Cramer vs Stewart
Thought it was a great piece. Cramer was man enough to actually come on the show and not cop out like so many others.
Warning: Explicit Stop, hammer time. |

Cramer did exactly the right thing. Appeared on the show, took his ripping and moved on, while defusing the entire thing. Going against Stewart is like playing a hand of poker with only 3 cards. He can't compete, and he eventually realized that.

and, to the point of the post.
I saw that, its disgusting what goes on, Stewart said what needed to be and Jim took it well and was good enough of a person to be honest about it.
Was a good watch. Stewart ripped jim and CNBC hard. ----

You really need to see the whole lead up to the Cramer v. Stewart battle.
Originally it started with Stewart wtfpwning CNBC (financial news network).
After that Jim Cramer fired back at Stewart so Stewart wtfpwns them again.
So Cramer continued and (bet you can see this coming) Stewart wails on him again.
And so on and so forth.
Stewart rocks! It is years old but look up Jon Stewart kicking Tucker Carlson's balls on Tucker's own show, Crossfire.

Here ya go: Jon Stewart on Crossfire (circa 2004)
Was leaving work and needed a beer. Shoulda posted that before.
Watch the whole thing. IIRC he calls Tucker Carlson a "****" (or something not nice like that) on Tucker's own show :) -------------------------------------------------- "Of course," said my grandfather, pulling a gun from his belt as he stepped from the Time Machine, "there's no paradox if I shoot you!"

Most people are saying Stewart won, but did he really? Stewart's ranting and constant attacks towards Cramer (an invited guest) was the entire 'interview.' We got no kind of insight into anything Cramer thought since he was constantly on the defense. Cramer was clearly out of his comfort zone and was downright conciliatory. Frankly, Stewart came across as an *******.

if Stewert was a reporter i'd say that was the worst, 1-sided shamocrity of an interview since bill o'reilly learned to scream. that said, he isn't a reporter.
He is a comedian. No matter how serious the topic and how 'real' and serious they may address an issue, the business of the Daily Show is to make a good show. Not report on anything, not inform you or teach you or make you think, just to entertain.
Will that involve John being funny? Will that involve John pandering to his guest and lobbing easy questions over the fence? Will that involve John being a **** and chewing a guy out? No one knows until we watch... one thing you can be sure of, you'll hear exactly what they think you want to hear... ---------- "This is Chopper Dave's made for TV movie, Blades Of Vengeance. But that's exactly what he's criticizing the other guys show for, geez. It was the most hypocritical attack I've ever seen. It's like criticizing a ****ographer for misrepresenting the realities of sex! -- Distortion| Distortion 2 Preview |

Yeah, but he's on a comedy show on a station called comedy central. He's not pretending to be a major news outlet, advertising that his channel has the pulse on wallstreet trading and all the hottest economic news etc etc.... They ARE.
This is the exact same argument as when Stewert and O'reilly went at it. You are correct in that it would appear Stewert is criticizing someone for doing what he admittedly does himself. The difference is, (and what keeps him from straying into hypocrisy) is, HE ISN"T REALLY A JOURNALIST AND THE DAILY SHOW ISN'T REALLY A NEWS SHOW!)
Kramer has every right to be entertaining on his show. However, if he also wants to be considered an economic strategist, stock guru, whatever the hell he likes to be called he needs to be prepared to get his ass chewed out when he (and everyone else just like him) fails to see the bigger picture / gives bad advise / whatever other terrible call was made in past 2 months.
Kramer realizes this and that's why he went on the show and took it like a man. Is it fair? You bet it is. Is it a bit disingenuous to see Jon Stewert act the role he did and get all holier than thou? At first glance maybe but when you look closer not really.
What i saw was 2 entertainers. One of them IS an entertainer and plays an entertainer on television. The other IS an entertainer and plays a trusted financial analyst on television. One can be criticized for lack of foresight and passing out bad advise, the other can not. ---------- "This is Chopper Dave's made for TV movie, Blades Of Vengeance. Been waiting to see this moment for a while, it's pretty painful, but a necessary evil imho.
It's a sad time when the only good news you get is from a comedy news program

I disagree Hank. While Stewart might be packaged as Comedy he reports on real news, and surveys have shown that more people take what he says as gospel than do the same with the major news channels. That gives him the same responsibility as Cramer.
And seriously, who could take that commercial at face value? It was OBVIOUSLY tounge in cheek. I'd say it's in pretty much the same style as a lot of Stewart's stuff.
Maybe you think it's different, but I'm nowhere near convinced. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not a fan of Cramer either. I don't watch his show, and have only seen him in commercials and flipping through channels. I don't know his history...he could be wrong here, I just don't think Stewarts reasons for him being wrong are correct.
Not to mention everyone runs around going "Stewart, Stewart, rah rah rah!" instead of going, "Wow, Stewart's team of 16 writers are really good." I mean has anyone, like me, watched Stewarts comedy pre-daily show? It was mediocre at best. The man is overrated, although admittedly great at making funny faces at the camera. His writers are top-notch tho. -- Distortion| Distortion 2 Preview |

When will people learn, never **** off a comedian!
This reminded me of the day when John McCain cancelled on Lettermen. Through out the whole show David just dropped bombs on McCain and it was gold.
I personally think that the Daily Show and the Colbert Report are a middle ground between comedy/satire and news. They take real events/stories and put a great spin on them. Both shows are a wonderful mix of intelligent humor and absurdity.
As far as the writers go, they need to pump out 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week plus specials. No one comedian could do that. Even Chris Rock had writers for his show on HBO. A stand up comic that goes out and does an hour long show has a long time to develop that show and it is the same show for a long time. Stewart contributes and takes what his writers come up with and turns it into gold. That in itself is a skill a lot of comedians don't have.
