I've seen a "This wormhole will probably last for a few days" on a wh leading into deadly space. *-*^-^*-*^-^*-*^-^*-*^-^*-*^-^*-*^-^*-*^-^*-*^-^*-*^-^*-*^-^ By the way, I am an Ishtar and T2 sentries fan. Fight to make the sentry damage rig work for all drones. |

Pretty certain that "reaching the end of it's natural lifetime" is the last one before it pops - found that out the interesting way with a group in W-space, naturally while someone was getting a covops to make scanning the sigs down faster, it closed... out of 17 sigs in the system, the new WH was the 14th we found, lol.
Based on the wormhole most of us left through, as the 2 of us with scanners waited for everyone else to get out, I can pretty accurately say that when a wormhole hits "reaching the end of it's natural lifetime" it has at least 6 hours left, and at most 12 hours, don't know a more exact number. Basically, for anything other than an epic op, if it's not at the end of it's natural lifetime, you're fine to go in without worrying about time.

My experience is only with Empire wormholes but
"probably wont last another day" means it will expire at the end of the day at 00:00 Eve time which is unnaturally precise but seen 3 wormholes so far close at that exact time, twice with me still inside :)
"nearing the end of its natural lifespan" tells you that the wormhole will be closing within the hour

I have to challenge this, as I have observed a particular wormhole switch from "at least another day" to "probably won't last another day" at approximately 0800 EVE time, and 24 hours later at about the same time it disappeared. Though I did not notice when it changed to "nearing the end of it's natural lifetime" so can't comment on that.
edit- forgot to mention, 0.6 system
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Edited by: Eigof Tahr on 25/03/2009 14:24:31 The wormhole timers are based on when the wormhole was spawned, nothing to do with the system time. at least another day = +24 hours (originally a 48hr hole) wont last another day = 6-24 hours (from a 48, 24, or 16 hour hole) wormhole is nearing the end of its lifetime < 6 hours ------- A rose, by any other name, would be "deadly thorn-bearing assault vegetation." |

So how can we tell when it was spawned

Since the WH I found was on the day Apocrypha went live, it couldn't have even existed 24 hours before that. I don't remember when the server came up, but assuming it was around 1700 game time (and the WH spawned right when the server came up), that would make the WH 35 hours old when it died.

Where did you get this information? Is this from a dev post that I haven't read, or your own personal observation? It sounds reasonable, but I've never seen anything on the number of hours a wormhole could last after spawning.

i have also come to this conclusion, oh and the wormhole number gives information on the lifespan and mass limitations, a good program is the "wormhole thingy" program, its on a different thread in the mission/complex forum
