CCP was essentially supporting 2 completely different graphics engines. They told us way back when they released premium content with Trinity, that they were going to eventually drop support for the classic client. This has been coming for a loooooonnnnnggg time now.
Think about it this way - would it be better business sense to drop the classic client, or the premium client? Maintaining two clients costs CCP twice as much money, so unless the classic client playerbase is generating more revenue than it costs to maintain, CCP is definitely going to drop the classic client.

regardless of that fact, there is a global recession going on that is on the verge of a global depression and you clowns think going out and spending cash on new recreational activities is a good plan. no.
yet another **** poor decision by the geniuses that are cccp.
This. Thread over.
I'm yet another laptop player whose laptop won't run the new "classic null" eve client. So now while I'm doing work stuff on my desktop machine, no more background high sec mining, etc. I'm sure I'm not alone, and I'm sure a bunch of people are going to be canceling second accounts over it--how do the two "premium lite" clients do on one machine? I bet poorly.
Classic client uses software rendering, so it should actually be WORSE than the premium lite clients, which can take advantage of the graphics card to render the scene. Of course, this presumes that you have a semi-decent graphics card - IE not a low end card, and not on-board.

How much notice was given is irrelevent and silly arguement related to only this month. I certainly don't remember a notice on that in all the junk mail they send to email? Why would you have to dig for it in forums?
News Flash! You don't buy a new laptop for a friggen game! Lets grow up kids!
First they quite support anything older than XP (out went my old desktops) Now they quit handling half the laptops on the planet (and mine). Keep on narrowing that consumer requirements window there CPP...lol..especially in the middle of peoples pocket books getting squeezed..lol It is really comical. Look for a stock to plunge even further and more bankruptcies?
Well that is why programmers are not business people. Besides all the "challenged" people replying here to defend it. Did they actually figure out how many people they would lose by making this stupid move? and yes. it's stupid.
Next game up!
Hmm..well WOW still works..
Interestingly enough, WoW also dropped support for Windows 98 and older operating systems at just about the same time as EVE.
