... but I'm bored to death possibly for the first time in 4 years. I have been making a living with exploration for the past couple years in 0.0, got maxed skills and the right gear. I have loved the new probing interface up to now, but I just recently hit a boredom threshold. I logged in a wormhole system a couple days ago because I wanted to keep exploring it and I had the right gear to find my way out (sisters launcher, sisters deepspace and core probes, implants, cov ops etc). Now I really wish I'd left.
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the new expansion or my situation- it is exactly what was promised bu the devs, and honestly I'm a big fan of the hardcore nature of Eve. But just now after logging in for 2 days and failing to scan an exit WH (after scanning 22 other sigs including what appear to be top end radar, mag, ladar and grav sites).. I just had that sensation that so far I've never experienced in Eve: meh, I'm bored.. I think I'll go do something else.
I'm not an impatient person, I once scanned for 2 days straight to nail down a large ark/bist/mercoxit belt for the corp to mine... but the new probing system, while straightforward, requires JUST ENOUGH focus to become tedious. Do I have a suggestion for improvement? I don't know.. make the exit wormholes easier to find somehow? That seems to contradict everything that W-space was supposed to be. Hell I WANT it to be hard there.. I guess I'm only writing because I just got that feeling (for the first time in 4 years) that you get right before you retire a well loved game and move on.
This isn't a quitting thread. You can't have my stuff. I'm not whining, so no I don't need any cheese to go with that. I'm just wondering if any other people out there who love the game have had a similar experience?
To all the forum twits that are gonna cry about this post, go to hell in advance : )

I had the same just with regular pvp. This stuff sometimes happens, go do something else or start on a new profesion. Eventually you might like exploration again ones time passes. Good luck with the boredom period.

This happens to me in EVE about every six months. I've learned to just set some long training skills, play some other games I've been neglecting, focus on my non-game projects, and so forth. Usually in less than a couple weeks (once, two months) I'll wake up of a morning with EVE on my mind and an enthusiastic idea for something I want to do in game. Then, it's back to the races.
Specifically as to the probing in w-space, I haven't had a boredom issue yet. I really enjoy it. ------------------ Ironfleet.com |

it happens in RL and in EVE, I used to run missions, but got bored of that, stepped back from the computer and joined a nullsec corp/alliance and have rediscovered the passion for the game that I once had, and when I get bored again (it has happened) I go off and do something else in game... And the same happens in real life, when you grind out a career you will eventually get bored and wish you could go back and change...so find something else to do, run some missions to get out of the daily (or however often you play) grind. Rediscover the love, for afterall eve has endless posibilites and scope.

Yeah, I've not played properly for about 4 weeks myself, only logged in for an hour here and there once or twice.
I still way OTT forum ***** though.
Unfortunately Apocrypha has really put me off Eve and has made it a lot easier for me to give it up for a while, for the most part probably because I really hate a good portion of the new sounds and effects and partly because of all the new bugs I was dealing with.
At least wormholes are great, but like you, although normally I'm a very patient person, I can't find the motivation at the moment. I went scanning a few times looking for wormholes and all too soon was "meh, whats the point".
I'm in one of those phases where I'm completely disinterested in profit and kills.
I decided in the end I'll try to give it a good go in about another 2 months.
if you disagree with me then you should probably post a response and stop reading my signature. |

You don't quit eve, you take a short break. And well maybe find another game you like and play some less eve for a while. <SIG> I bought the wife a toy Deimos to have fun with while i play eve!

Im lucky enough that I'm involved socially in this game to the point that boredom does not exist.
I remember back when I first came to EVE and didn't know anyone that I used to get bored after running missions for a while... At that point I would either go shoot things or log for a while and do something else. |

Sounds to me like you are just in what I like to call an 'eve bleh moment'. I get these every 6 months or so. I just find other things to do and eventually the game starts calling again.

There are ways to determine which signatures are wormholes. Perhaps you should use them and not get stuck probing at random.

I'm aware of that. Have you tried probing out 15 overlapping sigs within 1 AU of eachother yet? Because of scan deviation (and I have maxed skills and best equipment) this becomes a very tedious crap shoot.

we need more thingies to do in Eve.
apart from blowing things, stare at yellow lasers striping a rock, right-click games, and chat, what else is available?
the "bleh" is a must...

There must be a rather exciting part of eve that I've been missing : )

Most of the times a WH has a very low strength compared to other signatures, use that in your search for an exit :)
Also; don't narrow down the range on your probes too early/much, it's an easy mistake to make but it doesn't help you.

Thanks for the help guys. This doesn't really become a problem until you are in one of the "deadly" WH space systems with 20+ sigs. Last one I was in had 7 returns below 2% within 1 AU of eachother. Once you get into this situation you'll see what i mean.

AND before you say anything, no those aren't duplicate hits. That's off of one probe : )

Edited by: K''uata Sayus on 17/03/2009 16:34:16 Had trained up exploration skills and realized with Apocrypha it was going to totally change.
When I started the new scanning system it was an interesting challenge, but now I kind of miss the analysis countdown and the slot-machine quality of win or no-win. Even tho I eventually find the site I'm scanning down, I'm competing with a lot more players than before.
Therefore, I'm moving to a system near the 0.0 frontier. Maybe I can get the sense of true exploration back, and shake the "bleh, meh, what's the point" feeling Don Genaro describes.

Completely this!
I play EvE, WAR, LoTR, DAOC, BF2, etc. Why limit yourself to just one game? That in itself is boring as hell.

Thankfully Exams take up far too much of my time to find EVE boring, so I relish the times I am online and am able to contribute something to a fleet (say, a few hours). Although, don't just play EVE on its own, play other games too.
