Have you noticed some of them?
Some parts of the market are flooded with very fast modifications. As they are pretty lucrative it could be players but a modification of price each time under 5 minutes sounds weird to me.

Yes. it's gotten really bad lately.
I have reported some. Some aren't online anymore, some still are, so not sure if CCP is activly looking into it or if the botters simply switch their characters.
Plus it takes quite a bit of resources to identify a botter in the first place: you have to buy/sell from/to them to get the name, add the character to the watchlist, observe their online time, repeat buying/seling to them to confirm it's the same person undercutting you constantly etc.
I have tried to figure out strategies how to beat them, but near impossible. They have buy orders in really low volumes (often buy orders for just a single item), but compensate with near instant new orders in case the buy order is met and with near instant order adjustment. This way they keep a firm grip on the item in question but have almost zero risk to fail for price fluctuations. |

Recently I made a huge investment into a certain T2 item, which I fear to openly admit as some people dont like me because of my open and public honestly.
for the past 4 days iv bin babysitting it, il penny the thing with 5 buy orders and 10 sell orders. This is called a market manipulation
Dont get me wrong, im not trying to charge 6M isk for an item worth 3M isk manufacture cost, this was an item being sold 60% below manufacture cost considering the recent inflation, im just trying to make the price closer to manufacture cost.

Put in a buy order for 1 isk lower than the lowest priced item in the range of their order ...if they auto up the orders they will end up buying the items |

High light own order..
Makes every player more effective at changing and modifying orders. 5 min is the server delay.. so it is most likely just 2-5 potential opponents using mouse wheel and folders setup.
Expect even more of this as players get better at using the new UI features..

I have to disagree. 1 is making my life a total pain and unless he never eats or sleeps (or just happens to always be on line when I randomly log in through out the day and night to check he is on line) then he is a bot. |

not sure 1 would be considered "rampant bots" in order to disagree

Of course many of traders are players!
But some parts of the market seem bots controlled to me. I gave up these items, I just can't compete with.

Working as intended then. Hope they give us back those huge ledgers soon.. Then we can really get into healing markets and making the game so much better.

Some of us babysit out orders. Depending on how much shipping, buying, etc I do on my alts, I usually check my orders every 5-20 minutes. And with Amarr, there are probably a hundred people doing the same thing I am. It's probably not bots (at least most aren't bots), it's probably people babysitting their orders. Doing production isn't just about building things for a profit, but selling them quickly so you can reinvest that money. Babysitting makes that much more effective. |

It's not the bots, it's me ;). A lot of the time I genuinely find myself checking my orders 2-3 times per minute, and since I split my orders up, I'll always have an order which I can modify to 0.01 you .

Well I don't know if its bots...
I've reported 5 in Rens over the past 2 months or so. They are really obvious. Was "One ISKED" by the same person , even when I woke up in the middle of the night for a few minutes and checked. Went on for 2 days. That's the usual sign.
Rens is packed full of them now beginning right before Burn Jita.

Not 48 hours + straight though. I had trouble sleeping for a few weeks, and would check while I was up for a few. Didn't matter, morning noon, or night.
I too bought from them just for Name evidence.
Annoying to do, but it works. CCP will look into it. THEY can easily determine who is one ISKing and who is botting. Why they don't just do it with software instead of making US do the dirty work is beyond me.

I generally modify my orders every day or so; sometimes a few weeks between, and other 2-3 times a day over a short period. Maybe more. I don't .01 ISK you though, I just floor the prices.
Actually, what I don't get is why people try to beat me over 2-3 or maybe even 10-15 items that are generally fast moving. Just let the things sell and follow in behind. Someone like me isn't suddenly going to flood the market on that stock in the next day or two; it's just stuff getting cleared out because it's easier than moving it.
Happens to be a good time to clear out though. Alliance Auction - EVE Rogues: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1215438#post1215438 |

Besides the 1 ISKing there are also the slimes who when , oh, Chiral structures are priced low Sell at 750 or something and some joker comes in with 120,000 units for 595, KILLING the item for weeks.
THAT is market PvP indeed and manipulation by those with too much ISK.
Bad for them in the end and bad for the game though.
Lets all give everything away for pennies at below cost.
EVE Market = Walmart vs Target sometimes.
But this is indeed a bit of a separate issue from the 1-ISKers and MArket bots.
Again I still don't know why they make us do the work to find these Bot Clowns when software can do it, or at least produce a list of 'candidates'.

There is definitely a market bot working the Medium Trimark Armor Pump II rig market in Amarr. It's very fun to crash his order down just above the highest buy order and scoop up his entire sell order to resale.
Bots aren't so bad once you find them and figure out how they work. I did report him as a bot 3 weeks ago, but, well CCP. |

So, on the subjects of market bots and reporting them....
There is a nice feature that allows you to report a bot from the Show Info dialog, which is great, but what about market bots where the person in question is unknown. How does one report these without spending ISKies?
I guess those that update orders can sometimes be fast, but I'm sure they're not able to maintain such consistency when updating multiple orders.
The following person (but I suspect its a bot) is updating 3 orders each 4-5 seconds apart with the same value. This is happening consistently each time I update my order. Here is a screenie.
Whats my recourse?
Thanks. o7 |

I am very new to the game, well, sort of, long story short, friend who no longer plays advised me last year to login and do nothing but training while playing other games. So I trained for a few, eventually left and now I am back and back to training. But I ran across an article about station trading, hub trading, and new player trading so I have been doing a bit of each to see what all the fuss is about. In conclusion, trading is actually fun! I am foregoing all other training at the moment while I train up my trade skills. So to jump in on this post:
1. How can you tell the difference between a bot and player?
2. Due to funds, I typically will buy in small quantities and sell as I get the items, then babysit the items as much as possible while researching out other opportunites.
3. I typically use spreadsheet, but I am finding it not difficult to maintain (work at home project manager with high attention to detail) but I am not really finding a true need to use it so much however. So why do you use spreadsheets and maybe some how's, I'm just not seeing it simply because I am buying low and selling high including babysitting my orders with the .01 changes.
4. I've been in Amarr and Jita hubs thus far. I like Amarr cause there is less babysitting and higher initial profits, but I also like Jita because items move fast, less profit but quick turnover. IMO, quick turnover wins everytime simply because you don't know when a crash will affect an item, you don't know when an Industrialist will plop down his huge inventory, etc. Dodixie and Rens are next on my list.
5. Any tools you can recommend or should I just stick with the buy low sell high and continue to let my wallet do the tracking for me? |
