I am a new player and disagree with pretty much everything the op says. I have only been playing a few weeks and decided to play on impulse and picked up the game when the new boxed edition came out.
Originally by: Ashen Arizona But lets say, okay we've done our 10 newbie missions
First, there are way more than the 10 newbie missions. After the initial 10, there are 3 agents at a couple different stations each offering another 10 missions in different area, military, industry, etc. So pretty much 100 missions all yielding, what I felt was, pretty good cash, skill books, and ships.
Originally by: Ashen Arizona 1) No belts at all
This was true for me at first until I started branching out to other areas. Also I started mining the rocks in my missions which was quite easy to do.
Originally by: Ashen Arizona So the newbie industrialist thinks to himself, quite smartly...oh well its no big deal I'll just train up ships and get a mining barge myself and then I'll be on an even footing here.
I never expected to be on an equal footing with players who have been playing for years. That is simply ridiculous, why would anyone think that? I am just starting building up my mining skills and seeing vasts improvements as my skills get trained up and I can get better ships. I don't make a ton of money but I certainly make enough to be able to afford my ship and the books I need.
Originally by: Ashen Arizona Well that industrial thing sure did suck
Maybe that's because you had unrealistic expectations of being able to immediately be at the top of the food chain the day you enter the game. As for me I am enjoying it.
I can't speak to the pvp stuff or corporation stuff since I haven't done any of that yet.
Originally by: Ashen Arizona the problem is, theres no fun in EvE for the new player
It sounds like there is just no fun for you. As I have stated already I am having a great time.
Originally by: Ashen Arizona In todays EvE, you're not even worth ****ing on if you're on fire unless you've got more than 1 million SP, and you're not valuable and sought after unless you have 10 million SP or more.
I've seen lots of corporations in the recruiting channels looking for newer players.
Originally by: Ashen Arizona The whole universe of EvE basically is telling the new player...."You suck, and you're not needed, or wanted here."
I totally disagree with this. Is EVE complex? Yes. Unmanageable? No. I have learned a ton from talking in the noob channels and from the starting corp channels and the forums. Most are very friendly and willing to answer even the most basic of questions. Not only will people answer them, they will give you the rational behind the reason and not expect you to just blindly follow their opinion.
From an actual brand new player who is supposed to be exactly the person you are defending or speaking about, I think you are completely wrong.
I like that EVE lets me make my own game, lets me decide what I want to do, has me out researching the best ways to accomplish my goals instead of shoving me along a path and following the sheep along the path of least resistance to whatever the devs feel I should be doing with my time.
