However, stupid lottery sites like yours disgust me even more then the Jehovah's do.

Fascinating. I guess it had to happen eventually. You could say it's an analog attempt at controlling a digital world. It's hard for us to bear in mind the vast majority of people "online" use it to check e-mails and look at pictures of their grandkids, cousin's dogs, uncle's new car. The shopping aspect is rather limited as well, in comparison to how (for instance) integrated into our EVE experience the web browser has become - including all those third party sites we use as utensils.
To expect legislators to understand the depth of intricacy we're involved in, and the ease with which we wish to navigate through our virtual world might be...too much for the sorts of people we've been electing lately. Think about it. Do we want the guy in the flashy suit in there...fine capped teeth and a Rolex, or someone who understands the world he/she is living in today? This sort of debacle with cookies isn't the only arena where the present mentality is showing itself as so far out of touch as to be useless.
Yes, I signed the petition. I'm a rabid American hound dog, but I'm heavy-duty into the "world-wide" part of www. I suggest everyone sign it as well in solidarity with our distant cousins. HOWEVER (big however here), don't let it stop there. The power is in the poll. Make your VOTE count. EXPECT these candidates to KNOW WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON in the world around them. Set a new standard. Analog won't do in a digital world. We need new blood in the state houses.
Get on board. Vote early, (and often.) Take government from these antiques and put it in the hands of people who at least know what time it is.

I'm no internet guru.. but how is this bad if you just have to have thier consent now?? like, if it wasnt hurting them why would they deny.. or were you actually hurting them but pretending you werent selling thier information without thier knowledge?
as long as they consent to use the cookies.. business stays good? or no?
like I said, no internets guru here I dont even know wtf a cookie is really other then what I occasionnaly gain as a prize |

You have an option in your browser to not accept cookies, or to ask permission for each one. Try setting it to permission for a day and see where that gets you.

i have 8 cookies in total and they had to ask, privacy settings at max does that..
Cookies, all well and good, but open to abuse to those who know how to use em and those that are ignorant get used and abused..

The majority of internet users this affects is minimal at best, but it's pretty simple to avoid it.
1) State in small text that the website will check and use cookies.
2) Have web browser developers develop a string that auto accepts the use of cookies (and is written and mentioned in the ToS agreement, the one you're supposed to read before using the program).
3) Have websites that develop plugins (facebook "like" buttons) describe the purpose in their ToS.
And it's now perfectly legal. You read it all and accepted it (hopefully), so there should be no qualms. It's not illegal if you agreed to it, and the way ToS legalese is written specifically covers this type of legislation.
TL;DR: The law is badly written, but the proper legalese can loop hole it no problem. |
