Anyone who has a native currency of Euro or US Dollars haven't noticed any difference but us poor saps living in the UK have to pay in Euro because CCP won't support our currency directly. This means that the cost of our play fluctuates with the exchange rates and at the moment UK players are finding a quarterly subscription is costing ú37 a quarter where as a year ago it was about ú26. Even GTC's in USD arent much better as the exchange rates from GBP to USD or Euro are both appauling at the moment. Is it just me thats feeling the pinch or do other UK players think the same? I used to run three accounts but have had to now drop this to one because of the increased costs. Why can't/won't CCP set a price point for GBP and take payment directly in that currency as there is a very large number of UK subscribers?

no honestly what is minimum wage?
Because if it's 8 an hour, than we are paying the same. If they lowered it due to exchange rate I would whine that americans had to pay more to play eve because our time is apparently worth less than yours.

not to detract from the validity of your point, you can get a paypal account and buy GTC's from (say) shattered crystal so that you're paying in USD

And for 2 years, right up to 3 months ago, we were paying much less than others in the UK for EVE,due to the good exchange rate. Swings in round-abouts
hint : GTCs are now the more expensive way to play EVE in the UK ====================

If they do let us pay in GBP then they'll probably set the subscirption at ú15.
So, yeah, keep the euros imo. |

Current NMW rates
There are different levels of NMW, which depend on your age. The rates from 1 October 2008 are:
* adults (which means people aged 22 and over) receive the full rate of ú5.73 an hour * workers aged 18 to 21 inclusive, receive a rate of ú4.77 an hour (often known as the developmental rate) * young people receive ú3.53 an hour (often known as the youth rate)
I personally get ú6.00 an hour, go me and my high flying career. :-|
Personally I damn well wish we would just join the euro currency.
We're already getting pretty much all the disadvantages we could possibly have being part of europe, why our government won't give us one advantage of their currency I don't know.

This + the numbers you mentioned = does not compute. You should be able to use 2 accounts for less money than you first had to pay for 3 accounts.

"For the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place; 4 and to them he said, `You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went. 5 Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing; and he said to them, `Why do you stand here idle all day?' 7 They said to him, `Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, `You go into the vineyard too.' 8 And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, `Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.' 9 And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. 10 Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received a denarius. 11 And on receiving it they grumbled at the householder, 12 saying, `These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.' 13 But he replied to one of them, `Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius? 14 Take what belongs to you, and go; I choose to give to this last as I give to you. 15 Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?'"

If you have to take a second job to pay for eve, your priorities are out of whack.
I have a bunch of accounts, for various purposes, but in the end, I have a good job and a stable home life, and can afford it. If anything I was doing in eve was decreasing my enjoyment of real life, Eve would be the first thing to go. I have met a lot of great people over the years in Eve, and been a part of some great things, but in the end, this is a game, and none of it is more important than the real life friendships and relationships that I have.
I just got back from a friends' house where we have a weekly poker game. Maybe I had eve-related stuff to do, but the day I can't put eve on hold to hang out with my friends is the day it's become too important in my life.
If you need your 2nd job to survive, because your hours or wages have been cut due to the economy, I feel for you. But if you're taking on a 2nd job to pay the extra GBP30 per month, please. did the calculation, and that saves u BIG amount of $$$.

I've never noticed paying for EVE. I just bundle it into my ú100 of Utilities I usually pay.
EVE cost me ú13-ish last month (monthly sub) which is 50 pence more than what it cost me last year.
I'm not exactly feeling the damage just yet.

i know where alot of people are coming from, with the currency exchange rates like they are at, but, buying 60 days at a time works out to be ú26 ish, thats ú13 per month, with is only up ú1.50 since 2006 prices, so, for 50p per yeah increase, ive had a much better time on eve
yes, id love it if i could pay with a better currency than my hard earned ú, i too am a student, but i dont go out getting drunk every night as most others, id rather have a few good drinks once in a while with mates, and then play eve
and oh, my mates play eve, so its a win win

Edited by: Stitcher on 04/03/2009 10:34:43 Oh come off it, are you seriously suggesting that CCP should start subsidizing people to buy their own product?
because that's effectively what you're suggesting here. They'll already be having trouble considering the present value of their own native currency, and you want them to set up a fixed rate in GBP rather than accept that we're going to have to put up with fluctuating subsciption fees?
Besides, you have no guarantee that the price they set wouldn't work out worse than the one we're already paying, market conditions or no. - Verin "Stitcher" Hakatain. |

All those 'crazy rules' we hear about in Britain are all rubbish. That straight banana thing was made up by Richard 'you couldn't make it up' Littlejohn. Further 'crazy rules' were created by the tabloids in general to further this idea that Europe is full of lunatics and bizarre laws in order to justify their own xenophobia.
The main reason we have remained out of Europe is because of the labour laws, which limit how much overtime people can work, increase the minimum wage, and offer more benefits to the average employee. Obviously, none of the big companies like the idea of this, so they 'fly the flag' in order to convince people to stay out. The newspapers fall into this category as well, as they have not got a sterling history in how they treat their employees, if you remember this.
Ever since this whole Europe debate started, I have seen very little in real evidence for an argument to stay out of the Euro, beyond the fact that the currency has got a crap, unimaginative name.
And keep the British pound? Sorry, mate, but the Italians invented that. The Romans introduced the 'spond', as it was known then, to British culture. Like most things prevalant in our country, we have assimilated it from other cultures.

how's this for an argument then: ever since the whole euro debate started, the pound has been very strong against the Euro. Even now, the pound is still stronger than the Euro, even if it's not quite as dominant as it was this time last year.
We join the Euro, and every briton in the country suddenly loses access to our own strong currency, and instead has to start working on one that averages our country's productiveness with that of the rest of the continent, communism stylee.
Sure, the driving force behind that desire are corporations which stand to benefit from exchange rates, but it would have a knock-on effect for the man on the street as well. |

True, the pound has enjoyed periods of strength, but it has also suffered periods of weakness that wouldn't have happened if we were in Europe. Remember the European Exchange Rate mechanism that we pulled out of in the 90's, practically bankrupting the entire country?
Periodic fluctuations in local currency isn't really a strong justification, as that strenth would have balanced out by opposing forces in the Euro. A strong pound means people are reluctant to buy our exports, which weakens our position. If we had been in Europe at the time, our currency wouldn't have been as strong, but we would have been exporting more to the continent.
The world economy does naturally balance itself out, and every negative trend has a positive side, although you may not immediately see it. Even with the 'credit crunch', this is the world economy balancing itself out for all the years of stupid business decisions. The crunch will kill businesses, but this will open up opportunities to new companies, who will grow. Some 'destruction' has to occur to promote change.
Do you honestly think things would have been completely different if we were in the Euro? How much impact would it have really had on your life?
My parents generation had similar fears about decimalisation, and even now my mother thinks the government robbed the country of 40p out of every pound. After all these years, she still doesn't believe that 1p in new money equals 1.4p of old money. It's just beyond her comprehension.
We've changed our currency before, and it didn't cause the end of civilisation, and it wouldn't if we did it again. |
