Exactly why should anyone honor anything? I'm actually curious as to why the C&P denizens get their panties in a twist when someone dishonors a 1v1 but when it's a Jita scam or a suicide gank or an especially juicy kill, it's all good. How is it any different? I see dishonored 1v1s and I see someone who got scammed. But for some reason, it's different- be damned if I know why.
There is no honor but what you bring with you.
Because 1v1s are fun. Some people forget Eve is a game. I'd rather lose my ship in a fun fight than camp a gate in a massive gang all day. No one has to honour 1v1s, no one has to honour ransoms, but for some of us they make the game more fun and it's useful to have some idea who can be trusted and who can't. The only people I see "getting their panties in a twist" are those sharing your point of view.
This is the best post in this thread by far.
Plenty of times in a 1v1 I've stayed and lost my ship when I could easily have MWD'd out and warped. Why? Because 1v1s are fun. Who cares about losing your ship, it's about attitude.
Also comparing suicide ganks to 1v1s is megadumb. Funnily enough before a suicide gank there is no agreement not to do it.
Like I said, dishonoring a 1v1 is cowardice. Bringing in a second guy to gank is just dull, there's no thrill in that. The thrill lies in a close 1v1 where you don't know if you'll win or lose, and if you win the adrenaline rush is much bigger than if you just bring a second ship to gank. Unfortunately people with no balls will never get to experience that :(((((((

1) You're in 0.0 where anything goes. If you want a safe 1 -v- 1 ... join an NPC corp, drop a can and have fun in empire because that is about the safest you'll get in-game. You took a risk, lost and now you're bytching about it.
2) If you want a fight ... go look for one instead of whoring yourself out in local for a 1 -v- 1.
3) Remember ... Hookers often get pimp slapped ... just like you did.
4) Crying on the forums about a beat-down you recieved by putting your faith in a complete stranger to abide by some code that doesn't exist in game only makes you look dumb ... so now you're a DUMB HOOKER ...

Generally, it would be wisest to go with Jimer's advice.
Although all you have to do is: 1.) Fleet up with the other person when they are ready to fight 2.) Make a new safe spot, warp to it, align and tell them to warp to you 3.) Warp out if they don't bring the agreed upon ship type, take longer than 20 seconds to land/you see probes on scan 4.) Fite 5.) Say gf ---------

Hm if I use my alt to gank the target, it's still a 1on1, huh? And it's double thrilling because you have to watch 2 screens! Now if the general eve client crash joins your party...man thats an adrenaline rush. _________________________________

To dishonor a 1v1 is not merely cowardice, its weakness. Spout all the rhetoric you want, but its still just verbal vomit from a misguided thought process.
The guy that destroyed my ruppie last night, he used drones and kept well out of my scrambler range. Sure enough, he got a shiny new kill. As much as I disliked his tactics, I respect both him and those tactics. Maybe somewhere down the road, I will get a chance to tangle with him again, and I would be proud to do so, win or lose. Those are the kind of players I can respect and would like to know.
Those who feel the need to use their buddies to get an easy kill...well, ultimately, you are just robbing yourself of a challenge and some fun, so I pity you. You're kind of sad, like that kid that smells like pee and eats dirt. You don't have to, but you do, and you garner nothing but contempt and a healthy lack of respect and empathy from those around you. So yeah, keep feeding yourself from the propaganda (rhymes with panda) machine, just try not to drink so much kool-aid in the process. I ate a Carebear once...couldn't quit farting rainbows for a month. |

I still don't understand how anyone can, with a straight face, complain about dishonored 1v1s while laughing at people complaining about being ganked at gates, popped in belts, or losing ISK to a scam.
I wouldn't offer or accept a 1v1, any more than I'd try to scam someone, but it's part of the game. Falling for a dishonored 1v1 is just another kind of scam; you trusted someone would hold to some verbal promise, and you lost because you did so.

Here's the way i look at it..
I was following you and was going to engage you whether you liked it or not. And TBH, we had 3-4 more guys on the gate waiting for you to jump through.
We were out seeking some PvP, I happened to be bait and you fell for it. I doubt you would have 1v1'd a megathron aye?
You died. I win. :) Aaaaand i got your stuff :P..
I'll make you a deal though... Pick any type of ship and I will 1v1 you in the same ship class. Just name the place :)

As Yoda said, "No. Only different in your mind." You trusted someone, and you lost. That's how you got scammed.
* Get ganked on a gate? Your fault, you didn't scout. You did something stupid and you lost something valuable. * Get your can flipped while mining? Your fault, you should mine with GSCs or work in a group. You did something stupid and you lost something valuable. * Get popped trying to rat or mine outside of hisec? Your fault, you didn't watch local and your directional. You did something stupid and you lost something valuable. * Lose ISK to a scam? Your fault, you didn't read carefully or you trusted someone. You did something stupid and you lost something valuable. * Arrange a 1v1 and get ganked? Your fault, you trusted someone you had no reason to. You did something stupid and you lost something valuable.
These all have a common element. A fool trusting in either blind luck or someone else's good faith. Neither of those will EVER get you ahead in EVE.
A 1v1 is a contract, an agreement to do something, but relying purely on the good faith of those involved, without any real knowledge of whether or not they should have trust extended to them. This is the recipe of failure that gets people mocked in this forum so badly they've quit the game.
Doing a 1v1 is like accepting a contract from Jita local. You might not get scammed, but I'm not gonna give you good odds on it.

It's nothing to do with getting ahead in EVE, or winning at the game or anything else like that though.
Most of the people I know will accept and honour any 1v1, just because they're fun, nothing to do with winning.

Go back and re-read the op--you'll not find complaining or whining. EVE's sizable 1-v-1 community is completely aware of the risks they take and are quite prepared to have their duels busted by opponents who call in support. What they're doing in threads like this is simply to report to one another who doesn't "play nice," so they can all avoid dueling such pilots.
Of course, others take great delight in coming in and shouting "Tears! Whine! Stupid! Lowsec!" knowing that their narrative has a good chance of being taken for the actual message originally posted.

he's right though, just because some people get so excited at the prospect of an easy kill they can't keep their epeen docked doesn't mean everybody will. dishonoring 1v1s is just another facet of scamming, this time with a chewy PVP center, and the usual provisos about trusting random people on the internet stand.
