Edited by: Herring on 10/03/2009 21:39:40 I'd like to start out by saying, nice expansion.
I haven't got to try it out yet but was able to login without any problems. My only issue so far seems to be upgraded graphics seems to be making my video driver go bonk everytime something explodes, or I get within 10k of a large object, or I set range to something, etc.
Now before you think I'm going off here about that, I'm not. This is just a general plea to stop the unnecessary trend of constantly upgrading the graphics engine.
My appeal is this: For the love of God, please do not add any more upgrades IN THE NEAR FUTURE that will cause the end user to have to purchase more a)memory b)hardware or c)new computer. We simply cannot afford it. If I have to, I will simply quit playing until such time as I can. I won't emorage over it, I'll be forced into it. And I won't be alone.
And you, the game designers, will have forced me. So please, hear my plea. Don't do it until the global economy is better.
Thank you.

Yes please stop making the game look cooler, and keep it looking like it did in 2003 because my old computer cannot handle it.

My laptop is 9 months old and struggled giving a good frame rate (it was 15-20, so still playable). Frankly, STFU. and no, you can't have my stuff. |

A celeron bought yesterday is still a celeron. Telling us your computer is 9 mos old tells us nothing. Buy bigger next time.

Odds are that your laptop isn't a gaming laptop.

Well said. Some people don't seem to understand that others don't have 3-4 high-spec machines that they replace every year. When the global economy is an uncertain as it is now, you ought to show some respect to those people who aren't able to upgrade.
My laptop is barely 1 year old and struggles to run the current client to the extent classic did.

Alienating a large section of your customer base and therefore turnover isn't really very smart is it? I have an old PC and cannot afford to buy a new one at the moment as I am saving to pay the fees for my master degree. I have 2 accounts. If the expansion puts me out of the game then I wont be playing eve for a very long time.

Ok then you wont be playing. That sucks. But honestly, I bet they are saving butt-loads of money by not supporting 2 clients. The home country of Eve is in a WICKED by economic shape and they prolly have to seriously cut costs.

So awesome that my Desktop from 2003 outperforms your laptop from last year. See any of these on there?: Celeron / Centrino /Duron Maybe avoid that next time...

I think this is what everyone seems to be missing: It's not a large section of their customer base. They took a measurement of the people that would be unable to play and decided it wasn't worth the cost of maintaining classic.
So while I sympathize with not being able to afford new hardware, CCP's not hurting themselves by doing this and is in no way obligated to make sure EVE continues to run on hardware that was already old in 2002...

Does your calculator support TCP/IP as well? Or do you need a new net protocol for that? :-)

I think the answer isn't bringing classic back (that was deposed of for a reason), but making a new client without 3D graphics - code it in Java even (I dunno, but Java ports to everything, so...), point being to let people log in, change skills, operate chat and possibly EVE voice, EVEmail, and possibly market functions.
I will be going abroad in a couple years for 6 months to a year and my lappie's got an Intel 4500MHD (I needed a Tablet PC for school). It's got a 3.8 overall rating on Vista, and if I cannot at least log in to change skills then I will be suspending both of my accounts until I can get back to my big bad gaming machine back home.

NEWEGG easist place to solve your lack of computing and/or graphics problems. You can build a fairly nice custom system for not much more than a store bought one. ----------------------------------------------- We all die sometime, the trick is to make sure your enemies die first |

The fact that your outmoded graphics card can't handle Shader 2.0 is a shame. I pity you. However, I started patching at 1700 GMT, it's now 2200 and the d/l is only at 30% completed. On the plus side, graphics card is only 12 months old, so :p to you!
