First of all, we do appreciate the fact you have this reduced volume forum while the server is down. We also do appreciate the fact the bulk of the patch "volume" is available before server actually goes up. However, the METHOD of patch distribution is... not really optimal.
First off, your entire file-serving needs are on the Limelight Network (sp?), which normally perforsm admirably, but in times like this one, it is obvious it becomes overloaded and can't properly cope with people's bandwidth availability. I'm not saying we can't download the patch, I'm saying we're not downloading it as fast as we could. There might be a minority that can't download the patch properly (download managers causing trouble because they can't resume downloading, patcher not resuming download either but starting from zero, insanely slow internet speeds or whatnot), but I'm not talking about them.
So the question is : why not also have an official TORRENT for the patch ? It couldn't hurt to have an OFFICIAL torrent of the patch up, it doesn't even have to be from some high-bandwidth machine at all, I mean, that was the whole point of bittorrent in the first place, you don't need a big bandwidth to distribute the same (large) file to many people in a short amount of time safely even if people have slight connection problems.
Yes, I am aware some people already put up unofficial torrents of the patch, but it's just not the same.

While I trust eve-files most of the time, like I already said in the OP, having a torrent up by some benevolent PLAYER on a PLAYER site is just not the same as an OFFICIAL torrent by a CCP member.

Edited by: Korcahn on 10/03/2009 14:08:36 A torrent would make sense, but due to the nature of torrents, it would be very slow, unless people were seeding after they had it downloaded.
And I can't explain why, but my connection slows to a crawl when my torrent client is running and I connect to EVE. (browser works fine, its only EVE that slows.)
OFFTOPIC: Forum admins - maybe you wouldn't have to lock so darn many threads if the appropriate forums were up??
I was looking for a post to talk about the backstory stuff going up about the events on Seyllin , but it seems this is the only forum right now :( ___________________________________

I downloaded the patches with less then an hour(about 450-500kbps), so I do not see a problem but the torrent idea is not bad at all. I would seed it.
