Hello !
Here's the dylema:
I found myself a bit disapointed with my first char - i'm only less than 2 months old - I'm minmatar but I found myself in love with Gallente to start with, and I have 800k in gunnery when I love drone boats, and there, not only do I barely have 200k in drone skills, but low int and memory (even with learning skills at 3) so training drones takes a lot of time,
yesterday i created a new char, gallente, focused on drone skills. Was happy for the first 15 minutes, then I thought I literraly lost a lot of time,
so here I am asking for an advise I couldn't find myself: do you, experienced players, think it would be wiser to stick to the older char, or is it comon so start over ? I'm really clashed between the 2 options. started training cruiser 2 on the new char before leaving work and I'm now obsessed I might be just loosing my time
Of course I'm not asking for "the" answer, just some opinions which hopefully will make me comfortable with whatever option I'll stick with
thx in advance !

I wouldnt, to be very honest.
I too messed up with my attributes a bit, I have high mem + int, but low Perc+will. This means that yes, I have trained a lot of my drones skills on my gallente character, but actually.. I really want guns now that im flying Heavy Assault Cruisers. and soon im going to want to train up very long Spaceship Command skills for Tech2 battle ships. But I stuck with my character because the thing about eve is that you cant really 'gimp' your character, its very easy to switch career's or even training plans.
2 months worth of skilling up is indeed a lot of time wasted, and it wont be long before Apocrypha is out, when you will be able to re-map your attribute points anyway.
Several years on when im easily able to farm ISK to pay for my subscription I bought a second account, Minmatar.. just purly for gunnery and pvp. But I dont really spend a lot of time on that alt, I still stick with my main.

The worst thing you can do is wanting all kinds of toys at once. You will end up with a ton of skillpoints but again unable to really figure out which race / ships / style of combat you like best. every race has its perks (ok i agree gaylente is pretty skill intensive, minmatar newb in a rifter can do a lot of dmg from the getgo).
My advice : stick to one race, skill up it's strongest parts (minnie = guns, gal = drones, and so on) and specialize training. It might seem boring but will pay in the long run. Then you can start exploring other races having good base in other ones :)

After M10 you will be able to re-spec your attributes then you can cross train to your hearts content...
escpecially if you ahve trained up the learning skills already
though now do the skills for the attributes you have the best at even so I'd probably end up with more balanced Skills ....
I'm torn myself as to what to repec to as I know I'll be probably be training a mixture of skills... T2 ships need willpower T1 ships need perception ...

Your gunnery skills will not be wasted even if you want to fly gallante drone ships. The AC Myrmidon is a popular fit. Really at 1.7M SP you're just starting out, and it's very unlikely you'll have trained many skills that are completely useless for flying any gallante ship.

Stick with minmatar character, but train up drones so you can use AC Myrmidon. You don't really need gunnery skills for the dominix anyway and minmatar got some really fun ships.

Alternatively, play your minmatar or gallente character for now and wait for march 10.
Then start your new character and enjoy all the benefits of balanced attributes, 2 free attribute respecs and double speed training-time for the first 1.6 mil SP.
And while training that character you still have the ones you have now to play with untill your new character catches up with them and makes them obsolete. -----------------------------------------------

Yeah, and start with 50k SP...

I guess I just panicked in front of the "9d 14h" for drones 5 - but I better get used to it already,

I did the calculations on your 40days old character, assuming you started at 800k and now 1,7m.......... 950SP/hour!!! omg your brain is crappy!
Respect your attributes mate.

If you spend the next two weeks to buy a full +3 set that you can plug in your new character at day 1 it won't be so hard to play catch-up. -----------------------------------------------

Keep you first character, no point in loosing 2 months of SP. Anything you have trained so far will not go to waste, you will use it at some stage. Plug in a +3 set, get all learning skills to lvl 4 if you can afford to. When M10 comes just do an attribute reblance to what you need and play on from there.
For the reblance I would minimise charisma and even all others out. That will give you a nice balance. 12 month from now you can respec when you know more of what Eve has to offer. |

you might want to work on your learning skills a bit. that particular skill should not take you so long. Under 5 days for a rank 1 level 5 would be something to aim for, for you. and oh, if u havent start investing in some attribute implants =)

make a new one if you dont like your first one. I did, after almost 8 months of training.
But Jebus christ man train those learning skills in the beginning. Cant even begin to imagine how much they mean. Lvl 3 is def not enough. Basic 5 adv 4 is my advice.

Train up skills in-line with your attributes now.
(High perception and willpower = spaceship command / weaponry).
When patch comes in, once you have made enough of these skills, change attributes other to more balanced, or memory/ intelligence base, for drones and defences.
