Uncommon Cold

The first day of playing Eve, a few weeks back, I quickly decided that ratting, mining and missions were dull and decided to seek out some pvp. I read Skiras guide to being a pirate and followed most of the advice. Set up my ship (an Incursus), safemarks, learned to directional scan. And set off on a long boring journey over several days trying to find someone to attack. I wasn't good at scanning at first and wound up chasing all manner of ghosts. And when I did find someone they were inevitably driving a battlecruiser.
Then, one day, my little directional scanner tells me the asteroid belt I'm pointing myself at has a 'hulk' inside it. I'd tangled with one the day before and almost died to it's drone swarm. But I decided to have another crack, hoping against hope the pilot forgot to pack some in the drone bay.
So I warp in, land about 45km out from the target, and turn on the MWD's. That was when I realised my first mistake. I'd fitted AB's instead. The icons kind of look the same, and I am a newb afterall. So the journey to targeting range is a slow one, and I'm expecting him to warp out any second. Thankfully he does not. This in turn gets me nervous. Why isn't he fleeing? Is he AFK (please, please, please!)? Or is this the hundredth time this month some newb in a frigate has jumped him and he is confident in the ability of his drones to crush me like a fly?
I push on.
Tens of seconds pass and eventually I lock him up, and when the range to target hits 7500m I turn on the warp scrambler. Immediately everything goes to ****. Something flashes red on my overview, a flash of light reduces my ship down to half structure. I try to warp out somewhere. ANYWHERE. But have no chance as my ship explodes. Whatever killed me took three seconds to do it. I quickly warp to my safemark to prevent being podded, and the only thought going through my head is "WTF just happened?!". The only thing I could think of was the Hulk had a buddy cloaked nearby.
Then I checked the combat log and discovered I'd been killed by the Gallente Navy. I'd been hunting in 0.6 space.

First concord I ever saw was 2 days after i started. A friend of mine (who started 3 days before me) accidentally targeted one on my drones and fired. Funniest thing I ever saw. We still aren't sure how he managed it.

This happens a lot. Used to live in 0.0 all the time, never came into high sec. First time i did found an afk mastadon on the gate. Opened fire, then realised it was 0.5 and concord vaporised my drake. Was a laugh though. Something just as fail is jumping into high sec with a battleship with a -8 sec status......done that twice

Good luck on finding something tasty soon.

My first comedy CONCORD loss was, unfurtunately, a little bit bigger.
I was in a gang in Amarr space. We had set a bait-trap for a WT gang in the next system; we had an alliance-mate in a well-tanked Abbadon jump into their camp, get aggresed, and we were all supposed to come in from another gate and stomp them. About half of us had remote reps fit so we could keep our bait from getting popped. It was a perfect plan; we had the numbers, the element of surprise, and game mechanics on our side.
Well, perfect until you put your point on your bait ship instead of a remote rep.
Since he was only an alliance member, not in my corp, and we were in hiSec, my Megathron got CONCORDed. It was my first, and for a long time only, battleship loss.
We still won the fight, but our losses were heavier than they would have been had I not been a noob. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Good read.
First day I got a SB I went into Low sec (Im an High sec War Dec griefer normaly), and just sat near a belt with reasonable ore in a system not often patroled by the local pirate corp (mean).
Sure enough after a short time a "miner" turns up to ... well mine. (And Im not going to call him a carebear, cos hes at least got the eggs to go to low sec). I close in on him, uncloak lock and open up. Not much of a fight, but I fillup my cargo bay with his fittings and take some ore just to fill the space. And warp to the gate to get back to Empire....

Heh, we've all done stupid things. For me it was when I got into stealth bombers. Cloaking ships ftw. I got into one, killed a few rats in an asteroid belt in Tash-Murkon Prime, and then cloaked a bit away so I could decloak when some hapless wreckthief came to loot my wrecks. And after a while someone did come! A punisher approached my wrecks, took from them, and was flashy red. I decloaked, target, fired - and bam!
I shot a hulk's can and got a visit from Concord. --- Wtf happened to my sig now? |

Great read, though I still think I deserve the Darwin Award for my truly epic failure...
Back in my early days, when I had just learned to fly a rupture, I was flying around in lowsec killing rats, and suddenly another cruiser enters the belt. I was still a kind soul back then so I didn't think he would kill me without any reasons... Well, I ended up being in a pod...
Weeks later, I was running around in highsec, cause I was still scared to go into lowsec, and I come across the same dude, this time in a hauler, and I still had kill rights on him, so I quickly dock and fit my rupture for pvp and he's still there. I get a lock on him and just as I click my point, I get blown to pieces... I missed the kill right by seconds
