Probably not the most awe-inspiring suggestion or issue I'm bringing up here, but it seems to me that the description of the "Gallente > Gallente" I.E race and Bloodline is a bit fidgety in it's opening.
" The Gallenteans are originally of French origin, although any direct similarities have long since vanished. Gallenteans value freedom and individual liberty above all else. Being the only true democracy in the universe, the progressive Gallente Federation fosters enterprise and initiative in its citizens. Though they are often hampered by internal strife and petty self-interests, they have many times shown they can be much more flexible and decisive than most others when push comes to shove."
Originally of French origin, anyone?
It's a superflous addition that doesn't really fit as it simply repeats upon itself - why not simplify? - "Are originally descendants of the French"

Well, I think the whole gallentean description isn't that great in the first place. Just compare it to the Caldari one. Guess why some of the many Caldari players made their choice? Erratic Hippie or ruthless Industrialist/Militarist? Right.. hard choice. Too bad it isn't Woodstock Online

At several times in their history the French fielded the greatest armies the world had seen, but sadly your average person's knowledge of history only goes as far as what's within living memory. The reference to the French should actually be a badge of honour - no other nation I can think of have overthrown their government more than the French, and they wrote several treatises on combat that are still used to this day.

Good point there Cedric =P
Especially americans who call the french cowards are lovely - that's a historical conundrum in itself there.
Anyway though, I do believe I'm right, there's a silly little error in the description!

your fail english is fail? "originally of French origin" is perfectly fine yes its a logical loop and "originally of French descent" would be better english but "Are originally descendants of the French"? come on "were originally" maybe even dropping the "are" fine, but your now mixing tenses which is a worse affront to english than logical loops.

I see an issue with it from an RP perspective....were 10000 years in the future, mass distances from earth, with multiple systems colonized, and survived a horrid collapse of the infrastructure. the only thing i would be thinking is "What's France?" not that they are bad or cowards, but that after that length of time, and evolutionarily and historically, they would probably be more like, we are Gallentien in origin, all descendants of Eden since this is "New Eden".
Side note, not all Americans think the french are cowards, some recognise that there were internal reasons not to get involved in a fools war, and know enough about history to remember that the french came and saved our bacon in the revolutionary war. I don't think the French are cowards, just have enough issues at home to deal with.

The french had it all right. They surrendered to the invaders to save its people and land. After the war france was relatively unharmed and many many famous landmarks that probably would have been lost were not. Not to mention the art, etc.

You drop capital letters, screw punctuation altogether and fiddle over my english based on the way I form a sentence? Reasoning for using "are" is simply because they still exist, learn your times honey. If something was, or a plural were - that implies it or "they" as it were in plural, does no longer exist and is being referred to in past tense. Your part on "... of French descent" isn't off the mark though, that serves it's pupose. The only actual reason I made that line longer is that the descriptions seem to favor the theatricals.
Oh and PS. No, "Originally of French origin" is a mouthblabber, it might "work" but honestly? Why not just say "Were originally French" if you're going to use that few words. Repetitive use of the same word or expression in sentences is something writers all work off, simply because it looks silly. ( It's like if someone holds a presentation and keeps saying "so like..." between every sentence. It may not be strictly wrong, but it sounds silly. )

Well the french did lose world war two badly, and haven't really had a military to speak of since. It's not like the french think much of americans either. I know many japanese still dislike americans. I'd be interested to know what the english think of the french. Or what the germans think of the french.
And yes the description is redundant. Irregardless...

I believe there was a mass Exodus when the Eve Gate was discovered due to Overpopulation and Ressourceshortage. Again, after all this Time the different Heritages should have mixed up, noone should clearly know what it was like on Earth or the exact History "their" Nation had.
That's my Theory of Genes anyway.

If you wish I can type perfectly for speed I tend to ignore punctuation and grammer but as you wish.
Are is incorrect as we are talking about the gallente of the past. Consider perhaps "Once they were of French origin now however..." they still exist in the present time but they are no longer purely of French origin. It does not in any way infer, as you claim, they no longer exist just that in the past they came from a country called France but that is no longer applicable.
Interesting word by the way "mouthblabber", would it mean a mouth that blabs? However back to the point, "so like", "erm" and "uh" are called mental breaks they allow the user time to think about what they want to so next. They are avoided not because it sounds "silly" but because they make you sound like you don't know what your talking about. As I said "descent" would have been a better word as it flows better but dual origin based words in a sentance is fine just not how we'd do it if it were upto us.

I'm just not going to bother pursuing an argument about something so silly - my point is valid for one, you are right ( as I said ) in that "descent" works, but it doesn't necessarily work any better than rewriting the sentence. Repetition ( which is what we have here ) Is something you don't do once you learn how to write your first two-page essay, unless you score lower than anyone before you. Mouthblabber is not a word, it's just a "voiced likeness" of an expression by the way, but nevermind that.
Either way though, she came in with slight offense in her tone, but she still atleast carried an argument - can we revert this thread from somehow landing on the french to talking about whether this piece of a qoute should be corrected?
Ps. And yes, I agree really that there are no purist nationalists from the old age left ( afterall they reinvented themselves as a seperate people ) - So the origin is obviously not a firm one, but I suppose the french were hanging around these and those areas when the gate closed and they sort of naturally convened

Russia lost horribly in World War One too, a war in which the French were instrumental. That's a war that is still - just - in living memory, and should not be forgotten so readily. Did this defeat in a time of political turmoil tarnish their reputation as a modern power?
Come World War Two, the French lost (partly) because they were foolhardy and arrogant, not because they were incompetent. At the start of the second world war, the French fielded some of the finest tanks the world had ever seen; they had failed to learn the lessons of the first world war though, and fielded them in scattered numbers instead of in force as the Germans did.
However they built their Maginot Line along the border with Germany, and due to the Belgians declaring neutrality so late they lacked the time to build their "super forts", which if completed would have changed the outcome entirely, forcing ****** to look East initially instead of West. There was no way the Blitzkreig could have succeeded against a full length Maginot Line.
Similarly, one must remember that it was France and Britain that declared war on Germany. This meant that French soldiers (and the BEF) were stationed on the western front before German troops were there. Their failure to capitalise on this - something that only their generals can be blamed for, as they could've walked into the Ruhr at that point in time - was in part what lead to their downfall. Instead, those soldiers spent months living in trenches with no activity, getting tired and frustrated. When the battles finally came, they were already half defeated by time and fatigue.
This is all aside from the socio-political environment in France (and in Europe for that matter), where dissent, fear and division ruled. The country was in turmoil, and their relative performance in the early part of the war - and in many ways, the formation of the Vichy government during occupation - are a representation of this. Fascism and Socialism were literally head-to-head at this point in history, and it was anyone's guess which way it would go. I can only imagine how frightening such a time must have been to live in; it certainly puts our modern fears of "terrorism" utterly to shame.
As for the French hating America, that's rubbish. The French - like most Europeans - detest the stereotypical American and deplore some aspects of US historical foreign policy. Again this is somewhere a history lesson needs learned; which nation was on the side of the Americans during your War of Independence? The French. Which nation gave you one of your most potent symbols - the Statue of Liberty? Oui Monsieur, c'est le Frantais! As for the French military - wow. They have one of the largest nuclear arsenals on the planet, a strong army, navy and air force, and one of the best special operations wings on the planet. The French are not to be trifled with, despite the common jokes about their cowardice.
As for the French, English and German relations, some further study into the multidude of wars that have befouled our little continent is required, and I'm frankly all typed out. Suffice to say there's rivalry between them all. ---

Quote: I had several people ask me how life in the colonies was.
Wait, what? America isn't our colony anymore? This will be dealt with...
I can understand this probably comes across badly, but in 99% of cases it's intended as self deprecating humour rather than intended as an insult: After all, it was British idiocy of the first class that forced the colonial inhabitants to rebel. As the saying goes, No Taxation Without Representation - if the british government had reformed along the lines demanded by the colonists, who knows what kind of world we'd be living in now.
This is however getting seriously off topic; the bottom line is that arguing over the choice of wording in a description that you'll only really look at once (when you create your character) is bordering on petty.

I have to agree with the OP. I cannot see the Gallente being related to the French with that heritage. I think the French more resemble the Minmatar due to the split of part of their race staying with the Ammatar.
The Gallente have gone in and won battles. When did the French win a battle? I believe their last military victory was back when Rome was an empire. Though they do got the I surrender part down better than any other country. No offense.
