During the huge Q&A forum thing i was bored and read most of the Q&As and one thing that sparked my interest was regarding a science vessel.
The answer was along the lines that The SoE were busy designing a research and exploration vessel (maybe mention of BC sized, cant remeber). Now, there was a SoE research ship in the End of World stories and we have the Wormholes now so how long do u think till the SoE finish their designing and what bonus do u think/would like to see on the ship and what fittings? At first i would expect it to be tech I same as ORE's Mining Barges and eventually a tech II version. if its BC i would like to see this layout (15 slots)
4 x hislots 4 x Mids 7 x Lows
Tech I hitpoints and resists.
Hi 1 x cloak 1 x core probe launcher 1 x salvager II 1 x tractor beam
Mids Afterburner Analyzer Codebreaker [spare slot]
Lows Armor tank and WCS/Cargo.
Skill bonus 15% per level to scan probe deviation 15% per level to scan probe strength
Role bonus 25% Access difficulty of analyzer and codbreaker modules
role bonus maybe not needed but it is a dedicated ship type so it'd be nice that it excels in what it does and these could be kept for tech II verison of the ship itself, even make various sizes like with Minigg barge if needed.
well thats my 2 pence and i'd probs say xmas patch would be when we'd see any signs of the ship itself do as u wish with the post but i'd like to hear other (and probes lots better) ideas

Would be nice if there is a ship u can solo low sec radar plexes...just enough damage.

I like your general idea but it doesn't seem right for the scanning bonuses to beat out cov-ops bonuses by so much.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

covert ops ships are cheap and im sure that the research ship will be anything but cheap _____________________________________________ yawnnnnn |

I don't know if I would fly that personally. To be able to effectively explore in W space you need to be able to warp cloaked, starting warp when you arrive isn't going to save you.
So I'd need a cov-ops cloak before I even looked at that thing for wormhole use.

Agreed. Drop the scan deviation bonus and give it a cov-ops cloak bonus.

Perhaps the T1 verion could be made suitable for hi/lo sec plexes, with just enough drone space to handle rats, while a T2 verion could have CovOps cloak functionality and be useful for wormholes.
I think I would quite fancy a BC sized science vessel. I would like that a lot.

The bonuses seem a bit extreme considering you're asking for a t1 hull.
The covert ops only gets a strength bonus per level so beating that AND adding a deviation bonus on a t1 ship seems over the top. What about a 10% to strength and scan deviation per level? Maybe a 5% to codebreaker and analyzer chance per level too? Make people want to train for the bonuses, not just give them on a silver platter. It should have 50 bandwidth with 75 drone bay at least due to high slots being impractical for weapons. It would of course only be available from the SOE LP store.
On a slight tangent, an "explorer" ship should be able to stay away from a base for an extended period of time without needing significant repair. So what about it being able to refit ships in the field? Like a carrier but on a much smaller scale? Or if that's over the top, perhaps only being able to refit itself? So it can serve as a forward base that can repair exploration fleets with remote reps after sleeper encounters but without the massive cargobay of orcas or carriers and needing to remove some of it's highs in order to do so.

I've done all my exploring in WH space with a T1 heron, that I am positive does not have a cov-ops cloak. I did lose one on the first day but, admittedly it was due to my own error (or slow response time). Nine times out of ten, I get out of a site before I see any blinkies.
From my perspective, as long as you don't get stuck on an object you can get out of a site in time to not get popped. Even if you were cloaked and got stuck on something, you'd be uncloaked immediately when the warp ended anyway. Jumping in a wormhole puts you within range to use it again, or very close, every time (5km range required to enter). You can drop probes and then cloak up and scan in safety with a normal cloak as well.
Fitting for agility may be a good idea but I'm going to have to say that a cov-ops cloak simply isn't needed.

Would be useless.
More expensive than a Covert ops and more vulnerable as morons will want to take it into firefights

Well a SOE ship would be faction, and the role mainly for exploration and not just as a side bonus like all other exploration ships.
