I understand poddkilling enemies in Corp wars. It costs them money and money, ultimately, determines the victor.
Why, however, would you pod random people you are pirating and stealing from? You don't get anything from their pod the way you do from the ship, so what's the point?

I think for alot of pirates its not just about money, its about combat, and they want a trophy of their kill (ie. the other person's corpse)... sort of like people with raindeer heads hung up on their walls, they have corpses in their hangers lol

Playerkillers pod for the same reason bullies beat up little kids on the playground. Their lack of self esteem compels them to beat up on others weaker than them to try and make themselves feel bigger.

Lots of evil ppl strive to build up a rep as an mercyless killer, that way people be more likely to pay. But reputation is everything in mmo... We pop the pods because some of the younger members find the squishy noice funny

As a pirate I hate podding. It hurts the sec status too much, and it destroys the person's can as I have to use SB on my mega when I pod. Can't lock it fast enough. Just trigger the SB when you see that they are down to low structure.
In fact, as a pirate, I also hate blowing up ships. I think it's mean, and it costs too much in time and money to get a new ship and to pay new insurance and new modules. People, when you are scrambled and are being asked for ransom, please pay your captor. I assure you that you will die if you do not pay, and will most likely lose your pod as well.

What sim game? The closest thing to a sim game I ever played was Sim City on an old Mac Classic back around 1992.
And you'll note that 99.99999% of podders out there, don't ask for ransom first. But it's really cool when your pod gets that 'negative structure' bug making you invulnerable. People still try to pod you even though you have an invincible 'SUPER POD'. But it's funny when they can't harm you.
