The EVE client causes some corruption to memory. Logging out of your current OSX user and back in will fix it, you don't need to reboot.
There also appears to be some sort of memory leak, which if you play for long enough will cause the client to crash and generally it wont work properly again unless you log out/back in..
This has always been the case, and it somewhat annoying, I imagine on a system with less memory it would be even worse.. If it's any consolation some of these error come up on the windows client as well :p

What I and Socialist Fish reported (and I am still experiencing) is not a time-based phenomenon. We're not on longer than 15-30 seconds before a crash. If a memory leak were at fault I'd understand if I left the client open for 15 hours and saw a slow, steady degradation in performance.
This is a catestrophic failure of the entire application after mere seconds. It started for me shortly after the first small patch after the main apocrypha update.
I put in a petition but checking for it today, it was no longer there. No emails, nothing. So I put it in again. Will try a lil longer then have to cancel 2 accounts and kiss tons of training/assets/fun good bye. Not paying for a game that no longer works.

Hell people can't even get it to run with out crashing using Vista/XP/XP-64, how do you expect it to run on Cider? Eve is a rude & cruel, portion of the universe, so before you quit,

You're using an unsupported OS.
From here.
Minimum System Requirements:
* The client does not run on a PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Macintosh Machines (PowerMac). MacBook laptops are also not supported nor the Mac Mini. * Supported hardware is MacBook Pro laptops, Mac Pro machines and iMacs. All these machines have to meet the following minimum requirements below: * CPU: Intel based computer with CPU speed equal or greater than 1.8GHz * OS: OS X 10.5.6 or later. --

I found out about this a little after I posted but thank you. I'm upgrading today and keeping my fingers crossed.

I also get the OP's problem on a late 2007 macbook pro running the latest version of leopard. Logging out and logging in again fixes it.
I have seen the pure virtual function call issue too on this macbook but its much less annoying - tends to happen when exiting the game.

Upgrading to leopard has taken care of bugs and graphical glitches, but I still get the virtual memory error all of the time. I used to never get it before.
Is there some type of cache I can lower or raise in order to prevent this?
Also, I already have 2 gigs of ram in this thing which is the highest the old mac book pros support.

Virtual memory error? What error is that? If your virtual memory footprint for EvE rises constantly up to more than about 3.7 GB that is a memory leak, but not a virtual memory error. It's actual memory allocations that are leaked (unless you found something completelly new).

My Mac Pro is running 12GB of RAM and I get kicked out of the game a lot - sometimes right after login, sometimes during the initial character selection screen. Also receiving the unhandled exception error. If it's leaking through 12GB that fast, there's a serious design flaw with this application. |

Most programs cannot address more than 4GiB of memory no matter how much RAM you have. They must fit into those 4GiB all the program code, program data, shared system code&data etc. If they try to allocate more than that ... they'll get an out of memory/out of address space condition.
More RAM only means you can run more programs at the same time without swapping to disk, not that a single program can access more memory (exception been programs compiled for 64 bit native execution).
The leaking we have seen seems to be related to a system driver bug. And it will not leak in a short time, but slowly leak memory up to the point the program witll crash with "out of memory" debug entries in the log.
Besides there are SEVERAL problems right now and those you are experiencing may be unrelated to the leak.
The OP wrote something about a virtual memory error. But I'm not sure what he means by "virtual memory error". I'd love him to be more specific.
Unhandled exceptions ... there also are many of these. Illegal instructions, illegal address reference, calls to unimplemented pure methods, all of these have been spotted in EvE/Cider (of course there can be many more situations that generate an exception, but the above are the ones I've seen or seen reported on these forums).
After a crash it MAY be the system is unstable. Logout and back in (and in some cases a reboot) MAY improve you experience after a crash. When this happens there's a hight chance (almost a certainty) that there's not only a problem with EvE or Cider but also a problem with OsX or a driver.

My EVE client still doesn't crash unless I quit the program.
Other than that I've had no crashes or problems of a memory related issue.
Supposedly running the same computer as the OP.
Post specs OP....
You people really need to start posting specs when you have problems.... oey.

Lol, Drake. Not sure what machine you have a problem keeping cool, but given your previus posts about what you think the temperature should be, I guess you best bet would be to move to Iceland in winter, and norther than that in summer
