I've tried pretty much everything - patches, installers and everything else. Nothing has solved the problem, CCP haven't provided any form of a solution and I'm seriously ticked off.
As far as I'm concerned, I have no way of playing EVE Online anymore. It was bad enough having to download the game 4 times to get it to install on my new PC. ________________________________________________

Have you tried the full patch with a downloader?
http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/EVE_Premium_Setup_84244_m.exe
Try it with getright or leechget or some other download manager

Solution 1: It may be an issue with the installer's built-in 7-Zip thing. Downloading 7-Zip and running it once may fix the problem. Solution 2: Download the patch/client from another source, the source you have been using may have a corrupted file or a screwed up connection.
I had the same issues for a while too, but a few hours ago I redownloaded the full client from CCP (http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/EVE_Premium_Setup_84244_m.exe), ran 7-Zip before the extracting finished just to be safe, and it verified alright and is now slowly installing. (there is also a torrent around http://www.fulldls.com/download-games-1604017-EVE_Premium_Setup_84244_m%20exe.torrent - I havne't used it myself but I've heard it works)
Good luck, I've been at this for more than 24h now, and after multiple download and installation attempts it finally seems like it's working okay. -------

No luck!

And you use a download manger like getright instead of the built in windows downloader?

Sounds to me like your ISP is doing DPI on your downloads and might be causing them to corrupt.
That, or your AV software is a steaming pile of crap and is doing it. --- Have a rawr on me. |

I don't run antivirus as a rule - if I get anything nasty I'll just reinstall XP. An ISP problem is possible, mind, but I've tried this on a different ISP and it also failed... ________________________________________________

Sounds like you have a bad sectors on your hard drive. CRC = Cyclic redundancy check.
The only other reason you would get this error is if you were installing from a bad disk or your source was corrupt.

It had been announced that the Classic client would be retired back in January. Check the system requirements page to see if your computer can run Premium Lite (Shader Model 2.0 card required, but not the SM 3.0 that's needed for regular Premium)

Thanks for the help people.
I got the file off my college's internet connection, wrote it to a DVD-RW and checked the install - it extracts flawlessly from the DVD (on the college system). Therefore, when I take it home tonight and extract, if I get a CRC error then it will be my computer as opposed to the installer, saving me the heartache of having to redownload.
Of course, having a copy of the installer on a DVD-RW is also very handy, especially when you have another DVD so you can take EVE with you wherever you go... ________________________________________________

Edited by: Andrue on 12/03/2009 14:32:12 I agree. I downloaded the patch four times in all, twice for Sisi and twice for Tranquility.
The first time always failed. 1.3GB is far too large to have a single checksum. It should have been broken down into 100MB chunks each with their own checksum.
In addition CCP ought to try and work out why it's failing. It's the first time I've had any kind of downloading problems since I moved to ADSL several years ago.
Aside from a poor implementation they have some kind of technical fault that needs addressing. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

It's a euphamism, using the context that downloading takes time. 10GB will have taken an amount of time to do. It's algebra. ________________________________________________

I suppose it might be a memory problem, but I somehow doubt it - this is good quality DDR 400! I've owned it for 2 years longer than my current PC, which was ú50 off a friend who was getting a new one, and it had a Pentium D 940 - a nice step up from an Athlon XP 2700+! I'll run memtest this evening though, you can never be too careful. I'll also run an error check and a few defrags over the next few days. ________________________________________________

Trust me, memory can have lots of problems even though it appears to be working. I worked in a comp shop where we built and serviced computers ourselves and sometimes you got one of those PC's with odd problems you couldn't quite figure out and after learning it the hard way "I ran some ramtests and it appears to be fine, must be something else" the FIRST thing I'll do nowadays when I get a PC with a severe case of gremlins is replace the memory.
More often than not it solves the issue.

Run several defrags on your hard drive. If you are installing via a download, make sure that you have the latest drivers for your NIC. Check if there are any updates to the firmware of your router. I have seen this issue with network problems as well as bad media being used. Are you installing from an external mirror other then CCP's Site? Did you uninstall the full eve package before you installed the latest client?
Good luck!
Bad RAM is also a possibility.
but yes, CRC errors are not CCPs problem i am afraid mate, very much yours.

Sounds like something I would do considering 90% of the time memory tests won't catch problems until it's too late. And if it DOES catch a problem, the memory is probably dead by then anyway. It takes extremely bad memory to fail a memory test these days... ----------------------------------- "What can go wrong, will go wrong." |

Possible problem right here. Remember children, virusses, whether apparant or not, can cause hard disk corruption.

Never knew time could take up so much space on a HD. It's good I have 1.5TB in total or else I would have ran out of time long, long ago. This does mean I will need to get more HD's, just in case it's the end of the world and I need more space for time
