I'm on a mission where I need to salvage a black box from a wreck when a pirate turns up. I shoot the pirate and, mistakenly, try and salvage his ship, which I can't do with the civilian salvager!
I got frustrated so bookmarked the pirate wreck and turned off.
Next day I've come back, realising what I actually have to salvage, but no matter where I look the wreck is nowhere :o(
I've tried going to the pirate wrck location, the agent mission location he specifies (which is deadspace!) but I can't find it anywhere :o(
Anyone know how I can find this damn ship?

After downtime the deadspace complex should reset (I assume you figured out you need to salvage the spawned cargo and not the destroyed ship).
If it doesn't, petition (F12) and the GMs should be willing to help. (I've gotten great service from them, if you count "The mission isn't bugged but I've reset it" as great service)

GMs usually wont reset missions, unless they're noob missions.

That is one of the starter missions.
To the OP: when you killed the pirate the mission received the signal "objective completed" even if in reality you don't have retrieved the mission objective. As the mission objective was reached at downtime the mission container was removed (normally a unfinished mission respawn completely with all the NPC and items).
Having the "objective completed" message when you kill the target and not when you bring the items in is a system to avoid faming of missions with lucrative targets, but sometime it misfire like in this situation.
You can petition a GM to get the mission reset.

Thank you so very much, I petitioned and almost immediately the GM reset the mission to enable me to complete it.
Thank you to all.
