Another good reason I suppose to host your voice comms in the UK, where such behavior would be covered under the Computer Misuse Act (1990), as the law does not state on the purpose or intent of the unauthorized access, but the act of access itself. So for the TLDR crowds that means hacking UK Vent servers = making internet spaceships serious business. Though with 4,000 members I'm sure you have a British lawyer on the team that has a loophole.
Anyhow.
Two things come to mind about all of this. Everyone seems to lol at space bushido, but effectively military ops in Eve reflect a similar mindset to RL: As ex-Army, I know that:
1. soldiers love good intel. 2. soldiers despise intelligence officers, whether friendly or not.
So yeah, I'm a grunt and happy to despise thieves, because I don't think that the vast majority of any alliance (grunts after pew-pew) think that way. As much as this game allows us to be different people (I'm from RP background myself), I don't think that you are: you steal stuff from other alliances and say "it's just a game", but I suspect if we ever met in the flesh, you would sell me a dodgy car with poor brakes and say "it's just business".
I'll be at FanFest this year and I'll shake hands with you Mittani, but I'll have my other hand on my wallet, and making sure you don't leave me with the bar tab. Internet spaceships or not, I find it hard to believe that you repress this deviousness in real life and channel it all in Eve.
The other thing that comes to mind is the scene in Blackadder the Fourth about spies (8 mins in): yes, to us, you're the filthy hun weasels fighting their dirty underhand war, and to RA, you're the splendid fellows, brave heroes, risking life and limb for Blighty!
Spies are necessary and this was a splendid coup: I'm sure the intel guys and HC in many alliances are reading this with grim admiration, including ours, but yes, of course the grunts are going to think you're a complete bard. I'm sure part of you is QQ about that... but anyhow, well done, good job, but I haven't heard anyone asking for eloquent people to step up and write the surrender notice.
War continues, you hurt our efforts, moved on.
Look at how dumb you are.
Also, Mittens will never go to fanfest.
