Edited by: babyblue on 27/03/2009 22:26:03 Refine loot and sell the minerals or sell the loot? (mission loot).
I'm looking for a general rule of thumb here.....
I have maxed out refining skills btw ;).

as much as I hate to say it, because I'm primarily a miner, refine the loot.
saturate the market even more. I don't want ISK

Depends - generic T1 loot = melt.
Named T1 loot = sell.
Like Arbalest Cruise.

Well I just had something like 6x arbalest heavy launchers and i just converted them to minerals.
There really isnt not much price difference. Usually you might get 10% if you sell instead of refining but thats just too much hassle??

My rule of thumb is usually about 100k; anything worth less I put in a big to-be-refined pile, anything over I put into a big to-be-sold pile. Every few days to a week I go ahead and cash the piles out, refine the crap loot then cart the higher-end loot to a trade hub and sell it all off.

You can easily get 5-10m per launcher. Tacky Lensflares in sigs ftw

Edited by: Maven Deltor on 28/03/2009 01:54:49 I think the bigger question is, is it really worth the extra time to loot/salvage? Just run another mission for more bounties, about the same isk per hour, if you consider the time it takes to sort, consider, and then haul hundreds of individual items. Unless I can loot while I kill, I don't loot.
edit: oops, didn't mean to quote

Rule of thumb: keep meta 4 loot of heavily used items, melt the rest. Sell minerals or build stuff and sell that. Sorting goes quite fast this way because most of the time there's no good loot so it all gets melted.

Please, refine all your Arbalest Heavy Launchers.

I have an alt who does the looting & salvaging while I am shooting. So for me it is a big YES. Btw, I sold 3-4 weeks of loot a few days ago and I made almost half a billion with that. And on average I do 1-3 missions a day. Ahh and I did not even sell the salvage.

OMG, I sold my arbalest heavies a few days ago for 15 million a piece in Jita. I did not even put sell orders on the market. So I guess you lost a lot of money.

I use a modified Akita's Loot Sorting Algorithm. Sort by quantity, descending. Anything in the first 3/4 is melted without looking. By now you know the meta-3 and meta-4 names of loot, so sort the valueable ones out of the remainder and melt the rest.
It may not be perfect but it certainly saves a huge amount of time you can use to get more ISK.

Unless you need cash/minerals NOW, wait until you have an absolutely huge stack of loot (several months at least) and THEN sort through it. Saves yourself a lot of time.
If you have more immediate needs, then the whole sort by stack size, look at small stacks thing works.
