EON is running a little competition to celebrate Apocrypha's first weekend of existence. If you send us a screenshot, you could win 100 million ISK and see your name in glossy print. Details here.
And for a bonus ISK, is anyone confident enough to predict a new "Peak Concurrent User" record come Sunday night?

New PCU? Considering a lot of people haven't had time to download/install the new version of EVE, I will guess around 53k pilots on Sunday.

With all due respect, what is there to celebrate? This expansion is bug ridden. Full of unnecessary changes and very little actual improvement. It's the Windows Vista of EVE.

What part of 'richer, smoother internet experience'. Don't you get ?
This expansion is the best thing to happen to eve in years.

I'm sure the peak concurrent user record will be beaten this weekend... unfortunately most of the players who have managed to downlad the patch at all will be stuck on the login screen, or on a gate that is shut, or wading through lag like a freighter in reverse.
The new graphics are gorgeous... shame the rest of the game is broken.
Nothing to celebrate here... I'll come back in a couple of weeks when you've fixed it.

When EVE was released in May 2003 there was much to celebrate, even though it was far from being the game it is today. Seeing EVE on store shelves again (even if the box is a little lighter than some were expecting) reminds some of us veterans how far EVE has come. Personally it's been quite a journey... and well worth celebrating. EON | blog |

You cant expect people to pay for a journey. People want working products. Alot of you vets are hung up on nostalgia, while alot of us new players see it for what it is NOW.

There may be some wispy nostalgia hanging in the air, but age also allows perspective. Just because you're short and can't see over the wall, doesn't mean the view ahead (and behind) isn't lovely

To be honest, timing the boxed release together with this major expansion's release without giving the time (a few weeks) to clean-up the major functionality and connectivity issues was a severe planning mistake.
If I wouldn't have known this game's history any better, I would have returned the box right away.

Its not that we don't see it for what it is now, its that currently its the best its every been, yes theres a few post patch issues, but compaired to how bad its been, it's bloody amazing now.
And of course once they've ironed out the bugs again it'l be even better ...

The reason why the Vets always seem so confident, is because we've seen CCP release many major content packages in the past.
We KNOW the first week or two after them is rocky.
We KNOW they will iron out 90% of the bugs/lag in the following 2 weeks.
We KNOW that that a month after the patch, the only "Problems" will be the normal lag in large fleet battles/trade/mission hubs and the normal posts from luddites who don't like change to their game.
The new player will simply look at today, yesterday and tommorrow. If the see/predict problems on all 3, their attention span causes they to whine and cry and throw a temper tantrum.
Sometimes Age DOES bring perspective.

So in other words, the glass is either half empty or half full.
Or in EVE's case, instead of saying "it could be better" you would prefer "it could be worse."
Maybe it's because I'm a programmer that I'm so critical. I'm a perfectionist in my trade. I test and test and test...debug and debug and debug. I provide every possible user input scenario and situation just to see if I overlooked something.
Maybe I'm expecting too much of CCP. But like I said, I'm a programmer and I take pride in the code I write. Does CCP or are they just riding on their customer's blind dedication now? Knowing "we" will always be there for EVE regardless.
So does the emperor have new clothes or is he stark naked?

You've obviously never worked on anything of significance under market pressure if you think its possible to completely regress something as complex as Eve.
