Really who gives a **** about RP?
for example I am Amarrian. Am I supposed to blow up Gallente and Minmatar then let survive Caldari and Amarr? Obviously very little to no one will act like this.
what if I meet a new friend and he happens to be Minmatar? should I stop talking to him?
People fly every race ships, travel to all the systems no matter what sov is, and interact with everyone else. Activities are also the same for everyone (pvp, industry, trading...)
Now attributes are not a difference either.
And finally ask around local chat "where are u from guys" 99% of players will answer their real life location. I mean too little will say "Hello I am from Todaki and was born in 20745". lmao.
Seriously who role plays? Is it worth, or funny?

People take enjoyment from the game in a lot of different ways, RP is one of them.
Some people think mining is a crap way to play the game, some thing PvP is, some thing Production is, some think RP is, some think Research is, some think Exploration is.
It's a matter of personal preference

Actually you RP everytime you load up the game, your not really a ebil pirate/trader/miner whatever your flavor is. Now i assume you actually ment to spout some BS about people who RP to the extent that they play their chars as if they really were in a pod in New Eden, there are plenty of them and plenty of others who RP to a lesser extent as mentioned above.

In EVE, RP doesn't mean adhering solidly to racial alignments (which contradicts the whole 'capsuleers forming their own empires' thing), it just means playing the game.
Typing and emoting in ye olde english in other games is just to make up for the dire lack of player interaction, a problem not found in EVE. -

Role playing is hard because EVE makes it easy to be friendly to everyone and be enemies with everyone.
There is more of a possibility that a Gallente will kill another Gallente or Caldari another Caldari in low-sec, than of the expected Gallente/Caldari hostilities.
Eve is all about greed, not factions or war. There is no penalty for killing your own, and isk making ventures are plentiful with the "enemy."
If RP is to really have some meat in it, these blurred boundaries will have to be clearly defined.

RP is what you make of it, really.
And by the way (regarding some of the OP's points) choice of your RP path is fairly independant of birth race, racial ship type, etc. While I play a Matari freedom fighter, I rarely fly Matari ships. And my fellow freedom fighters include members of all races, including heretical Amarrians who have turned their backs on the race they were brought up amongst baack when they were merely mortal.
For me, the biggest draw of the RP lifestyle in EVE is that I find it far more interesting and satisfying to hunt down targets because they contributed to slavery than to roam around looking for non-blue boxes to shoot, then type 'gf' after ganking them.
Views on the matter vary.

Take a look at the roleplaying channel. Crickets make the largest sound.
The RP channels are usually clear of RP because of ISK spammers and people like the OP stopping by to ruin it for everyone. RPers mostly stick to RPing in places jackasses like the OP can't get to, IGS, corp cat etc.
And remember, this isn't WoW or Everquest. Most RP corps are also PvP corps and can whoop your ass. Don't think you can fly up to a UK fleet or a CVA fleet, start calling them sissy RPers and get away with your ship intact. |

Wait I thought RP was Research and Production.
wtf
No wonder I never saw Ushra'Khan do mining ops.
kidding kidding
If you're Amarrian and make a Minmatar friend, no you don't stop talking to them. You enslave them, they become Ammatar and become your wingman.
By the way you could have avoided typing out that whole paragraph. Just say "LOLRP" like everyone else does.

When was this? I dont even see isk spammers in there. I like talking to myself in there. RP with myself. Oh and btw calling this a RPG just because your a pilot of a startship is weak. Its like saying counter strike is an RPG because im pretending to be a counter terrorist. Silly.
You are talking about select corps. 90+% of pod pilots could care less about their charecter backround. Also, yes yes I can call them sissys in highsec :)

Capsuleers aren't part of their factions (unless they're in a militia). We're free to associate with whoever we want. If "role-playing" to you is just acting like you don't like <insert_enemy_here>, then you don't understand role-playing at all.

If you like it, do it. If you think it's silly, don't do it. Simple as that.
It's a bit of a unique situation in EVE, with the single-world server. No dedicated separate shard for the RP'ers, unlike most other mmorpgs. That means an encounter of some kind with some of those crazy make-believe-spaceship-pilots, at some point. _______ Liberating Vegas '09! |

The only thing I would wish this game would do to help RPers and enhance imersion is a naming policy and random name generation if you have no idea how to name your toon.
No matter how I might try to immmerse myself in this universe, the moment I see a felow capsuleer named lol23, pawnt4567, slfhlksh or podmepls etc I just wince.
OP's name fits in the same category.

Whenever you refer to what your character is doing by saying "I" you are role playing. For example, when you say "I'm going to grab some drones and undock in my Dominix" you are effectively assuming the role of a Dominix pilot. It is just that in EVE you're rping people living in future which is very easy to do and you can just act and speak naturally, throwing EVE lingo in here and there.

Actually those blurred boundaries are where the interest should lie... Why should every Amarrian's loyalty be solely to their god? The Corporations and Alliances are vastly more important to 99.9% of players and by extension their characters - who are more interested in ISK and glory.

It works well enough for me.

PIE only fly Amarrian ships.

Attribute repsecs were a big mistake in my opinion, and the lack of variety between bloodlines destroys a lot of the game's flavour in my view.

The great thing is you can roleplay and still act normal. No need to have a stupid Scottish accent (not saying the Scottish are stupid, just the bad attempts people make at accents) or talk with "thee"s and "thou"s.
Of course if you saw the 2008 Fanfest video, the CVA guy got into character for that presentation. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Which mind you, was pure awesome.
But yeah, I RP a bit. But by the same token I do alot of stuff that I ignore my RP side and just play the because I enjoy it. RP is just a bit of spice added to the mix to make the winsauce of eve a tiny bit more tasty.
Unless you don't like RP.

Eve is great for roleplaying. You can go around scamming people and smacktalking in local about the other guy's corp and still be roleplaying.
The only thing that is really required to roleplay in eve is to not talk about real life and to remember you're in a spaceship.

On Topic:
As has been said, RP is all about what you make of it. EVE is a very simple game to Roleplay in because almost everything your character does can be explained in-character, something very few other games can boast with.
Now, if you consider RP to be "lol, i haet ur race, so i pod u, k?", I feel sorry to my soul (a soul I have irrevocably stained by writing that mockery of a sentence). RP is about understanding the motivations of your character and then entering that mindset to apply it on social interactions. -----
