a simple question, many MMORPGs die after a year, i dont think EVE is going to, with shiva coming soon... ahem... and a few more expansions after that planned, or so i heard, i just wonder how much longer do you guys think you will play this game?
for me, i will play at least till christmas, first to see how good shiva is and thats the end of my current 6 month subscription.
/edit forgot to put this in the original, ive never played a game for more than 18 months, so i guess thats probly the maximum i will be playing this one too (that is 14 more months from now) but EVE could be something special, that gets me hooked for longer...

Friend this game is just coming out of testing. Back a time players where mad that they where paying testers. Well it all worked out and now we have our space game.

You mean you have yet to learn the joys of endless mining? that's what gets me playing a sad need to mine forever. I am hoping that in SHIVa the roids start to look more like Attractive women to break up the tedium.... well, I suppose the crashes to desktop since the last patch do that too, Seriously I reckon it's a mathematical formula - (amount of fun)-(Annoyance with CCP X number of CTD)- (Days till Middle Earth Online starts)x(number of skill points)

i lie it will be either when soloing in eve is gone (could be soon) or when middle earth online comes out.
Eh if im forced out by nerfs il go play planetside again, If the nerf bat thinks people will stay when theres so much choice its infor 1 massive shock.

CCP had said 3rd Quarter 2004 but now it looks like November at the earliest and don't be too surprised if that slips.
For me continued playing will depend on the severity of the missile nerf and how Shiva works. I figure EVE has till about Christmas for me at which time I will re-evaluate. Ever***** II should be out by then as well so might have somewhere else to go.

anyways. enjoy your time on EVE now and wait for FlummoxOnline... TL13 here i come!

My subscription ends 09/09/04 and I've completely lost faith in this game, the developers, and the direction they are taking Eve.
Patches aren't being released with sufficient bug-testing, the patches aren't fixinf bugs in the correct priority, and the main selling point of Eve, PVP, sucks majorly.
I seriously doubt I'll be playing much longer.

He's my one shining ray of hope for this game and I hope his new baby-dev doesn't distract him too much from the game.
PvP is hard to fix because if you make it too easy to recover and the alliance wars are infinite and, eventually, very boring. Conversely, make it too hard to recover and nobody will dare to take their implants into space.
Something needs to be done to force people from building up in one system, something needs to make losing a conq. station more costly (but that, no doubt, would cause more blobbing up as alliances seek to cut the cost of losing a conq. station).
I dunno - the method of pvp itself is a limiting factor and thats why I have very little hope for it being fixed.

Dunno. Eve is a secondary game to me. One that I play from time to time to do something different between marathon EverQuest (my primary game) runs. EverQuest 2 will probably also eat away at my Eving time, but I probably wouldn't cancel. Unless a better space faring online game shows up.

My guess is if "Shiva" is not jawdroppingly fantastic and here quick-smart there is going to be a huge turnover in the playerbase, I Don't think it will be the end of EVE but it wont be something EVE will recover from.

IMO nothing beats EVE, and I consider it highly unlikely anything will even come close to the enjoyement EVE brings me in the near future. Nothing is certain, but today I'd say I'll be here till there no longer is a here.

Imho, the game is at it's peek atm. But that's just me, call me an optimist mebe and it's only gonna get better from this point on. U could say I'm still playing cause of the time spent already playing. It's great being with a community for over a year, knowing all about it and seeing it develop itself.
Mebe I should buy an Aquarium ...

Not renewing any of my 3 accounts - game is dead in the water atm and if shiva is, as castor was then I feel sorry for the new comers.

Hope Im proved wrong but just feel that the game isnt going anywhere fast atm . (Not a flame just my opinion)

I have only quit because I could no longer play in the time I had paid for. I only see myself not playing if that happens again. Eve is the only mmorpg where you can afford to go afk for a month and still hold some ability to play. It's also avoids the niche that 90% of the modern mmorpgs hold where they force you to play every day for 6 hours at the least to stay at a level where you won't be a useless piece of Gou shi. I like my social life, it's purdy!

Too many skills, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy too long train. Then once they are trained and you get some benefit they nerf it.
The devs need to think more and do less...or at the very least think before they do.

The weirdest thing is that if you do quit the game, you find yourself drawn back to forums every once in a while and eventually you realise that the faults you perceived werent as bad as you thought, its only ~ú10 a month and promises so much for the future...until something better (thats space based) comes along there isnt any way im leaving again.
The other thing about eve is that unlike freelancer, privateer or elite there is no end-game, there will always be new stuff to buy/destroy and there is no one setup that can defeat everything (i hope).
On a similar topic, how would any other space-based MMORPG 'work' better than eve? So far all the major problems i've seen in my 1+ year playing are endemic to the balance between pve and pvp and so would apply to all MMORPG's unless they neglected one aspect. Well for me, my account subscription runs out some time in September and it wont be renewed. Ive come and gone about 5 times now since launch and come back hoping i can enjoy it but every time I do I realise its still the same old thing...boring. Just my opinion.

hey thanks for all the response, i see there are still a lot of hardcore fans to keep the game going for a while yet.
but since i started this thread, i guess im kind of entitled to hi-jack it too... those of you who are quitting, any chance i can have a disabled account with some decent sp? I'm finding it increasingly tempting to get an alt, and i dont want to make it from scratch.

The game mechanics at times can be frustrating but then I guess all games online or single player have their obvious flaws.
What Eve has that goes beyond this is the community. Players of all types, nations, races and sex all wrapped into a united blanket called Eve.
Most of who appreciate what Eve has to offer and take enjoyment from it on a daily basis.
In the 14 months Eve has gone from strength to strength and I can see it continuing to do so.
Like one person said above 'It is only when you leave that you realise the issues are not as bad as you thought!'
