Well chaps I have finally made it into WHspace with a small gang of 5BS's. Its great and a hard challenge as well. We entered WHspace from a Lowsec Kspace system, the damage that those Sleepers put out is face meltingly good and we were having to warp back & forth even with remote reps ..... great challenge at last for a change. We killed a few sleepers but by the end we had lost 2 ships and the others had been mauled so badly we withdrew back through the WH hurt but having had a great deal of fun....
My question to the community is has anyone actually been able to work out what is the best damage to deal against these beasts and what is the best tank? We went in with a full spectrum tank cover as is and we used all missile & gun types. TBH we were having to cope so rapidly with the damage that we were not able to observe what was working best...
Any guidance would be appreciated and big thankyou to CCP for making the NPC's challenging ...

drop in with 4 missile boats. open the log. each missile boat fires a different type of damage. then all you have to do is fire off a few rounds. warp out and compare combat logs to see who got off the most damage _____________________________________________ yawnnnnn |

Rumour has it Sleepers "adapt" to your damage type ? So maybe its not that simple ?

They fire volleys of kintherm at you with missiles and dps with emtherm. So you're looking at needing an even tank.
Yeah, it's hard. It's supposed to be.
I find that they do really high volley damage right off the bat with an alpha strike of missiles + laser, so it may seem staggering. But if you can beat their paltry laser DPS you can rep through their missile cycles. Works for me in a tank domi versus intermediate sleeper sites.

I had 3 heavy launchers on my BB. Thermal, Kinetic and EM all did 77.7 for me. I'm guessing that Exp. will be the same.

My passive drake had 4 cruisers and a BS tanked .. the BS was hitting for over 1000 a shot .. and the cruisers were nosing & webbing me .. still managed to kill them. Shooting thunderbolts, did a quick survey of flipping each flavour .. seemed like EM was best.
Drones are a definate no go ... as the sleepers eat em.
Nice loot though.

In regards to drones. You can use them but your best to bring a fully tanked Domi, since your going to be going through quite a few. It's set-up so drones boats can't just sit back take aggro and go read a book you actually have to pay attention to your drones and manage them.

Using EM gave me 73 damage per missile. Kinetic was 91 damage per missile. That is exactly 25% more damage with kinetic at BC V ie: they had exactly the same resists to both.
Most of what I've heard is that they take the same damage from every type. I'm inclined to believe that, and it sort of makes sense that they would.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Tank stronger for EM/thermal and use defender missiles? I wonder how much HP their missiles have.

Please try this stuff: - signature/speed tanking (for missiles will work wonders i guess) - tracking disruptors - even better: ECM (use tanked armor tanked scorpions at range, should work) - asigned drone swarm (use loads of t1 lights) to a fast ship orbiting at range to buy sometime - loads of plated logistics (some people worked with this on sisi from what i heard) signature tanking
It seems passive buffer armor tanks are which work the best though -no active tanking as the dps will melt you in seconds, like a real pvp fleet- (amarr win again?).
I didn't have time to try w-space yet but from what i've read and saw on sisi these are some ideas that could make your life easier and reduce loses (hard plexes are quite hard though, so you're going to lose ships time to time)

Well I have tried various loadouts and I can confirm that it is definately a even tank needed as they cover all types of Damage.
I took a Chimera into WHspace from a 0.4 low sec system & on its own managed to complete 1 of the complex's but OMG what a nightmare ..... Ship survived but almost went into armour twice and the sleepers spawned extra BS's to counter the Carrier and finally they had the Carrier webbed & warp scramed most of the engagement. Killed all of them but my Drone bay was empty except for 2 fighters & a handful of t2 heavy drones. Having said that it was great fun with a few heart stopping moments...
We have since found that armour repping BS's is a good option to deal with the sleepers, but, need to be quick to react with your Corps mates to swap the reps etc but at least you have the shield buffer to tell who is in the **** the most.
VV tough and if anyone has any further information that may be useful in dealing with these guys it would be gratefully received......

If you can scrounge up a couple of players in Logistics ships, you should be golden through a class 5 wormholes. One or two more would be nice in a class 6 to keep up with the alpha. Other than that, a few damage ships that can take out the BS's AND the frigs (think mix of BS and BC) is all you need to run a site. Class 6 wormholes are not kind to drones, they eat them by the handful, so drone boats are not all that useful in that particular situation.
Have a couple of your players train up to fly a dual guardian or basilisk setup and you can run pretty much anything except class 6 when 3-4 logistics are needed. Logistics lvl 4 will work, but lvl 5 gives you that extra cap to spread around the rest of the fleet.

They seem to have a really even tank themeselves, so stick with that damage type your ship gets a bonus to. If your fighting spawns of 5 or less battleships, use a marauder or command ship to tank them.
A note for the people wanting to use carriers. If your not alone, it's almost always better to throw down a cheap small poss and just assign the fighters, and have them return if they get damaged. Not only does this help protect your carrier, if someone starts screaming yarr, you have a fallback place :p

im not for sure about damage type they do. I run a passive tanked drake and it works exceptionally well. what to shoot at them they have = resist to everything so using a ship with a damage bonus use that damage type otherwise use whatever is hardest hitting.

Are you saying the missiles do kinetic/thermal and the guns do laser/explosive?

From clearing Perimeter sites (Class1/2 main sites) all of today found a few things. In perimeter sites there are no webs, frontier frigates and some cruisers do have them however. Sirius turrets have a max range of 100k, not sure abour Argus turrets, didn't have a chance to test. I was doing this in a Cerberus with a buffer setup (no real tank), and can safely say that despite the huge amounts of EHP these ships have they aren't much trouble if you engage from 150k or so. Battleships damage output changes with variety but the ones you encounter on low level sites use Cruise missiles at long range, and lasers under 50k, the damage of the cruises vary some only hitting me for 160 or so all the way up to 640 (1k when stationary) from the much tougher BS type that spawns with the third wave from a Perimeter Checkpoint. They both have an equal omni buffer and (unless you're out of laser range) deal all damage types, missiles are kin/expl (you can just show info on a missile to confirm this, and the lasers are EM/Therm. For soloing I would recommend class 1 and 2 systems, class 3/4 would be doable in a command ship or marauder maybe, but I'll have to look into harder sites.

oh, and as for you drone users, to make them stick to you throw some EWar or tackle on to them and they should keep you primary most of the time. Haven't tested it but apparently they go crazy about gang modules so might be easy to get a BC/CS to hold aggro.
