I don't know if I'm the only one who doesn't like having to buy a shuttle, warping systems away to have to pick up a new ship, then leaving the shuttle or selling it for much less that I bought it for (usually only about a 6k isk loss, but still). However, what if there was a taxi service, including skills and equipment that would allow players to transport other players around. The higher your skill and better the parts (think cargo expanders), the more people you could fly around (maybe with a maximum of 5 or something). It would open up a whole new are of the economy.

How cool would that be!
Like cargo ships but passenger ships! Change "drone bay" to "Passenger Bay" and you could have a small cargo bay for people who need to take an item with them. also add a channel "TAXI" and all taxi flyers wait for some one to call them!
You charge what ever tariff you like some like, say 100k Per jump and just sit in channel waiting for people, you could even have taxi corps! and when in station the person with taxi selects the person they want to carry right click and select "taxi" from list the player then get a message saying "[NAME] has offered to taxi you to [PLACE] for [COST]" they can accept this or decline this. if you accept you are placed in your pod in there taxi.
This also means you could have rogue taxi's who can take you some where else, if they do you can eject from there taxi and run away!

I'll pay 1,000 isk to be transferred several systems. Better than getting the n00b ship and traveling that way.

Here's how I'd like to see it work: You'd start with a low slot module that allows you to carry 1 passenger and cost you 50m of cargo space. The powergrid, cpu, and training req's would be fairly light allowing newer players in frigates to use a few if they can spare the low slots. A thorax pilot would be able to carry up to 5 in nice speed if it gave up some damage and mounted frigate guns.
To sell someone passage on your ship you'd open a trade-like window in a station. They'd enter the agreed on fee and would be able to bring 30m of secured cargo. When they OK the trade they board your ship. If they have more than 30m of cargo, they'd have to give it to the pilot to go in the ship's cargo hold. (a secure can?)
Once someone boards your ship they're given access to a camera drone and can look around all they want, but can't control anything. The passenger can right click on the ship at any time and have a menu option to disembark. If they disembark in a station their secured cargo goes in their hanger. If they disembark in space (not happy with the ride) they're in a pod and their secured cargo is in a jettison can. If the ship is destroyed during the trip it ejects 2 pods and a seperate can for the passengers secure cargo.
Assuming this didn't cost TOO much bandwidth, (really just a series of gang warps and jumps) you could have a varient of the passenger pod that allowed linking to your controls. The pilot would control ship movement, but could give the passenger access to the low, mid, and hi slots and the ships targeting computer. You could have 2 or 3 man crews in a ship provided you're willing to give up the low slots for them.

ok good idea, noobs could make a nice profit from doing this..and it would be a cool thing to see in the game.
Kukraku....my reply to your post about the 100k per jump...errr i mean come on, you can buy a shuttle for 10k why pay 100k per jump for a taxi service.
1000 isk per 10 jumps would be great for a noob
but you could get better fairs for which security lvl the system is..i.e 1.0 - 1000 isk per 10 jumps.....0.5 - 5k per 10 jumps.......0.0 - 10k per 10 jumps

1,000 isk for 10 jumps for a noob is NOT a good profit.
If you want to be fair, make it 1k for a jump. therfore, its 10k for 10 jumps in secure space. 10 jumps gets you more or less everywhere when buying kit - and you are at least marginally more protected than if you were in a shuttle.
Then change the prices forlower sec. space: IE 0.4, make it 1.5k, 0.3, 2k, 0.2, 2.5k, 0.1, 3k, and 0.0 space make 5k. (in fairness, to have a ship with spare low slots will be a lot slower than a shuttle, and therfore protection will be higher - besdies, how often do you buy things in 0.0 space?)
This ensures profits for new people, larger profits for bigger ships (an EVE standard formulae), and also means you dont clog up your assets menu's and items with pesky shuttles everywhere. |

How about "Shuttle Rental" -- basically set up the market to have a base Sell/Buy price for shuttles in every station that has a market. So you can always buy a shuttle for example at 35K and always sell one for 20K. Every station has them for sale (and PCs can undercut the sales price if they wish) and will always buy them.
Price it high enough that the sales price is fairly above cost for PCs to make, and the buy price is below cost.
Con- it removes one sector of the player driven economy.
Pr0 -- I can get rid of the 15 shuttles I got from missions...!

ok, people could charge what they like. But the taxi it's self would have to be cheap, if it was more than 5 mill then it would take for ever to make money at it! but if you have taxi corps then they would have there "fare prices" set up already. 1k for 10 jumps is not good! 2k per jump in 1.0 > 0.5, 4K per jump in 0.4 > 0.1 and 10k per jump in 0.0. Each taxi costs say 2 mill. now it would take time to make money but when you do your in profit! may be there could be items to make your passenger pay bigger! so more money and taxi could have medium weapons on so you could pay say 5k extra as a protection fee. if the taxi is attacked the pods inside can eject and warp away or stay in the taxi, also if you log off in a taxi you stay in the taxi untill you are ejected in a station or in space!

you run the taxi your self, if it goes wrong you give the money back. I suggest that if you own a taxi join a taxi corp! then you are more belives able and more people will use you. you could even join/ make a taxi channel. it would be called "TAXI" taxi, would be like haulers but yellow! LOL

Maybe while they're in the taxi it could switch into a first person mode and people could walk around and interact with each other. Oh, and maybe something could go wrong with the engines and it would crash land on a planet and people would have to work together and interact to survive but they find a secret pyramid full of ancient but super powerful weapons and they awake a bunch of aliens being held in stasis until the desert planet can regenerate itself but then they want to kill the humans who awoke them and they start kicking butt left and right. I suggest they license the Doom 3 engine to accomplish this.
Yeah right.
I think this is a good example of people planning the details before seeing if the idea even works. Am I really going to let some noob pilot my 20 million skill point character around? There are a good number of lower sec systems which are right near higher sec systems one might have to pass through. In a fast ship with some MWDs you could step up to get a cup of coffee and you sit down to 0.0.
Also, this idea of someone else piloting while you control a camera drone, I feel like I've seen it somewhere before, maybe... Two hours every freakin' time I play Eve? It's called auto-pilot, why wouldn't I just buy my own shuttle and fly myself out there? I'm down for Hertz Rent-A-Shuttle, I'd use that all the time, but I'm not letting anyone tug me around in their cargo hold next to some Homeless People and 237 units of Toxic Waste.

Maybe because you can not fly an interceptor who can bring you anywhere you want in fast speed and even past blockades? Maybe because the interceptortaxi guy is also transporting 50M worth minerals for you? High risk travel, high prices. Low risk, low prices :)
You would order a taxi to be picked up or dropped even while OFFLINE. Ever got annoyed by doing a 50 jumps trip in a pod or shuttle without bookmarks? Well, with a TAXI you coud just order it, go shopping and when you are back, you are already at destination. I mean a Interceptor needs ~1Minute per jump, no matter where you go. A 50 jumps trip still needs ~1hour then. In a Pod you need twice the time and in a shuttle still 50% more. If the service was available offline (like ESCROW transport missions), it would be even better. Logging off in empire, logging in next day in 0.0 stations. I would like it, especially if you need to move all your ships and equipment from one Region to another one.

though a nice idea (and peeps thought that the shuttles were gonna be more like this, just before they were introduced) but I fear that the game is just not structured to make it work.. the game seemed centralised round the structure of one player per ship, and changing that would mean changing the entire structure of the game (codewise, internally) if it was easy to have more then one player per ship then it would already be possible.. train as a pilot , gunner navigator, chef and so on.. (actually having to crew a BS or cruiser for real would be cool...)
Nice idea I just think it would be a real pain to implement..

I'm curious if Interbus will also take freight.
My guess is that it will. It will be interesting having an NPC freight service. If my hunch is correct, sending frieght to/from or through low security systems will be risky.
On a positive note, if you are not worried about time and a bit of extra expense, it will be heavenly to simply pay interbus to haul assorted good around from remote corners of the galaxy.

Well, when I started playing EVE I thought all this was already in the game.
