Why is it, that there is no systems where space is dotted only by stars, instead of those horrible nebulae anywhere? They have long since lost their beauty, not that I find them particulary attractive in the first place, I mean, I've seen sectors of space where they are beautiful, but never mind, why do I have to invest in thick curtains or a room without windows, its expensive just to get a little darkness around you..
A shame I cant kick the people who were so addicted with these horrid things, that they would only colonize a system having them, awful I say, so, where do I find a place that does not have a nebulae lighting up the night sky?

a reason i can see - if u have only black with stars - have u ever tried seeing anything? if ur not using scanner, its pretty impossible to see roids.
but i do think the systems would look nice with only stars

Well, thats why you have that camera following you everywhere, looking directly at your ship, pod, whatever you chose to look at..
Anyhow, what jerk got away with the poor quality of these backdrops?

Or how about dark nebulas, just ones where there is less light, force a player to use his ships scanner to navigate more than his cameras. Would increase fun I think. Maybe have little lights on your ships...
But that might be too far
Just a non-nebulae background would do

Never really thought about this hehe.. i think CCP has been watching a lot of Star Trek though, theres always Nebulae in Star Trek wherever they stop . I dont find them annoying though, since i feel that they add to the atmosphere of a system... but a few dark systems would be cool i think

Funny thing is. Most solarsystems in EVE it looks like you are in the middle of a planetary nebulae. And in the middle of a real planetary nebulae it is usually nothing more than a dead star devoid of any actual planets anymore. So it's kind of silly.
I think CCP needs a vacation. They should all be forced to play Freelancer for a week.
Although EVE blows away Freelancer graphics when it comes to proper scaling, Freelancer has way better background graphics. And the graphics while you are within nebulae is phenomenal using fog technology.
The greatest thing about Freelancer graphics though, if you see an orange nebulae far off in the distance. If you keep heading in that direction, soon you will find yourself in an area of space completely engulfed in orange fog.
Doubt this will ever happen in EVE..

Have none of you guys played X2? you've really missed something then, backdrops are for the most part unique and very realistic looking, without being in your eyes constantly, they appear as though they are far away and not close up, sure EVE could'nt possibly have a unique backdrop for each and every system, but surely, a bit of consistency, say a constellation has very similar backdrops, but shifts slowly towards another towards the edges, but I'd say redo the backdrops in EVE, the impact of a well balanced background will be an overall better game, people will enjoy flying through it, especially if there is something new to discover as well.

AGREE; the quality of them are so low i should be banned by now =) Also the actual structure of them needs to be changed, i say add a random transparency modifier to them so some systems get only like 10% visibility on em, that way some systems are nearly black but still some traces of crap God i gotta change my sig..

Not shure if I'm completely right here, but aren't the black sky's dotted with stars that we used to see on earth (pritty hard to see these days), isn't the background black yust becouse the atmosphere is hiding the fainter light from the nebula stuff? ok, in eve, those background nebula's are extremely bright... but I think that even in RL, there are mostly nebula's in view when the closeby atmosphere/station/star/dirty window isn't hiding the weaker stuff...
