Originally by: Wild Rho How about if you quit your corp during a war you cant rejoin it until the war is over with that corp, not a perfect solution ut its somthing to start on.
This sounds like a good idea but I don't think you should have to wait for the war to finish but say 3 days to a week would be prety good.

What happens when a corporation surrenders a war to their enemy? I've always wondered that, but I never looked it up...
Anyhow, one thing hardcore people have to realize is that not everyone plays EVE just to fight in PvP in wars, piracy or whatever, and many people don't want to have anything at all to do with that aspect of EVE. They should not have to either. Every playstyle has it's place in EVE, respect that...
Having said that, people that avoid conflict during a corp war by leaving and then coming back to the corp later should be held accountable for exploiting game mechanics. If they don't want to be in a corporation war, find another corp that doesn't war or don't join a player corp at all. ---------------

Basicly there are 2 versions of leaving a corp during a war:
1: leaves the corp to escape imediate harm. 2: leaves corp as PvP is not for them.
The first category I would say can be a warnable offence as this abuses the war system to for example escape when the enemy has you cornered.
The second category is however not, this is a game people pay to play and no player should be forced to play it in a way he or she does not like.
If the second category is an exploitish situation then hiding in stations, running to safespots, loging off (and I meen waiting out the timer, not the talked about forced quick log) and any other avoidance of fighting when you know you are chanceless should be considered exploits aswell and I doubt anyone would like to be forced to fight to the death with no chance of escape.
In short, leaving a corp to not have to be the victim of a war and then rejoining once peace has broken out should be fine.

Edited by: ruro on 16/08/2004 10:27:56 I think the cost of war should be dependant on the average number of players over the period of a week in each corporation, and the ratio of members the declaring corp has to the number the victim corp has. The base cost of war would also depend on the average number of players in a corporation over the past week, the base cost per player could be something like 100k isk.
E.g: Corp A has 100 members. Corp B has 50 members. Corp C has 200 members. Corp D has 100 members.
Corp A declares war on corp B. It will cost corp A 20 million per day to maintain their war on Corp B.
Corp A declares war on Corp C, it will cost corp A 5 million per day to maintain their war on Corp C.
Finally, Corp A declares war on Corp D, it will cost Corp A 10 million per day to maintain their war on Corp D.
--
This is all just a fantasy though, and could never really happen as it would probably ruin pvp wars :]

There is no way this could be considered an exploit until declaring war on non-combat miner corps to allow easy gank fests is also considered an exploit. Joining a non-war corp wont do anything to protect you from griefers abusing the war system.

Edited by: Danton Marcellus on 16/08/2004 15:27:50 What non-combatative corporations need is some depth of social skills to the game where they can lean on their patrons the megacorporations to get back at the aggressors, via embargos, NPC blockades of select routes and so forth, all at the tip of the fingers of a skilled diplomat.
Send TomB on vacation and let the combat aspect of the game rest a while, we need other more immersive skills.

Bunch of lame whiners. Leaving a corp means I can no longer fight in the war. This is completely fair. I did not support the corp during their war effort, so if they let me back in after the war its up to them.
If you can still be attacked for 24 hours after you leave a corp, then there is absolutely no exploit here.
Not fighting is a valid war strategy.
And lets be real, leaving the corp to haul some load 2 systems is hardly a worthy 'exploit.' Any corp worth their salt will destroy this hauler anyway. Unless he is in .5+ systems in which case hes not hauling anything worth concern.
The only exploit here is fighting and transferring money into non-NPC corps while you are in an NPC corp. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

Actually I believe declaring war on a n00b corp should be considered an exploit.
I mean comon a 6 month old pirate ceo of a 40member corp declares war on a 1 week old 1.0 miner corp without having even had any dealings with them? I mean to be ready to declare war on someone you need a valuable reason no?
I think that all war declarations should be processed by CCP, and they would check whether the war is relevant, and not declared to hold ransom a poor corp who only wants to relax and socialize.
Having corps pay isk weekly to fun a war is pretty much useless is stopping big corps from delcaring war. We all know somw pirates corp out there have more money than they can fit up their arses, and 1mil a week is a laughable amount of money, even for a 1month old pilot.
To focus on the thread, I would say no. You shouldnt be able to leave a corp just so you can avoid a war. You joined the corp, they got in trouble, deal with it. If you run away you're a wuss.

My corp has been in a corp war with some other corp for over a year now, I believe.
This war has been so active that I have no clue where those guys even are. In fact, I do believe that that corp is down to about one person now; they just haven't punched the off button yet.
Though, I suppose if I were to happen across one of them, we would fight, and possibly even kill one or the other.
Not every corp war is an immediate epic struggle to the death.

So in short, if I declare war on your corp then none of your corp members should be able to leave that corp untill the war is resolved?
That could have some fun effects.
The point is here that not all players want to be part of a war, just as not all players want to be the victim of PK or participate in PvP.
Leaving a corp when it gets into a war is the equivilent of running to a safespot, docking at a station or leaving the system when a fight comes along.
I can safely say if a powerfull enough corp declares war on my corp I will leave it as I am not amused of geting blown to pieces in empire space just to give them some cheap kicks. You can also be certain as soon as that corp decides my corp is no fun anymore I will go back to the corp and play with my friends.
I pay for this game to have fun, that is I want to have fun, I dont give squat about your fun. If I get pushed into a situation where I dont have fun then I know what to do, Im a minmatar wich meens Im selfsuficient and very mobile, if too many PK players start hanging out where I play I move on, eve is huge, there are plenty of corners where I can make my isk and have fun, especially out in 0.0.
In conclution, if leaving a corp because its declared war upon is an exploit then leaving a fight is one too, and there are NO excuses in that case!
In truth, only an idiot never retrets, only an idiot never surrenders (Tho I prefer to retreat as compared to surrender).

You can leave, you just can't rejoin, that's the surrender part of it all you're talking about.

there should be a conciquence (bad spelling) from leaving a corp once the war goes bad though
the best solution would be that you are free to leave during the 24 hour warning period (before the war starts) and if you do not log on during the 24 hour warning period you should recive a eve mail and when you log on you should get a notify saying your corp is at war with corp X they have 50 members do you want to leave the corp you are in yes/no if you chose no you are in for the duration if you chose yes you cant rejoin the corp
this would mean that any corp has 24 hours to disolve if a war is declared upon them if they dont they are in for the duration
also any member should be allowed to leave during the war for a fine paid to the agreser corp (or the corp that you are at war with)
having a scale making it more expensive for a huge corp to declare war on a tiny one is also a good idear

Some people seem to be saying its wrong to leave a corp due to a war.
This is nonsense. If you get declared war on and dont want to be part of it then leave its fine.
What is lame is if you rejoin afterwards.
Therefore there is a simple solution, if you leave a corp during a war you cant join till its over, or for a set period (eg a month).
That will make it fair for all.
To say that people have to stay in a corp to get slaughtered and cant leave is ludicrous. lol.
