This thread is for all the testers who experience an eve crash after the splash screen.
It seems like alot of people is having this problem now. No mention has been given in the multiple "known issues" threads, and there is possible a lot of players who thinks it is a local problem - however it would seem that it is not.
Most of the players now crashing, were able to run the first 2 releases of Apocrypha, and all seems to be running eve fine with premium content, which would suggest that its not a problem hitting only players with gfx-cards that doesn¦t support SM2.
If you experience the crash after splash, make sure to:
- Bug report with every new patch. With logserver logs
- supply atleast the DXdiag info
- Attach a mini dump
Mini dumps can be forced by using the switch \eve.exe" /end /server:87.237.38.50 /minidump in a shortcut to eve.exe
The dump will then land in your eve folder on Windows XP, or in the cache folder on Vista (C:\Users\"Username"\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE
There is no indication that the crash can be manually fixed by the player. I have tried every possible combination of patching, LUA switch, resolution changes and driver updates.
My system atm is a Dual Core labtop with 4gig ram, and Intel 945 Express integrated gfx. The first two Apocrypha releases ran fine as does Eve Premium. |

This makes my 3rd update to where I crash at the splash screen. After each update I have updated my bug report with new logs. Less than 2 weeks before release and still cant log onto SISI for testing.

Edited by: Bacabachaui on 27/02/2009 00:44:39 Great idea! This will help us give CCP better bug reports so hopefully it gets addressed SoonÖ
First thing I want to add is that CCP asked me to zip the crashdump files for them to be able to use them. They sent me an email about my bug report, but this request was not completely obvious. I had to scroll down below the text I wrote in the report to see CCP comments asking for this. I recommend everyone who has submitted crashdump files to check their bug report to make sure there are no pending requests like that. It also might be a good idea to just zip them as practice from now on, but I canÆt speak for CCP obviously
Also, to describe my case (I have posted this in other threads but I'll post here too):
I have a Dell B130 laptop with 2GB of Ram and Intel Celeron M processor. I have an integrated Intel Mobile 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family "video cardö.
Classic runs beautifully. No lag (except huge fleet battles which this Care Bear rarely participates in). No problems. I even used to run 2 clients plus team speak on this rig (when I had 2 accounts).
As for Apocrypha testing, I could swear there have been 6 Apocrypha builds (the first 2 had enable scene 2 options, the 3rd it was removed?). The first build was borked but I could fly around and do stuff. However it actually made my computer just plain turn off after a disturbing click noise. The next 2 worked fine. The last 3 I get crash after splash.

i have the same issue also.
MY setup is An Acer Aspire Laptop, Dual Core, Integrated mobile Intel 945GM w/ 950GMA, 1 GIG RAM.
Classic Runs fine on TQ, Apocrypha ran fine for the first few builds, up untill 81170 - 81762 where i get the crash at splash screen error...
i have submitted a bug report w/ ziped minidump, log server, DXDiag, screeny of error msg and further details. linkage
It does seem like this issue is focused around (Lap Tops? with) Intel GFX cards.

The GMA 950 isn't an actual graphics card its your 'G'raphics 'M'edia 'A'ccelerator Graphics Processor - (GPU) that is 'integrated' into your motherboard.
"They rely on the computer's main memory for storage, which imposes a performance penalty as both the CPU and GPU have to access memory over the same bus."
just an FYI

We've been working on fixing a number of crash issues this week and most of the fixes should be on the latest Eve client on Singularity (currently running 6.10.82390). If you are still experiencing a crash after the splash screen appears, it would be a great help for Bug Hunters and devs alike if you can follow the instructions I quoted and create a bug report.
Thanks again for your help!

If your having trouble finding your mini dump file on Vista follow these steps:
click the vista start 'orb' -> in the search box type AppData and press enter-> when the window comes up click local -> CCP -> EVE.
you should then be able to see the mini dump file in that window.
I have writen this as the App Data folder is 'hidden' by default on vista OS systems.

ok this is stupid, as u know i've been getting the CTD @ splash screen error, well, after the latest update Apocrypha ran fine until i closed the game and then tried to boot it back up. Now i'm getting the same issue. i'm going to uninstall the whole thing, reinstall it all again and see what happens then, if it doesn't work i'll file a bug report.

well i downloaded a 2.3gig update, after which it the downloaded another 150mb patch. But it wouldnt execute the patch because "there is already an instance of eve running"
I noticed the patcher was still in the processes. so i force ended that. re-started the patcher.. it worked. But after it applied this smaller patch, it re-booted the client and said my installation was corrupt :(
im going to attempt a re-download of the test server.

could you please tell me how to do that. i know on vista the Cache is in the %AppData\local\ccp\eve% folder but which specific cache do i delete? theres three folders, look Which of these do i delete? and do i go into the actual folders and delete stuff... its a little confusing, i don't want to inadvertantly remove all my TQ cache, asi have allot of saved randomness in there.
So could i please have a bit of a walkthrough on how to delete the SiSi cache.

Each folder coresponds to an eve copy. You simply kill the folder that is coresponding to the right installation.
The folders that has the test server IP in them is obviously cache for sissi clients. It looks like you have 2 of them in seperate locations.
Thers nothing crucial for your client in them just stuff like BM folders, overview, and your client preferences, so dont be afraid to nuke the wrong one :) |

ok sweet, i've nuked both the SiSi folders. I've also just deleted my SiSi folder and i'm installing the Apocrypha client full install thing thats linked in these forums, then i'm going to patch in the one extra manual patch to update it to the current version (i can't use the update to the current version exe because it screws with my comp for osme wierd reason)
i'm going over the same steps i went over to get a working version of SiSi earlier on today, as i've had a wierd issue with SiSi not working after a client restart i've already mentioned.
I'll report back on how it went shortly.

After this latest patch, I got past the crash at splash and can now login. I was able to select my character and see inside of the station (although it looked bad) but then I had to logout and could not test anything. Hope to try later when I get home.

I can log back in again. I reapplied the patch again but that didnt do anything to help. Then I deleted the cache folder and still had problems. Now I deleted the cache and settings folders and now it worked again :)
This time I wont change any graphics settings, and hopefully it'll work all the time. Last time I changed the "high" settings to low and removed some effects.
Delete your cache and settings folder and it might work again for you to.
