Now that the two biggest powerblocks called all their allies to the fight, today will be a pretty big lagfest around 49- My question is partly to the devs, is there a chance that we will witness the biggest battle, with the most participants today in the history of mmorpgs? In the history of multiplayer games? Generally are there any numbers, facts about that? That would be a pretty big advertising force. Did CCP prepare for it in any way? Psychologically, looking at how this many people react, how they are led, being FCed, would be very interesting too. Generally EVE has a potential for LOTS of experiments about many people working together. Technically? Were there any examples of so many participants in one battle before? If the battle will not be as big as its expected now, then my question is generally about the big eve fights. Do you CCP guys keep any logs about these? I thought about using these awesome, really one of a kind aspects of eve for my dissertation, i wonder why noone (or at least i didnt find it) thought about that yet. Anyway, im recommending all carebears or those who cannot be there, to keep an eye on this because you might hear about this day again. Also this is NOT CAOD PLEASE! Im expectiing constructive posts, no flaming and i dont care about your alliance tag in this topic so act accordingly!

I would certainly enjoy thinking about it. I wonder if fleets that big will really be able to engage without debilitating lag, even with CCP notified about the potential fleet engagement. (Admitted, they faced a node death or a few. Edit: Also I'm not sure if they all even made it to the system.) Also, when the node running the game lags, better computers won't help, since it's the server that lags.

Was amongst the first 5 who logged into system after downtime and didnt log out since then. No desync, even at top local count we had manageable module lag with lots of people on grid and brackets on. Only time i noticed big lag spikes was when people were bridging in. Local started to drop now slowly, really amazing how CCP managed to reinforce the system node. If only every system and battle would be like this. So can we know if you did any special reinforcements?

Well if you had a brain you would know that in massive battles like this, it is usually a slide-slow and not a massive fight that you'd see in a Hollywood movie. Also, the players routinely fraps large fights of this nature and post them on My EVE for the general population to watch. As for tactics, there is not that much going on when numbers reach 1500+, a fight will break out somewhere in system (usually on a gate or POS) and then everyone and their mom (literally) will warp to the fight and then it is usually sort A-Z and take down the bad guys. You might get a small ISD story about the battle, but as for the things you are asking for, you need to actually pick a side, get a ship and undock and join in the fighting, because most 0.0 entities don't give a ** about what the average joe mission running carebear thinks about anything. They don't want every little detail shouted to every player and enemy on the cluster. I know this is not an official CCP log, but when I started a "large" fleet fight involved several hundred pilots. Through out all of EVE's history, people have been piling more and more pilots into fleet fights until the servers gave out. IIRC, fleet fights were around 100v100 when I started. Everytime CCP upgraded the server, this number increased bit by bit. IE, it went from 100v100 to 300v300 to 500v500, etc etc until now which is close to 1000v1000. As for your comments about CCP Atropos, most of us believe that Atropos did nothing wrong. All Atropos said was "np" in reply to your sarcastic comment. Most of us forum goers encourage CCP to not act like they have a stick shoved up their rear when they post on the forums. We want them to be casual, unfiltered and human. We want them to portray themselves, not a business image that CCP wants projected. As such, when a dev makes a sarcastic response to a sarcastic statement, most of us approve. I would advise that you adhere to the golden rule - do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
