I am getting mixed reports, as usual, about whether shares are a good idea or not.
Has anyone out there been scammed or has anyone ever made any ISK?

In a game with hundreds of thousands of subsribers, I would be wary of anything that's been included in the game for a long period of time, seems easy, but that you can't find much information on. There's probably a good reason it's not a popular subject with a wealth of available information.

My good friend and CEO of the executor corp of my alliance held majority of shares, went to the hospital for 2 days (told his corp). he came back to being kicked out of his corp cause someone idiot over threw him knowing he was gone cause he wasn't there to vote... I hate shares now.

Shares are mostly scams, almost noone uses them for anything legit, because of problems when players go inactive holding shares.
The exceptions are usually goon led share IPOs.
Send me a billion isk and I'll get you in on the ground floor of an awesome IPO opportunity. Ignore everyone else, they are trying to scam you.

You should ask whether anyone has NOT been scammed on shares.
My experience with shares is simple:
- If you own 51% you own everything.
- If you own less than 51% you own nothing.
There simply are not enough checks on Corp management to make it scam-proof. Therefore all that exists are scams.

This would be better discussed on the market discussion forum IMO. As for my experience I sank a few hundred mil into shares a while back that I aquire from RESX, join the chan' ingame for more details. Most of the stock sold threw RESX has been around for a while and only stays on the list if it is active and paying dividends. Good shares to start with I would say EMFI, Eve Mutual Fund Invesment Inc or something like that. I bought my initial shares at 10k per share and a few months liquidated for 14k and made an easy almost 200m profit. Just read the MD forums and do your research firest and you should be fine.

You can use them for pvp loot payout. Ive seen that work before. FC and trust members loot all the wrecks from an op. Logistic alts drag it to empire and sell it, corp pays out isk to members based on thier pvp activity via shares. Problem lies in members leaving with shares, I dont think you can take em back. Either way if it makes money for you while you dont play, and another player is doing this for you, its 99% of the time a scam, unless you know the dude/chica in real life, and can beat the holy crap out of them for it.

i pumped about 150+ into shares on the market exchange, and i've made at least double of that back, albeit over a period of a year+

I made about ú2000 on RBS shares, when they dropped to 10.5p a share, and i sold them at 31p a share when they peaked the other week. Also made a bit when Barclays were trading at 70p a share, rising to 126p a share -glad i sold them, as they've dropped to 66p this morning.

If the CEO holds 50%+1 share, you can use the rest for things in your corp. If as mentioned above people become inactive, just open a seperate corp and issue shares from that to people, and use it to handle payouts.
