Is everyone in the EVE universe single? How about arranging marriages between characters? That way we can make more little capsuleers.
Yeah, I know..dumb idea. But it would add to the social aspect of character interaction.
Think of getting automatic kill rights for the person that snuffs your wife/husband. Lower insurance premiums for the "family plan." Sharing resources without having to join a corp.
so on

Edited by: Tanya Tribble on 23/03/2009 22:49:01 Wow, what a fantastic idea.
Hey, we could really expand on this..
How about they introduce pets that you can dress up and play with, maybe teach them tricks. Wow, another thought.. what if you could also own your own outpost or rent quarters in a station, where you can put quaint furniture and redecorate at will, maybe throw a party for your friends??
Hmm, yes this is what eve should be like...

"No, you're not going out with your friends to PvP! We will spend quality time together in a station this weekend!"
"No, you will not buy a new ship. You can't be so selfish, can you? When was the last time you bought me something nice? And we have that trip to Delve together coming up too..."
"I want to decorate our bar/(other ambulation realestate). The curtains look dull and it's time to make some changes, refresh our lives. This means you'll have to pull overtime NPC'ing ofcourse...."
If we men fall for that in real life, can't see why we would not want to suffer in paid game time as well

Can we have a "Looking For Wife" -section on the forums then or do we have to use the current recruitment board?

To be fair the OP never said hetrosexual marriages. The original idea would suggest otherwise. It's my understanding the people pay to play a science fiction space combat mmorg to escape the realities of everyday life for a few hours a week. Why you'd want to introduce family dynamics to the equation is utterly beyond me. I expect to see it implemented after ambulation |

Alot of things may be implemented after ambulation.
Here come the sexual harassment law suites.

fixed
Edit: on topic, marriage in eve = nono, just look at that couple who got married in r/l. It was announced in eve, before you could blink there alliances were at war nad there was a divorce in the works.
Still wanna be able to buy a an in station condo though....

I like the idea, you can really expand your character playing. If this were strictly a pvp game whereas you wouldn't need aspects of RPing then you wouldnt need professions hell we could just all jump in our ships and be given a high amount of money to start and just blow each other up and to top it off forget skills with no professions you wouldnt need them. But the game ISNT like that so the more "realistic" we can get it the better it is. This would certainly add to the risk of marriage say you have 1 bil isk and marry someone with maybe 1 mil. Obviously separation or divorce would result in half a bil each you lose your isk. Would be lotta gold diggers tho.

I see no benefit from this in the suggested way.
Anything allowing to transfer killrights, make money, save money or share resources purely due to an rp element would just screw up the game, get exploited like crazy and create nothing but chaos.
Since you cannot change a character's name and since most characters don't even have much of that in the first place, not even the name remains as a viable aspect for such a mechanism. If there was clear distinction between first name and family name and if there was a general option to change names, an in-game marriage would be a good reason for players to use such a feature. That would not require special rules, though. Since it is not the case in the first place, it should not be in this.
Eventually, you can just open your bio and put "Wife of XYZ" into it, link to your beloved and let him/her do the same vice-versa. Then join the same corp and get a private hangar to cuddle.

Role play the marriage ceremony, I'm pretty sure its been done before. Get in touch with PIE and ask for a member of the clergy to perform the ceremony. I'm sure they will be more than happy to oblige, maybe for a small donation to the church to seal the deal. Trade something symbolic for the rings, your own frozen corpse might work well. Throw a line in your bio that you are married to eachother, or design a medal and award them to eachother as pseudo rings. Its an open sandbox, you can do anything if you just try and use a bit on imagination.
My friend and I got engaged in-game privately, I offered a piece of morphite as the ring. Might be something they will consider in ambulation if there is enough demand, I wouldn't mind throwing a wedding if possible by any stretch of the imagination. -------------------------------------------------- Everyone is born right handed, only the great over come it. |
