In Colelie, a COSMOS missions system in Gallente's Sinq Laison Region, you can find many a player just passing through, and yet more trying to farm the COSMOS plex there. I have gone there to get gold tags, and to see if it was worth the time to "farm". It wasn't, but it was entertaining watching new players get popped by rats.
One intrepid fellow got the nerve to steal from a wreck, but I didn't want to blast him, but I wanted to teach him a lesson. Upon scramming him, I got so little DPS the natural shield recharge on my Navy Vexor was actually holding the shields for a bit. So I watched him squirm, answered a phone call, and came back to his ship in the state of a wreck. The rats had popped him. I looked at the wreck. Faction fit, fail fit, but faction fit. Someone had someone ISK from GTC's.
So I see another guy loot a wreck of mine a few days later. He has a low sec status, is a month old, and I tell him that is not a good idea. He locks me and moves in. So I show him it's not a good idea. I offer a ransom, and he say "20 million is all I have". I accept it and release him. He then does the best thing ever.
"I have this ship faction fit, I didn't want to lose it!"
Wildy flailing for the scram again I lock him down, and the screaming and yelling in local is so bewildering that upon his destruction I am wondering if he has some mini-titan in there. No such thing, but overall a faction fit ship.
The Kill
So sometimes you should pop noobs. Not the ones flying a tristan or imicus, and with nothing but **** on there ships, but the ones that think they are awesome for buying their ISK. It's well worth the time.

You miss the point. The guy said all he has is 20 mill, then admits he flies a faction fit ship.
Why wouldn't you blow up a faction fit ship? Guaranteed to fetch some juicy modules. Personally I never saw the point of a ransom, other than seeing if someone is going to pay you a tip for blowing them up. -------------------------------------------------- "Every complex problem has a solution which is easy, neat and wrong!" |

Yeah. This is an odd thread. Isn't it usually up to the victim to come to the forum and complain about a dishonored ransom? ------------------------------------------------- The world is a dangerous place for stupid people; their one advantage is strength in numbers. |

Edited by: Jack Coutu on 02/03/2009 17:32:20 the losses were fun, you are right. I would say a ransom is usually honored, in his case I gave it back, and in other cases I have always given a ransom to those I manage to take. I have gotten good at it, but alot of losses were me being stupid, which was fun anyways, or me thinking ransom was a good idea and finding out that it's tricky, then waiting to long since I thought it was honorable. This ransom was quick and done right. This however was an idiot noob who instead of paying me ransom and flying at least to a station, or away from me in general, tells me the ransom that I asked him to send was pennies compared to the worth of the ship. Most people, would blow him up far quicker than I did. Then they would keep the ransom. Eithier way, it was a lesson for him I hope. Fun as hell for me.
P.S I love PVP even if I get killed a lot, so if you think losing a few ships will make me real sad, and bringing it up will make my epeen cry, don't bother. I'll blow up Hulks if I find people that I have kill rights on in them. All pew pew to me.

Don't get me wrong, it's funny story, I just die a little inside anytime someone dishonors a ransom, regardless of circumstances. Of course, since you gave the money back, I'm deciding whether it constitutes a dishonored ransom. I'm leaning toward no.
Oh well, at least you got some good loot instead of blowing it up. ------------------------------------------------- The world is a dangerous place for stupid people; their one advantage is strength in numbers. |

I don't think that was a situation of dishonoring a ransom at all. He ransomed the guy and let him go, the guy spewing about faction fits in local caused a 2nd encounter seperate from the initial ransom and as such is subject to a 2nd ransom or destruction of ship.

I agree to a point. I mean the concept of ransom is one I adhere too, only because whenever it has been offered to me, I have had it honored as well. I'd like to see that trend continue, however I am aware it is rare. I really do think their is a certain level of reason though that you should get the HELL away when you make the payment and are released. I have always thought myself to be fun in defeat, some people are just plain bitter. In this case, bitterness led to stupidity and a loss of some nice things.
Nice things that I would never fly a ship into PVP situations with, but instead sold to finance more ships to lose. Fun times.

This nub got exactly what he deserved imho. If you have played the game long enough to know the difference between faction modules and regular ones and make the isk to buy them you deserve to loose them if you did something as stupid as loot someones wreck in front of them... FAIL This sounds more like some rich nub that bought a bunch of isk with cash and doesn't have a clue about the game mechanics yet.. BIGGER FAIL (buying virtual money with real money will never make sense to me... buy something real or spend it on getting laid for once or something other than pixels gawd!!)
