Ive been having troubles with eve since I started. Ive tried almost everything I could think of to fix the problem. Perhaps theres something that i may be doing wrong.
I bought a custom built comptuer made for Eve, and ive upgraded it to try to get it to work.
When I first started playing eve, I was constantly getting booted. Sometimes I would be able to play for up to an hour without getting booted, and then other times i would get booted after logging in. The problem seemed to get worse over time.
I started playing with
A gigabyte motherboard with onboard VIA sound.
256MB of DDR ram pc2100
a 64MB geforce mx 440.
I downloaded all the drivers i could find. Eve still wouldnt work properly.
I thought it could be a problem with not enough ram so i upgraded to 512 MB
It didnt fix the problem so I tested the memory. Tested fine, no problems at all.
So I bought a new graphics card thinking that may be the problem. ATI 9600 128MB card.
That didnt fix the problem.
My problem seems worse now, I cant travel outside the station without getting booted. I get booted in the station as well.
My computer also randomly crashes and gets memory dumps /BSOD.
Ive reformated my HD many times, but it doesnt seem to help any.
I also noticed that my speakers make an barely audible sound
when i move my mouse pointer around. Could this be the problem?
Anyone know what the problem could be?

Sounds like something is overheating
What CPU have you got, do things get really hot inside your PC
Have you installed the VIA motherboard drivers after you reloaded the O/S? (www.viaarena.com)
Also if your PC is crashing randomly outside of eve then you have a problem & it has nothing to do with what eve is asking from your PC.
More than likely your CPU heatsink or fan has a problem, I would check that the fan is turning, also when you start eve, check to see how hot the heatsink gets. You may be looking at replacing the heatsink with something that can handle more heat.
We could do with the following info
CPU, what heatsink have you got & if re-used what speed & type of CPU had it fitted before
OS & what patches you have applied to it
Firewall / AntiVirus software
Driver versions

This is a new AMD athlon XP 1.7ghz. The case cover is off and a fan is blowin into it. The heatsink fan is working.
Im running windows XP with the service pack 2 installed.
The latest catlyst drivers for my ATI card.
Have installed the via drivers.
I have had no anti virus software intalled, since i reformated.
Would you be able to decifer a BSOD error?

You state that you run this system with the case side off and a fan directed into the machine? do you or have you overclocked this machine? maybe an overclocking session has left your CPU with some major problem.
The symptems do suggest overheating/memory or BIOS setup problems.
I have had a problem like this one an old Athlon Classic, it was so unstable for so long, changing memory actually fixed the problem evan tho the old stuff tested to be 100% perfect.

Does the motherboard have a KT400A chipset on it? If so, turn down the music in game. Or try updating the sound drivers from www.cmedia.com.tw. That worked for me. :)

Service pack 2 does work with eve (running it here atm) it can cause problems but Eve is changed to run in win98 compatability mode & it then works fine
I would look at re-fitting the heatsink on the CPU (use some good quality thermal paste) & make sure the heatsink is fitted around the correct way around. If its not the correct way around the center of the spring clip does not press down on the CPU core and it overheats.
When the computer crashes, try and feel how hot the heatsink is on the CPU, if you cant touch it because its to hot you need a bigger heatsink & fan, if its cool then its not making contact with the CPU and the CPU is overheating, if its very warm but you can hold it then its running ok.

Yes SP2 is kind of a gamble since many software cie haven't adjusted to it already. However since you say that you hear a sound when moving your cursor I would also try to cut off all sound in game and see if it changes anything, I never trusted these onboard sound devices but many uses them now so they must work ;) .

I think its in propriety menu (right click your desktop EVE ico) and you should find it there.

I doubt it, someone could correct me but I think this is a fan for the south bridge chipset (in your case VIA). Some MB have a fan others a heat sink but usually it's not the shop that put these on, they come with the board. The shop will only install your CPU/fan combo.
