I am Caldari because that race had the best started atributes (for me). I trained all Minmatar ships and tried to specialise in it. Now I see assault frigate, and it has a racial bonus.
Does this mean it's useless for me as a Caldari to fly the assault frigate of Minmatar? Do I have to train Caldari Frigate now or something?
Or, do I get the caldari race bonus added to the Minmatar ships?
thnx for the info.

All that is, is the added up standard frigate bonuses for having frig lvl 5 in whichever frig you needed to train lvl 5 to fly the assault frig.
Hmm that sounds confusing...did you understand?

It's the bonus applied to the racial skill required for the ship - so a 5% racial bonus on an elite frigate is 25% when you can fly it anyway because you already have the skill trained to L5.
It means the skill, not which race your character is.

Aye, I had a moment of confusion before I strapped into my Crow (I was going to go for the Crusader, but saw the Buzzard and fell in love, plus the race bonus thing had me miffed).
But yeah, basically it is the bonus you inherit anyway from training to fly said ship. Coming back to the Crow, it has a race bonus of 25% damage to kinetic missiles i.e. you have Caldari Frigate 5, which adds 5% per level (so in effect this 'race bonus' applies to any Caldari frigate you strap into).
Hope this helps.

You sure about that?
I was under the impression that race "being who you started with" was the only way to get the bonus, not the skill set you trained.
Another person mentioned to me, that they're should be penalties for using off race weapons on ships, "like a tempest using energy weapons would be stupid for sure, but they should be penalized as well"

Haven't we had this exact same thread about 100 times for both interceptors and covert ops?

Trust me - it applies as stated above. I was initially dubious when I read the description, but it is basically clarifying what you would probably already know - the skills you've trained have stacked up and made your Interceptor even more effective.
It would be a major gameplay problem if a player was punished later on in the game based upon the race they chose in the first place. Limiting what people can do in a game, especially an MMO like EVE, would be depriving people of their freedom - which is just, well, wrong

Edited by: HavokTBP on 19/08/2004 22:28:27 No, thats why there's interceptors for each race....
An there should be things like that.
An Ammar born should be a better pilot then a caldari flying an ammar ship. An you know it.

That is all well and good from a Role-Playing dynamic, but this is a game. How on Earth is a new guy supposed to know that a Tech 2 Interceptor works best if he is XXX race? What if he really wants to fly it later on, but can't use it properly because of the race-specific bonus? It puts a strangle-hold on a players freedom to make decisions within the game, and as a result isn't fun - which is what games are all about.
EDIT: And what does the fact that there are Interceptors for different races got to do with anything? There are cruisers for different races too, and they all work equally well - regardless of the pilot's origin. I fly an Interceptor, I have corp-mates who fly Interceptors and the race-bonus is based on the skills you've trained, not what race your avatar is.

No, it's just a shorter way of saying "X% bonus to Y and Z per level of [race] frigate skill". Since you can't have more nor less of the skill it would be sort of pointless of having another description.

You don't get any skill bonus when using the "wrong" weapon type. And I think all ships except indies have at least one weapon bouns. I think that's a penalty in itself.

Yeah an I like apocs because of the bonus to energy weapons, because that's what I use. But I'm caldari. It's weapon class really, but Race bonus, should mean exactly that.
