I'm using a Dominix tanked with 3AH Thermal 2AH Kinetic, 1 DCU II and a Large Repper.
Is it possible to beat this mission without multiple warping in and out? So far I can only kill a single cruiser per trip, from full health. Targeting the frigates that aggro drones is hard, takes almost as much time as killing a cruiser in some cases. Advice?

I would suppose that the Dominix, like all Gallente ships, has a huge gaping Explosive-resist hole, right? You need to devote one or two hardeners to plug that hole or the smaller ships in that mission will rip you a new one…
Yes, the survival guide states "heavy kinetic/thermal" but that's just going by the assorted missiles Zor & co. are throwing at you, all of which produce some big nasty numbers and explosions on the screen. However, just about all the gunfire is explosive and if you have 0 resist to begin with, it will hurt you… a lot…
…or just do what I do: get a smaller ship, warp in at a distance, and run away until your drones have nuked the battleships. Then turn back and omnomnom the small stuff. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in =v=… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Edited by: Lucius Paulus on 09/03/2009 06:13:27 Good stuff thanks. I just beat it. I stuck with the Dominix but staying at long range was a huge boon. I lost a lot of drones because the frigates were too far to target but wised up after losing 8 or so tech II drones that the tech I drones might be better for this mission :) Losing them is not a big deal.

Yep, this is one of those missions where gank setups either laugh or cry. I remember finding this missions really hard, then one day finding it really easy. It's mostly about taking out the hard hitters fast (I'm not a drone boat user so I'm not sure how tricky that would be for you) but Zor and the cruisers seem to be the major dps here, with the bs being much easier to tank.
Only advice I can think of would be warp in at range, let the frigs reach you and lock on, then use your drones to nail them and pull them in quickly before the support gets stuck in, then let loose everything you have. That said, I'm not a drone person. Drones to me are a 'okay, every npc has spawned and hates me, woot, extra dps' or 'oh, I've killed everything except these last 20 frigates, go mop them up would you lads?'. Yea, I'd suck as a Gallente lol

I always omnitank my CNR against mercenaries and drones. Usually I have all resists around (or close to) 80% and my DPS is over 600. It makes this - and in fact every mercenary mission very easy.

Edited by: Thynar on 09/03/2009 11:59:46 I found a blaster Hyperion (guessing Mega would work just as well) to be faster than a Dominix here. One of each explosive, thermal and kinetic hardeners, one LAR and a webifier + tracking computer (tracking script) in mids. Land on top of them, melt the battleships (3-4 volleys at <10km orbit with my average skills) first as they orbit at close range and let the drones mop up the rest. Goes pretty fast as well.
Edit: Disregard all that - was thinking of Damsel in Distress /blush

That mission is tricky for a Dominix pilot until you crack it. My setup involves a faction LAR, 2 Explosive, 1 Kinetic, and 1 Thermal Hardener.
As other posters commented, warp at range - I warp at 100. Then note the position of the target structure and start moving away from it while killing enemies as they come in range. Take care of explosive-damaging ships first. It shouldn't be too hard because they'll be pretty far from you.
Once you get within 150 km of the target structure, clean up the rest, warp to it and destroy it to complete the mission. Alternatively, you can warp to it if aggro becomes unbearable to give you some more distance from enemies.
There are some frigs that tend to stick to that structure and they don't auto-aggro you, but they'll go after your drones fast. If you notice them approaching, withdraw your drones and wait until they warp back to their original location.

the eve-info site:

it appears to still be correct, except for the wildcard named cruiser. info on the cruisers:

on domi i run cap-boosted dual lar with 2 therm., 1 kin. hardener, eanm2 and dcu2. warp in at 30 and drop sentries, sit there and tank the mission w/out moving. a 30km nos helps cap and the second rep is just pulsed when needed.
you need to deal damage fast to get dps down in this mission especially if you try to run a single rep. travel time for heavy drones & the pain in the ass aggro of the webbers makes sentries an ideal choice.
to the other poster yes a mega works very well on this mission esp. with 4 garde2's deployed.

For me is this mission very easy and fast with my Abaddon
warp in to 70 km and almost noone get close to me alive (usually 1 BS). i have faction (amarr navy) repper, 2 kinetic AH, 1 therm AH.
But my target range is about 88km and i can hit at this range without problem. In order to minimalize incomming dmg take down first Assassins (cruisers) and avoid close range combat, they all have heavy close range dps.

But yer, I just went in, stood my ground an slugged it out. lost about 10 T1 drones in total (Load up heavy on Hobgoblin I's)

Domi, warp in at 100, use sentry drones to take out the four drone-killing frigates. Stick sentries on Zor until you need to warp out, bookmark your location, warp out away from the HQ, then warp back in to your bookmark at some distance. Wash, rinse, repeat.

This is one of those missions where your tactics become quite important.
You don't say if you have a tec1 or tec2 tank. Certainly you need to be looking at a tec2 tank & perhaps initially dual reps until your skills are quite high.
I find the mission very easy in a Dominix but have quite high skill points in Drones & Battleship 5 which really helps with the Dominix. I just drop tec2 Wardens and they kill everything at range then take out everything else with Ogre or Hammerheads. Use sentry drones if possible to get on the drone killing frigates.
As in all missions aggro control is very important and this mission is no exception but read the mission survival guides as when you do this one once or twice it becomes strangely easy.
Not wishing to judge but if you are having to warp out a number of times then either your fit is wrong or your skills are lacking as you really need in the order of 12 million skill points with the Dominix to begin to get the best from it. The Dominix is the one ship where the SP investment in drones, tank & battleship really does matter. It is a friendly ship for new players by virtue of its sheer tank & drone capability but sadly friendly does not mean low skilled.

QFT, easy with above setup (slightly modded my with an AB). Just keep an eye out for the 4 frigs that don't auto-aggro as they will aggro your drones.
