I understand poddkilling enemies in Corp wars. It costs them money and money, ultimately, determines the victor.
Why, however, would you pod random people you are pirating and stealing from? You don't get anything from their pod the way you do from the ship, so what's the point?

I think for alot of pirates its not just about money, its about combat, and they want a trophy of their kill (ie. the other person's corpse)... sort of like people with raindeer heads hung up on their walls, they have corpses in their hangers lol

Lots of evil ppl strive to build up a rep as an mercyless killer, that way people be more likely to pay. But reputation is everything in mmo... We pop the pods because some of the younger members find the squishy noice funny

As a pirate I hate podding. It hurts the sec status too much, and it destroys the person's can as I have to use SB on my mega when I pod. Can't lock it fast enough. Just trigger the SB when you see that they are down to low structure.
In fact, as a pirate, I also hate blowing up ships. I think it's mean, and it costs too much in time and money to get a new ship and to pay new insurance and new modules. People, when you are scrambled and are being asked for ransom, please pay your captor. I assure you that you will die if you do not pay, and will most likely lose your pod as well.

When supplies get low I have to make some runs to 0.0 to grab some bistot/crokite. Usually I don't run into trouble since I work alone (most people only come looking when there are lots of people in the system making a blob on the map), but every once in a while some pirates will show up to try to expel me from my system and take my hard mined ore. Sometimes they succeed, sometimes they don't.

Its just so sad when people start having to bring Real life into games, but as a former pirate i can tell u, its nothing like that,people are podded for several reasons, mainly if the person does not pay ransom OR simply because we can... some people just like podding, nuff said.

yeah - experienced PVP players start alredy choosing warp location to pod when BS goes to strukture
and there is situations when you want to be poddet - i for example dont want to travel 20+ jumps in egg (its so free to be whitout implants)
ofcorse, there is situations you cant do anything - for example, thees REd brigadiers, Returining from Founttain thot that they are safe in empire
they were so wrong - and they never even knew what Hitted them
PS: the Ezekiel nailo were poddet too, he was returning from founttain in pod and didint bother to use instas in hophib - and he had implants

When you play a game that has a PvP aspect to it, you really gotta take things with a grain of salt. If you want complete safety, then you just need to play something else, I think. I'm going into this fully expecting to lose more than my fair share of battles before I learn enough to start winning.

A lot of times podding happens by accident. I always carry a SB on board with me for getting rid of the nasty drones that people send my way. Those things hurt you know. And the problem is that my SB key is right in the middle of my rails and torp launchers.
I like to end a fight with a bang, so I lob a torp as the final shot. A lot of the times I press both keys at the same time. My fingers are fat as I eat mcdonalds all the time, live in my mom's basement and never get out of the house.

why blow up the ship if you arent going to take the pod as well.
i prefer to shoot targets that can shoot back of course but if i am locked and engaged by another player and i end up destroying their ship -of course i am going to take the pod to. they most likely would have done the same to me if given the oppportunity. im not going to ask them if they want my corpse or not or if they mind if i take theirs.(although i have been asked in local if they can pod me just for my corpse because my avatar looks cute)

Thank you everyone for all the replies. I think I've gotten a lot of good answers here. For the record, since some of you assumed incorrect reasons for my post, I have never been podded by pirates. The few times I have been killed, it was by Curse pilots camping my routes to Stain before I knew how to use Instajumps, back when I was in frigates and cruisers.
My roommate was podded, though, on his fourth day playing the game. So since then I've been wondering what Ashland's motivations were for teaming up 4 on 1 to kill my roommate after shooting down his Rifter.
And now I know. Thanks for the great responses.

The main reason why I pod people is as follows. If i kill someones ship in full range of the sentry gun when i am solo hunting, then the guns will activate and attack me. Whilst this isnt an issue in respect of the time it takes to kill them, pod them and warping out before i go to armour/structure... there is often an occasion where the person i shoot isnt right by me, and I dont have the shields to be able to take sentry fire long enough to move a sentry tanking bs over to the can and loot it without taking structure damage. If I dont pod the person, there is nothing to stop them rushing to the nearest station, getting a noob ship and coming back and trying to get the can, in the time it takes me to either wait for criminal flagging to go, or to go log an alt hauler.
If you pay attention thou, you'll notice that in instances where pirates have hauler/frigate support, they are less likely to pod.
Sometimes sure, I dont like a person I have ganked or our corp has negative standing to them, and i will go for the pod.

Actually, that's to be expected. Most of my victims do become sick with fear before I atomize their pods. It's called anticipation anxiety. But don't worry, the effects usually don't transfer to clones when the pod is destroyed, so it'll pass quickly enough.

A couple points. First of all, the latest research shows that bullies don't beat up people because they lack self esteem. They beat up people because they believe they are better than everyone else, and therefor have a perfect right to do anything they want because they believe themselves to be special.
This fits very well with the mentality of a griefer, just read their posts. Anyone ever hear a griefer that doesn't believe themselves to be the greatest player ever? Anyone ever see the ranking posts on eve professions? Notice how they always put the "carebear" miner at the bottom?
This mentality is also why the only thing that will stop a bully from doing what they want to, to you is to show them that you are even more special by bashing their heads in.
I personally hate violence, but since I was smaller than most of my peers, and also felt I had a right to stand up for myself, I got very good at it. When possible I avoided violence, but when I was unable to, and unwilling to cringe in terror like they wanted I did whatever was necessary to deal with the situation.
So when you are backed into a corner, you need to remember a few things. The first of which is they started it (and you better make sure that this is the situation, you should NEVER start a fight. Fighting is for SELF DEFENSE ONLY) It helps a lot of you have training, I recommend finding the most qualified martial arts instructor in your area and spending whatever it takes to get yourself some good self defense training. The more the better. After that try to avoid any situation that could become hostile.
Since this isn't always possible though, I found that any handy rock worked nicely, as did certain well placed kicks. Even snatched one guy by the balls once. A couple good hard tugs but couldn't quite rip them off. So I kicked him in the nuts a few times while he was down, then kicked him in the head a few times to make sure.
When you do that they usually leave you alone, but sometimes they get some friends to attack you in a pack. When this happens keep rotating so you can get an idea of where the attack is comming from. I'll give you a hint though, It ALWAYS comes from behind. If you can get a hold on that guys arm, yank out on the wrist and bend backwards while placing a hand on his shoulder, if you are fast enough you can dislocate it, or his elbow, before his friends jump in.

A couple points. First of all, the latest research shows that bullies don't beat up people because they lack self esteem. They beat up people because they believe they are better than everyone else, and therefor have a perfect right to do anything they want because they believe themselves to be special.
This fits very well with the mentality of a griefer, just read their posts. Anyone ever hear a griefer that doesn't believe themselves to be the greatest player ever? Anyone ever see the ranking posts on eve professions? Notice how they always put the "carebear" miner at the bottom?
This mentality is also why the only thing that will stop a bully from doing what they want to, to you is to show them that you are even more special by bashing their heads in.
I personally hate violence, but since I was smaller than most of my peers, and also felt I had a right to stand up for myself, I got very good at it. When possible I avoided violence, but when I was unable to, and unwilling to cringe in terror like they wanted I did whatever was necessary to deal with the situation.
So when you are backed into a corner, you need to remember a few things. The first of which is they started it (and you better make sure that this is the situation, you should NEVER start a fight. Fighting is for SELF DEFENSE ONLY) It helps a lot of you have training, I recommend finding the most qualified martial arts instructor in your area and spending whatever it takes to get yourself some good self defense training. The more the better. After that try to avoid any situation that could become hostile.
Since this isn't always possible though, I found that any handy rock worked nicely, as did certain well placed kicks. Even snatched one guy by the balls once. A couple good hard tugs but couldn't quite rip them off. So I kicked him in the nuts a few times while he was down, then kicked him in the head a few times to make sure.
When you do that they usually leave you alone, but sometimes they get some friends to attack you in a pack. When this happens keep rotating so you can get an idea of where the attack is comming from. I'll give you a hint though, It ALWAYS comes from behind. If you can get a hold on that guys arm, yank out on the wrist and bend backwards while placing a hand on his shoulder, if you are fast enough you can dislocate it, or his elbow, before his friends jump in.

I have an Unarmed mining ship.I am in a mining corp. I have been planning to make a pirate charaiter but going to the pirate corps will be hard. As the chance the noob ship will be killed on sight and then pod killed. The problem is that pirates kill anyone except there own corp.
can anyone tell me the best way to contact one?
Also I would not pod kill because only bullys do that. Why kill unarmed miners u could just ask them to eject all there cargo. Instead of killing them.
