As thought the market hasnÆt been crazy enough lately with the reactor exploit and BoB vanishing, a big patch is coming up and with it comes added volatility and thus opportunity for profit. Kwint Industries would accordingly like to have a little extra cash on hand. After all, thereÆs nothing quite like liquidity.
To that end, IÆm offering a 10B, 60-day bond. The rate will be paid along with the principle at the end of the bond, given this, no in-game shares will be issued. The rate will be set by Dutch Auction. The funds will be included with Kwint Industries operating capital and are fully insured by my name and assets.
Kwint Industries has held 30B in public capital via some rather old, in-game bonds paying 1.25% weekly. Those do not have a formal expiration date and will be in circulation until at least May, at which point I will re-evaluate. This bond is completely distinct from those. This bond is not transferable or resalable and ends 05/02/09.
How does a Dutch Auction work? Everyone bids the lowest interest rate they are willing to pay and the highest of the accepted bids is given to everyone. For example, the bids are: 2B @ 12.1% 5B @ 12% 4B @ 11.5% 4B@ 11.2% 3B @ 10.9% The lowest two get 3B and 4B at 11.5% and the guy who bid 11.5 gets 3B at 11.5%. The other guys donÆt get anything as their bids were not accepted.
Kwint Industries Dutch Auction:
- Total capital sought: 10B
- Increment: 100M
- Opening Rate: 14%
- Increment: .1%
- Auction Closing: 03/02/09 23:00 (EvE Time)
- Length: cash due 03/03/09, full pay out 05/02/09
To the moderators, dutch auctions of this sort belong in this forum and have been here for a very long time. Think of it as a debate about the minimum rate the market will accept for Kwint Industries' Bonds.

I'm reading that as 14% over the two months, so approx 7% a month, right?

Glad you clarified that. I thought it was 14% a month. :P My bid still stands, but hopefully knowing that it's only 7% a month will stop some fool from going "10b at 5%".

Yes, it's per 60 days.
In all honesty I wouldn't be surprised to see a legitimate 5% bid but we shall see. To be honest, this is partially an attempt to gauge the state of the market. I'd like to know just how low I could go with a longer-term fixed rate bond.

It should end up under 5% per month.
I would bid but seeing as my cost of capital is 4.8%, I won't make any money on this!

Nothing's wrong with 5%... monthly. 5% per 60 days though... I'd have some issues with that.

Just to satisfy my own curiosity, here's the bids so far (I'll keep it updated in case the OP doesn't):
Ricdic: 1B @ 0%(!) Raskor: 500M @ 8% Nick Turing: 500M @ 10% MilowFV: 1B @ 10% Namco: 1B @ 14% Frenden Dax: 1B @ 14% Nick Turing: 500M @ 14% --- Total: 5.5B @ 14% ---
I do quite like this method for setting the price for an offering, though I think it would be easier to track in a spreadsheet.

I like the concept of a dutch auction, but your example doesn't address a typical scenario.
Suppose it were to shake out like this. Also assume the bids were received in this same order: Player A, then B, ...
Player A offers 500m @ 10% Player B offers 5000m @ 10% Player C offers 1000m @ 9% Player D offers 8000m @ 8%
How would the funding be distributed?

I know how to bid, the bid I made was meant to cover all those that are not below 9%....
Call it lazyness if you will but since there is no list at the top of the thread I could not be bothered working out all other bids.
