Due to the nature of skill training in eve, i will probably be more tempted to keep an active subscription if at a certain point i find i am bored or another (non subscription game) catches my attention. I cant therefore predict how long ill play Eve.
It also depends on competition, and there is none in the horizon. None i can see, at least.

I will probably be here until EVE sunsets.
I keep a teddy bear in my pod with me. A teddy bear with sharp teeth, massive claws, and a pinache for eating the flesh of podded corpses. I call him "Fuzzy". |

Edited by: flummox on 17/08/2004 18:45:55 yeah. probably until the official servers shutdown. but, then i'll be buying the rights to this game and then i'll be playing FlummoxOnline: Mekalekahi Mekahyneeho. subscription fees will be simply to donate your old computer husks and network gear so i can build a huge server. hopefully, in 2012 AD, with all your extra computer donated, i could concievably have a small server for each region. maybe, if you guys are crazy enough, we can dig through the old equipment have a crappy computer to run each system!
anyways. enjoy your time on EVE now and wait for FlummoxOnline... TL13 here i come!
there is a fine, but dissasterous line between a fart and a shart. i suggest you make sure which side you want to be on... |

My subscription ends 09/09/04 and I've completely lost faith in this game, the developers, and the direction they are taking Eve.
Patches aren't being released with sufficient bug-testing, the patches aren't fixinf bugs in the correct priority, and the main selling point of Eve, PVP, sucks majorly.
I seriously doubt I'll be playing much longer.

How could you "fix" pvp in a way effective enough to keep you or anyone else playing?
I'm only getting my first tastes of (proper) pvp now so I can't comment.

Until WoW or Guild Wars comes out if they don't fix the rediculous lab situation that punishes new players and denies them a large portion of the advertised game.

I feel the same way. Although I'm gonna wait untill the unbalance-patches arrive, then I can atleast hang out and have some fun with my corp m8s.

Step 1 would be to stop nerfing all the weapons.

If I knew how to fix PvP I'd be Oveur
He's my one shining ray of hope for this game and I hope his new baby-dev doesn't distract him too much from the game.
PvP is hard to fix because if you make it too easy to recover and the alliance wars are infinite and, eventually, very boring. Conversely, make it too hard to recover and nobody will dare to take their implants into space.
Something needs to be done to force people from building up in one system, something needs to make losing a conq. station more costly (but that, no doubt, would cause more blobbing up as alliances seek to cut the cost of losing a conq. station).
I dunno - the method of pvp itself is a limiting factor and thats why I have very little hope for it being fixed.

That's really it in a nutshell and the proper "fix" is probably non-existant. The problem is there really is no balance point. What is tolerable recovery for one is totally intolerable to someone else. You have diehard players and casual players. You have grognards in EVE and carebears and never the twain shall meet. Whatever CCP chooses they are bound to **** off some significant portion of the EVE community.
The ultimate root problem lies in no one wanting to play a game they ôloseö at. Certainly no one wants to pay money to lose. While there is no strict win or lose in EVE certainly people can tell if they are doing well or poorly. So MMOGÆs have to allow everyone to advance and never really get hit too hard. They would lose massive amounts of players if it took someone a month or more to recover every time something went wrong for them.
Seems to me the only hope is to shift ôlosingö to alliances. I mean really let an alliance lose while the individual players can continue on. Then you get a potential sense of accomplishment while not drastically affecting individuals. As it stands two alliances can currently war endlessly if one, despite being on the ôlosingö side, chooses to continue indefinitely for spiteÆs sake.
Not sure how that all gets fixed and if POS (and Shiva more broadly) will be a step in that direction or no help. Still, I have put a lot into EVE so I am willing to stick it out a bit longer and see what Shiva all adds up to.
