After some serious omber and scordite mining, I looked at my dusty collection of Minmatar and Caldari frigates. I got 'em all. From the Breacher to the Kestrel. I then scratch my rough Brutor chin and say heck with it...
I need to do some frigatin' in 0.0!
So I grab the scaffolding, I mean Breacher, attach some standard launchers and MWD, and load up on FOF lights and targeted and I head for the first 0.0 system in the Fountain region. Now this is my 1st excusrsion into 0.0 actually lookin' for a fight. The few times before I was haulin' behind through a few 0.0s.
Well I enter the 0.0 and three people are in local. So I do a 'roid search. At the 2nd belt is a lone Tempest. Uh... I don't think so. So I go through the other 6 belts and no one's there. Just my luck. So I head to the gate to empire and what do ya know:
Two Punishers are sitting at the gate!
No my heart starts to beat faster. What a rush! I'm about 50km from the gate and they ain't movin'. They sitting there, I'm sitting there. Tic... toc... tic... toc. Suddenly 50km turns to 45km. 45km to 38km. They coming straight at me. I smack "orbit at 20km" attempt lock and VIOLA! No jammers! WOO HOO!!
Needless to say, I was flinging missles at both of them faster than quad LIF rockets move. Heck, I didn't care if I was getting hit, I was enjoying watching my missles go to work. Now those Punishers were connecting and 75% of my shield was gone. But I had both of them hurtin' so I was motivated. I hit the MWD to make some space and next thing I know, my scaffolding, I mean Breacher is down to about 10% hull. Sitting in front of me are two APOCs. * GULP *
One of the guys flying the APOC tells me the following in local:
Just had to slow you down a bit since you were giving a couple of our frigates quite a run.
Oh boy. Praise before they splatter me all over space. And they did blow the living mess out of my Breacher but they didn't pod me. Instead one of the Punisher pilots say I got some skills in a frigate and "don't be a stranger to 0.0 space". Then watch as I head to empire (nothing like have two APOCs and two Punishers sit there within 10km and watch you leave). I got chills. LOL!
Wow did I have fun! <<Tariq Steel>> Doin' my thang with an eternity swing!

PvP is fun. Slowly you'll be changing from your usual activities to PvP. Youll go out on another frigate run tommorow, then youll do it three times the next week. You will want to go out with something bigger and better so you take a rupture with you and people in the area notice you. You will apply to some PvP corp and then never go back. Mimiru > It'd be a tie, the monkies nerfed pooflinger wouldnt have enough tracking to hit the parrot orbiting him, but the parrot's beak is so small it couldnt break the monkey's fur tanking. |

Well did some more frigate runs and won a couple (no pod kills though). And it is TOO FUN. One thing I notice about PvP (should have realized this before) but I'm becoming a MUCH better overall pilot. NPC pirates don't seem as scary anymore. I approach combat with a different attitude (a better one).

It was something similiar for me 2 nights ago. I decided for the first time in my eve life to try some pvp instead of mining. I fitted a kestrel and an incursus for the task. My kestrel exploded when I met some guy called odet and my incursus met the same fate when I encountered yarweh. But it sure was fun! and I suppose i'll probably be back for more punishment this weekend :)

Edited by: Wyckoff on 20/08/2004 12:42:20 It's funny to go from reading the post: Pirates-Why Pod, to this one. This one discusses the joys of the game, the rush of combat regardless of the sucess of it. Pirates-Why Podfocuses primarily on the negative aspects, though same situations: Combat.
I mean really, Tariq is nothing but a no good pirate attacking AFK players, probably miners or haulers... (i realize they were gate campers, not haulers and they were equipped for combat and not mining...and may not have been AFK), to me they were innocents. Naughty boy.
What was the load out on those Punishers? I've taken a Kestral into 0.0 space a few times for fun, but I really want to go to town with a Punisher...any good tips?
oh, and good story. ______________ "I Type with my Tongue" |

Of course like anyone, I started in empire. My corp than luckaly moved out to 0.0 around the time I got my first BS. After sucking crock and bist for a while and killing a couple of hundred 0.0 npc rats, I went back to empire with blasters strapped to my mega. This time period in eve is the most fun I ever had.
Special thanks to 4x frigs and 1x cruiser on whom I came up yesterday and almost died in Half. Of you guys, much love to Front for losing a moa, a breacher and a pod to me in the space of 20 minutes and the love letter you sent afterwards. These 20 minutes were the most fun I had in eve to date.

That's a really great story! Welcome to the combat side of Eve, by the way, where every day is a gift and fun is just a high slot away . You know, you just might decide that frigate combat is more fun than anything else, too, and end up zipping around with really perverse loadouts "just to test a theory"... I'm warmed to my black heart that you chose a Breacher for your first PvP, too. While I don't fly that frigate much anymore, for a while it was the king of frigate PvP and my favorite ship.
For the guy who wanted a Punisher loadout, there are two schools of thought for Punisher PvP: long and short range. Long range involves medium pulse lasers and things like that, but I'm more of a close-combat type so I go the other way. This is my normal Punisher setup, which is good for scouting, npc hunting and PvP (with the limitation that you don't have a scrambler, so you'll lose some opponents who warp away, unless you're grouped with a catcher):
High slots 3 dual light pulse lasers small nosferatu Medium slots 10 MN afterburner 1 MN MWD Low slots 3 micro aux power cores small armor repairer
Depending on your skills, you might have to drop down to gatling pulse lasers instead of the dual pulse. The damage over time is similar, but you don't have quite the range. Carry a couple of sets of crystals for PvP (I like multifrequency, x-ray and radio) to give you some flexibility with range, and then go to it. With decent skills you'll end up with a frigate that goes about 1.3 km/s with just the AB, or 6.5 km/s with both drives firing, and you'll be able to maintain it forever.
