Namche Bazaar Minmatar ORIGIN SYSTEMS	Posted - 2009.03.18 11:18:00 - [1] Hey guys :) I'm new to EVE and been playing with my character for about a month now, I'm wondering when i should upgrade my ship? i currently have a Minmatar Rifter and have 95% of the recommended certificate skills for it and also alot of the certificate skills for the Rupture but i wanted some advise on when its best to go from frigates to cruisers, any suggestions? TimMc Gallente The Black Rabbits The Gurlstas Associates	Posted - 2009.03.18 11:20:00 - [2] When you got the isk and getting bored of level 1s, go for cruisers and level 2s. Doesn't take much SP to fly a cruiser or a frigate, but don't think its easy to jump into a BS.

Your time for an upgrade should be dictated by what you do in the game, not by any artificial timeline. If you do PvP in gangs, you can stick with the Rifter for months or years if you want. If you're running missions, then the Ruppy is a good upgrade for going to L2's, then the Hurricane for L3's, etc. Oh, and don't waste your time on certificates now that you've played for a little bit. Get something like EVEMon and EFT, and pick your skills based on the ship you want to fly and the modules you want to equip on it - those two programs together will help you get there without worrying about certificates. These two go hand in hand. You want to upgrade from a frigate to a cruiser when you can afford to lose a cruiser as consistently as you feel it is likely to be lost. On L2 missions that should be very rarely so simply having one rupture to fly in and another sitting in station as a backup should be all you need (and the skills to fit/fly it). If you want to fly PVP you will want to have at least a half dozen sitting in reserve all fully fitted and ready to go, as well as better skills if possible (although you should not sit in station bored and spinning just because you do not have every level 5 that you planned out in evemon yet).
