I know that this makes eve unique and different from other mmorpgs. I personaly hate the fact that after a month cycle ( a little simplified view ) of long long hours spended on boring isk earning comes a PVP in which you use a ship you earned for and after a while loose it and farm again. So after a month like this the only thing that stays are the SP, which will be exactly the same even if you weren't doing anything.
I would like to see something that stays after your work and is dependant on the amount of work you've done, because if you earn isks for a ship and later loose it, you are at 0 again.
Don't know what the solution should be, thats why i am starting this discusion. (Simle solution that really isn't acceptable by allmost every eve player is some kind of leveling, which would probably destroy eves unique)
Or is it only me that often gets tired of earning, losing ship cycle always getting back to 0?

Rule number 1 in PvP (in my opinion): Never undock in anything that you can't afford to lose.
If you grind for a month and get 1 bill isk, you don't buy yourself a faction fitted golem to lose all your isk when you lose it. You buy yourself instead 10 ravens and have fun in pvp for at least 2 months.

Yes, but the point stays the same. Farm a loooot, just to loose it everything in the end, no progress, just independent sp.

Thats EVE!
I'll tell you what you DO get, and thats the newbie frigate.
Same old adage in this case - Don't fly what you can't afford to lose.
If you can afford to lose it, insure it to mimimalise your losses.

I see what you're saying Cucac, and I agree. It has nothing to do with 'don't fly what you can't afford to lose'. I think it would be a great stimulus to getting people out there if there was something they where building on other than their skillpoints. Something you could only gain (and not lose) by going into combat against other players would be nice.

The problem I have with PVP isn't the fact that I'm losing my ship. It's the fact that it can take literally hours of game time to physically replace it.
I've reached the point were I have literally stockpiled 10 of the same ship, and its required fittings. That way I don't have to fly all over the damn place getting components again.
Currently, I find the run of the mill PVP too slow for the common player. There are hours upon hours where you simply can't fight for one reason or another.
Solutions? I have none. I'm not even sure it's really a problem. I hate it though. It prevents people from getting in on the action.

You only lose everything if you are very very stupid mate. Once you know what you're doing you will even start gaining from the kills you'll have. Ravens (and other t1 ships) are fully insurable and atm you get 20 mill more from the insurance then you need to pay for it. So if you have 1 bill isk you can make that last very very long.
Then there is always the other PvP factor of Eve, where corp/alliance mates that do manufacturing can provide you with cheap ships and fittings. You can always use 1/2 of your isk to do some trading on the market and make it grow (doesn't take much skilling at all).
There are countless ways of making your stuff last mate. But as you stated already, Eve is built this way, very close to how it would be in RL.
If you want PvP without losses, try the test server for a month. You can buy everything there for peanuts. You will see that without the loss, PvP gets incredibly boring, since you don't give a damn about surviving.

I am not talking abou loosing everything. ( even in i have 100 bil reserve in wallet ) The point is the cycle of earning and eventualy loosing the isk you've earned ( that day/week/month... ) and getting practicaly nowhere, progress is 0.
Little off example are leveling mmorpgs where if you after week of farming die and completely loose everything or at least money you farmed the last week, you've progressed , you've gained lvls, you are stronger. ( same here with sp, but you gain sp no matter what ) That was just an example to explain my point, so plz keep posts like go play wow.

Mate, if you feel like you gain nothing from PvP, then maybe you should keep yourself to something else. (not trying to troll you)
I myself feel that I gain a lot. Eve's PvP mechanics is soooo complex. Even now that I've played this game for over 3 years, I'm still learning new stuff every day. How many times haven't you said "That's a mistake I'll never do again."?
You're right, isk goes up and down all the time, SP keep ticking no matter what you do, but the game experience stays with you. When you're facing a 1 year old char you never know if he's a complete noob that has just come out of his lvl 4 mission or just a hardarse PvPer from hell. Only your experience will then win that fight. No sp, nor isk ;)

Yes of course, you gain experience from pvp and it's fun and main reason for the game itself. (I am already paying subscription to have fun, why pay again by hours of farming, but that's other topic) But there are lot of ppl out there including me, that enjoy also the rpg stuff of progressing further as a char and have fun and good feeling when they do. ( leveling and collecting never loose items in other games, which isn't the sollution for eve )

read the latest dev blog; though i do enjoy PvP, i think the new mission arcs are going to add a lot to the RPG feeling of eve

I believe that the Epic Arc in Apocrypha will sport something like that.

The OP is missing the spirit of Eve. Eve isn't meant to be a carebear fest where you stockpile gold or isk until your heart's desire. There are real consequences in death in Eve. You loose something that you literally earned, in one way or another. I don't know any other game that is like that. It's what makes Eve exciting, and PVP is more thrilling because of it. If you are bored with PVP because it takes hours...then find a new corp that doesn't just camp gates. Do offensive runs, get in low-sec or null-sec and battle for some sovereignty. ------------------------------------
