Edited by: GavTheMighty on 18/08/2004 11:59:10 This has been one of many posts I have seen from when EVE started its not a rant its quite simply something CCP seems to be ignoring in the game and from players who bring the subject up every now and then so here goes AGAIN:
Can you please implement some plans to use social skill? Add more social skills, and make the Charisma stat of some use for crying out loud???? Its been like this from the start of the game its all well and good adding all these nice social skill but then when most of them dont work its not very usefull???
Its becoming a sore point because everyother Attribute in the game is of real use except this one! Anyone else noticed how most people state there attributes and the lowest one is always Charisma? I simply think either use the Attribute especially for all the people that liked it and bumped it up or get rid of it all together!
Wont be surprised if the thread gets locked since lately noticed these forums dont like any remarks about the failure of CCP to actually make some improvements that have been asked about for over a year now!!!!
Anyway guys and gals let me know what you think? Myabe its coz no one cares and Im on my own on this one??? But Im tired of having that 5th mysterious Attribute the one that does nothing!!!!! (Yes Charisma)

Detention for you :)
I have all the social skills and I thought they worked ...at least they show in the info on agents ?
Do you mean more than Connections, Fast Talk (might not work ), Criminal Connections, Social and Negioations and Diplomacy?
Fast talk I admit I have no idea on....maybe its never worked ?
The others appear to work ..?
But what of the Trade skill .....now thats got dust on it an inch thick
So I guess I need to know for sure those that dont work and those that do .....No doubt someone will enlighten me

BTW Intelligence 17 Perception 16 Charisma 17 Willpower 18
So charisma is a attribute I could use more I guess ...I notice the Gunnery specialisation skills use will power :)

so is Diplomacy finally fixed? :-) or is it still broken? :-(
what about the trade skills? (charisma related, too) they were promised so long ago. (in beta) they are still not implented. the only one (trade) that has an effect is broken and brings you more cost instead of lowering your costs.
but i stop my complaining here, since the holy forum policy forbidds complaining or stating obvious facts. |

Boneca looks at the new skills added to the skills list in this latest update realises they are perception and willpower based skills AGAIN and sighs as she looks at her charisma lvl.
Charisma needs a Concord health warning "choosing this attribute will be detrimental to your development"

They work for me... many of the social skills require you to do one mission for the corp in question and then skills like connections kicks in.
I roleplay... there is this computer game called "Earth - The First Genesis" where i play a character in the early 21st century. |

All social skills are usefull (chiefly for agent runners) and all social skills work as they should. Period.
About the 'more skills for charisma': social/corporation and trade skills have char as primary - once they are all in you have 3 trees of skills to learn. I know why high willpower peeps are mourning, but charisma ones... --------------

I happen to be at 23 in Charisma right now, with most of the social and leadership skills trained fairly high. I chose this before I understood the mechanics of the game, and found agent running fit my motif quite well, so there wasn't an issue (even if some of my corpmates before me have higher skill points).
I may be wrong, but i think if you have those leadership skills pumped up a ways, you can be a deciding factor in an even engagement. Am i right? I don't have much fleet experience.
Which social skills aren't working btw? I know there was a short period where diplomacy was taking over, but otherwise, all seemed well.
Also, the problem with social skills in this game is that alot of it depends on the person playing the character, especially when interacting in an online game with/against other people; There's right and wrong ways to deal with other people . It's hard to implement rules and bonuses in a game with limited npc interaction, and the best we could hope for is more interaction with npcs(like agents or even faction heads), and maybe some more market, leadership skills. I can also see how something like memory or intelligence would be more useful though...

Trade Barter Black Market
All skills either I, or my sisters started out with ages ago.
Same with Biology ... an interesting looking skill on paper, until you realize nothing's in the pipe for implementing anything its good for yet.
But then again, I had cybernetics trained up long before the skill hit the market.

Nope.
Case in point: I have Negotiation at level 3, and should receive a 15% bonus to mission rewards. OK, last mission said I should receive 34,000 credits. If the bonus is added beforehand, that translates to a base reward of 34000/1.15 = 29,565, a very unlikely number. So, we conclude the Negotiation bonus is added after the mission completes.
At the end of the mission, I check my wallet, and the reward cash transaction is for 34,000. Ah, but maybe it adds it without showing it?No: The new total minus my old total equals to the collateral return and the 34,000 reward.
Conclusion: Negotiation does not work.

Yes the standings increase shows in your profile but it does not have any effect on such things as refining at that station, the standing shows the unaltered standing

ya but it tricks people. The manual and the game say, oh if u want to be a good trader invest points into Charisma. Sure enough its just a waste. I know it might get better, but i think CCP jumped the gun in skills and many other things in this game. And as reported negotiation ( a simple skill) doesnt work either.
