It seems to me that the larger part of mission runners go for Amar or Caldari missions judging by their standings.
Is this a correct observation? If so, how come?

Edited by: Kexeo on 25/02/2009 13:19:13 Faction lewt and agent availability I guess. Caldari have the "best" character built and great PvE missle boats while Amarr are awesome looking and doesn't use ammo...they also have an added plus of being great for PvP.

because most people start out caldari or amarr?
that and amarr is nicely located to buy and sell stuff to be moved to 0.0. so more people down there trading leads to more people to run missions. gallente space looks to have a lot of people in it too.
that and you are probably in amarr or caldari space so you are seeing amarr and/or caldari mission runners as running missions can lower your standings to other factions, amarr and caldari are allied against minmatar and gallente.

I am Gallente and am at the moment still residing in Gallente space. This is based on rechecking standings of people in server wide chat channels. (Also most people are starting out as Gallente or Caldari, Amarr doesn't seem to be so popular)
Let me rephrase my question: What do I base my choice of a faction on? Ship preference? Something else?
And add another: Is it possible to keep your options open (not ruin your faction standing beyond repair towards anyone) without going out of your way to do so "too much".

Caldari have the most hisec mission hubs IMO (also the busiest) so that was a factor for choosing Caldari for me. Faction lewt is only relevant if you can either use it or sell it well. Otherwise it's not a factor.

As long as you run missions for the faction your ship is from, you end up getting missions that favour your damage type i guess.

IMHO, base it on your personal preference. For the most part, Caldari missileboats have the most versatility when it comes to missioning, simply becaus it's very easy to tailor their ships to be effective against ANY rat. They shieldtank, so not so good for PvP (the midslots are needed for both EWAR modules AND shield-tanking modules - so as a general rule you set up Caldari ships for EITHER gank or tank, not both - and EWAR is pretty much useless for PvE/ratting). Least versatile in that regard is Amarr for PvE, though for PvP their raw damage and tank is a good advantage. Choice is yours - since you were wondering why people chose Caldari or Amarr, now you know :)

It's possible, though a LOT of work.
Since the factions are paired opposites (Amarr<->Minmatar, Gallente <-> Caldari), doing faction missions for one will cost you HALF the faction gained towards the other, as a general rule. The devs specifically balanced it so that it's impossible to have a "balanced" character to have equal faction beyond a certain point with all 4 factions - IIRC, the highest possible a "balanced" character can be is around +6.8 faction. It's possible to get your faction with ONE up around +10.0 - but the two "opposing" factions willl be in the toilet, with a lot of hard workk necessary to rais 'em back up, during which you lost that high positive faction.
It's a balancing game, but iit is indeed possible to have positive with all 4 factions - just not real high positive wiht all 4.
