Hey all,
I plan on training up to a fleet command ship. I'll mainly be using it for missioning with a partner (who will be doing the tanking). I'll be adding dps, running the gang links, and basically there as support.
I'll most likely be using a combination of siege and skirmish links. Up till now, all my skills have gone to mining and related tasks. So, I'm pretty much a clean-slate as far as skills go. I have level 3 in Min frigates and 1 level in small projectiles, but that's it. As you can see, I don't have much training invested so I can go any direction.

The Nighthawk is probably the best choice, missiles are ideal for missions, and it has an awesome passive tank as well. If you prefer guns, the Sleipnir is another good choice, it will do more DPS than the Nighthawk, but for missions I would suggest stick with missiles.

Nighthawk? Fleet Command Ship? Eh, get out.
Vulture is the way to go.

If your only purpose is to help on missions, a battleship is a much better choice. Gang links are very nice for larger gangs, but for missions a BS with 1k DPS would be much more helpful.
They're also a lot cheaper (to replace), and are more practical in a small scale pvp sense.
That said, if you really want a fleet command for any reason, damnation or vulture depending on what kind of tank your friend runs.

All fleet commands are essentials
but
Eos sucks other then hiding in a safe spot blaring bonus's and rep-botting poeple.
Vulture has awsome tank and can fit warp-stabs to get out regen a bit and go straight back in meat-shielding.
Damnation is pure sexual trimark

Train for Orca then... (No kidding) If you're pro miner, it'll only take a day, week at worst to get into one. -- Thanks CCP for cu |

Already have an orca, just got it in fact. Now I'm planning out my next long-term goal. Running 3 gang links looks good, so I was attracted to the fleet commands.
Just trying to decide on which one.
How much does that 3% per level gang link bonus actually effect things?

It helps more the more people you have :)

Vulture is the way to go.
He is missioning, the extra DPS from the nighthawk will help, since he is only commanding a fleet of 2, the nighthawk, or as pointed out earlier, another BS, is a better choice.

The damnation and eos would be good ships for different reasons. The damnation is a missile boat and while it's DPS is low it'll all be of the "appropriate" damage type and if you armor tank the bonus to armor gang links will be very nice. The eos on the other hand does more rDPS than any other fleet command ship in the game and it's lack of truly mission-applicable gang link bonuses means you won't feel guilty over fitting non-bonused links. ____________________

Astarte just needs one Highslot more, case closed.

And the minor fact that the astarte doesn't have the "Can use 3 Warfare Link modules simultaneously." role bonus. But yeah, add another high slot and give it that role bonus and I'm sure the astarte would be a great fleet command ship. It'll do a bit more DPS than a 5 gun eos with 6 guns despite the eos' extra drone bandwidth (the whole whopping 25mb...), but there's the minor issue of the lower resistances and subsequently lower tank... Ah well, can't have everything.
Of course if the astarte gets changed to be a real fleet command ship, what'll happen to the eos? ____________________
