Anyone thought of taking the time to actually write up a quick, "welcome to EVE this is what you need to know before you start acting like a smacktard and bothering everyone" type deal for the influx of noobs coming in with the box set?
I know there are several in existence, but most of them are out of date. And remember, they will start with the .5 faction standing and will want to jump right into Faction Warfare, someone might want to think of a FW For Noobs guide.

There are other skills besides learning that you can train in the first week you play.

Better yet: don't read the title. In fact, ignore any contract you haven't found through the "exact match" search. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in =v=… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

If someone comes into your mission area, takes stuff from your wreak you need to shoot them. It is, after all, your stuff. You shot that NPC so the contents of that wreak and the salvage is yours. After all it is more then likely just a small ship taking your stuff, it aint like he will come back and hurt you if you blow up his ship.
Remember: 1. Your stuff 2. Your mission area 3. Red blinky means you can shoot it 4. Your stuff
Has a final piece of advise -- It's just a game, it is just pixels on a screen, don't take anything personal in this game (your blood pressure will thank you).

Never press the red button.
I tried some time ago but Eve gets nerfs so often that even the most basic of how-to's soon becomes outdated. Anything beyond what you get in the tutorial is pointless since it involves fittings and 'best ways to avoid...' which often don't apply once the mod has been nerfed.
You also have to take into consideration the profession the player wants to aim for. That means wrting several, each biased toward almost every conceivable profession in Eve. Not a task that I'd expect anyone to willingly commit to.

What I am about to write has nothing to do with the game but I found it very funny at the time.
When I first started working at my place of employment (many many years ago) we had an ex-admiral (USN) has the head of our little section (think he was just there to get us work with the Navy because he tended to sleep in his office during the day with the door open). We had just installed a Big Red Button at the entrance to the computer lab to cut off power in case something very very bad happened. The Admiral was doing a walk through of the building and he saw the Big Red Button. The story I heard was he said "What's this do" and before anyone could stop him he hit it, and power goes down hard.
The next day a plastic cover that had to be lifted for the button to be hit was placed over the Big Red Button.

There were lots of posts like this on the Steam forums when the game first went up there. I'm sure there'll be some "Things you need to understand before playing Eve" posts here also.
I'm sure the tutorial and Evelopedia will help newbies with game mechanics and the like, but maybe we should help with common-sense guidelines, like the Golden Rule of Eve: "Don't undock with anything you can't afford to lose".
