Just wanted to bring up a concern I had about an iPhone game, called Galaxy Empire, that seems to be using IP from Ogame, Eve Online, Star Trek, and others. Maybe they are paying for it, and maybe not. Just thought I would raise awareness, in case they are not. I was looking for a game to play on iPhone, and I saw one that reminded me of Ogame, from when I played a while back. After getting it, I realized it wasn't like Ogame. It is Ogame. The same gameplay style, a lot of the same artwork, and item descriptions. They also use a bit of artwork from Eve Online.
I took some snapshots of the game, with my iPhone (sorry for the small pictures, as iPhone has limited screen real estate). I posted them on Photobucket at http://s1257.photobucket.com/albums/ii512/cosaides/
The Chinese-made game itself is free to play, but they offer micro transactions of "Dark Matter" that can accelerate building and research time, as well as provide additional resources of metal, crystal, and gas.
Anyway, this is just an FYI, in case CCP's legal team wants to get involved. I hate IP pirates. |

Personly I have mixed feelings about "IP", I think in many cases it's fine when credit is given, and if the "content" or product isn't just a copy... if the product is inspired by... and thus only have some resemblance, I can deal with it :)... but credit must be given.
In this case... it's not okay |

Simply taking someones art and "stuff" outright is a certifiable IP infringement per the original idea.
Yes, it gets abused.

Well, not much ccp can do about it. First off, China has a notorious history of ripping off intellectual property, patent infringement, you name it. Second, chinese govt doesn't enforce these. CCP could try, but nothing would come of it. Let them take the pictures is about all that can happen. |

It has already been explained. They do not need to contact China, They just need to contact Apple, a US based company where copyright infringement is a very serious offense. Apple will remove it from the store and the App will seize to exist. Done and Done. |

The app wont cease to exist, it just wont exist on the Apple store, they could still sell it anywhere else that doesn't notice it infringes copyright or doesn't care

In a thread about IP infringement! I dunno, I found that hilarious.
Anyway, IP is a sticky subject for me too, especially how the US is using it to overreach it's authority (extradition of foriegn citizens, ect), but I do feel it's wrong to steal someone's art and call it your own. Id rather see CCP pressure the developers of the app to remove the offending artwork, rather than get nuked in a BFBVFS. It's not like CCP is under threat of losing rl isk over this. |

Removing it from the Apple Store is as effective as killing it entirely. (Of course if there's an Android version that's another matter entirely.) |

Good call on alerting on this rip-off. It's tough to make a living as an artist or designer (either as an individual or as a company). If you're actually one of the few who get paid to do it, you've probably made plenty of sacrifices along the way to get there. It's crap for somebody to come along and just rip your work off for free, IMO. |

True true! I don't have iPhone, well any apple product actually. So don't actually know how the apps work in terms of getting them. If it is on the app store, that would be quite effective then getting it removed if there are not really any other ways to share or purchase it that is mainstream. |
