I was thinking about creating an alt just to run missions. I have never rolled an Amarr char and was thinking of creating one just to build him towards running L4 missions. A friend told me Amarr really suck at mission running and I should use a Caldari. Anyone have any opinions about this?
Thanks |

Race of character is irrelevant. As far as ships go Amarr ships do ok in missions against blood raiders, sansha and drones and are very unsuitable for missions against angels. Caldari is somewhat more universal altho peak effectivity would be under Amarr peak effectivity against abovementioned 3 optimal opponents.
In the end it would be sensible to train them both and use proper tool for max effectivity in whatever mission you get.

For a dedicated mission running character, Amarr ships are probably the best to train for. Pick an Amarr agent in Amarr space and you'll get plenty of missions against EM-weak opponents and plow through them.
Caldari ships are good all-around mission runners, but just keep in mind that missile boats are eye-stabbingly boring to fly.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

caldari is the best mission running race. they are the best because they can adapt to any faction by just switching missles and resist. thus you can run for anyone easily.
other races can achive higher dps...but with missles you dont have the headaches of range and tracking and what not. with my raven the optimal is 0-152 km with rails for example longer range means switching ammo or getting targets in range and with BS guns tracking frigs at 5-10 km doing 300 m/s can be an issue . missles you dont have all that headache.

I have also a caldari mission running alt.
I am still missing some drone skills, but with torpedos golem cuts through NPCs like warm butter. I admid that golem is far away from a new character, but it ****ing owns when you get it.
*your caldari navy mjornir torpedo hits <insert npc here> for 2000+ damage* ---

Edited by: Dyre on 18/03/2009 15:41:21 Edited by: Dyre on 18/03/2009 15:39:03 Whenever you ask a question like this about missioning you will get swarmed by Achuras in CNRs telling you that caldari is your only hope.
The Cult of Caldari was formed by two very simple things that came together in a catastrophic way...
First, you have a generation of MMO gamers who were spoiled by FAQs, item databases, walkthroughs and other such crutches in every game they have played.
Second, you have a group of very nicely written guides for eve which the above mentioned gamers devoured voraciously. The biggest problem with following them religiously today is that certain details have become outdated by changes to the game.
The Character guide tell them to roll Achura for the stat balance. (no longer means a thing with the new character creation system)
The Miner's guide tells them to roll Caldari for the Osprey. (No longer relevant as everyone mines in barges, exhumers)
The Mission runner's guide tells them to roll caldari because missiles can change their damage type, don't miss, and have lower skill reqs and no player skill reqs. (This is partially outdated, the signature and blast radius changes mean that while big missiles don't miss small ships, they don't really do damage to them either, and missiles have become much more character skill intensive, still no player skill required tho)
Sadly, we have a large chunk of players who still consider the ideas in the above texts to be canonic and will feverently defend their dogma to the end, as should be well exampled by the flaming I'm about to receive.
Advice from a Minmatar who can fly anything:
Race choice: If you are planning on training the alt for a decent amount of time... Pick what you like the looks of or have the most affinity to storyline wise. Your starting skills are a drop in the bucket unless you are absolutely set on getting the total training time on the character to a minimum.
Ship choice: Depends on what you want out of your alt...
Mission running in same region of space that your main currently inhabits: check out the rats you will be facing and choose a race with good ships vs them, usually the race that controls the area...
Fast missions with less hassles of ninja looters: Amarr, Amarr ships running Amarr missions are super fast and easy.
AFK missioning alt for background income while you play your main: Gallente with good drone skills. Overtank a drone ship, get full aggro, release drones, switch back to your main... tab back over every once in a while to see if you it's time to loot.
Fun highly interactive character while your main afk mines in the background: Minmatar... missioning in Minnie ships is as close to being fun as missioning gets.
Roaming mission character they wants to get all faction standings positive or just don't know what you will be facing: Caldari, this is where the missiles shine. they don't do great damage to anyone, but they can do very good damage to everyone.

I am a caldari. Achura. I have a CNR and golem. But if I was starting over, I would be gallante. The domni is a beast, has far far more utility than the caldari, can deal every damage in the game with their drones(their weapons,) and can tank like crazy.
My favorite way to run level 4's in a domni is to warp in, release drones, and go afk to watch a movie/do chores. With a CNR or golem, you have to tp, target, and tell the launchers to fire :p

except a few patches down the road the AI of mission npcs will be more like sleepers. so dont pick gallente over the other race based on the fact they can afk mission grind.
the reasons i like caldari for missions( i can fly gallente and minny as well) isnt because i got it out of the some reoprt/guide/site. Its because ive done missions in gallente and minny and i ran thousands of missions for all 5 empire races and i will fly back to caldari space to pick up my hawk/drake/raven rather than run in a different race type.
i have decent hybrid skills mostly level 3s in everything... i still get tracking problems and then i have to worry about coming into range.
with other races you are going to need good drone skills and good gunnery skills. Missles still arent nearly as skill intensive. you dont have to worry so much about range pretty much if you can lock it you can kill it with cruises unless you put a bunch of sensor boosters on your ship. and you dont get misses. missles are guaranteed hits they may hit for reduced damage on small moving targets but " your 450 mm prototype rail gun barely misses sansha beast" gets a tad bit annoying when it could be "your paradise cruise missle hits sansha beast for 143 damage"

Thanks for the valuable feedback. I think I am going to roll an Amarr and spend some time training him then just have him run missions in Amarr space.
