It really doesnt look like something amazing happened. The old one was pretty 'WOW!' no matter how many times you saw it, this one just isnt cutting the mustard for me. Why did they change it ? maybe we should start there for answers.

When a ship appears on the battlefield thru a cyno, everybody should know it...not just be a little bubble.

Old one was good because it made me pee myself when I first got hotdropped.

Like Sirani I think that a combination of the old and new effect could be nice.
Basically the new effect is just too short to be awe-inspiring. It's ok for when a ship finally appears. But there needs to be a transition animation or effect.
Just btw. the new soap-bubble effect totally doesn't fit the stargate meachanic and effect. It goes like 'plop', but you can still see the ship model. Makes no sense.
In general things should only 'plop' into presence, but not out of it.
So my suggestion:
- Add some transition effect for capital cyno jumps
- Remove effect from entering stargate and replace it with a 'dissipating' animation

This is warping effects 2.0. Its less gritty, less laggy and a hell of a lot less quiet. No more CABOOM through the stargates, no more KSSSS BOOM with Jump Effects and less "shake and bake" when ships exit warp. Its smooth, its visually better and more discreet. Which in all honesty, is what it should be. Don't like it? Too bad. I hear WoW needs more players.
CCP isn't going to change it. I like it and it works. And I even want to be a capital pilot even more after seeing this effect.

Ontopic: Just to reiterate on others observations the new wormhole effect is juicy goodness. However putting it on multiple things that are regularly seen waters down the gravy just a bit. Now hopefully this is just the crunch of getting apoc out on the 10th showing up and they will have better moar impressive animations to show us in a future hotfix patch or maybe apoc 1.1 etc etc. One hopes.
