im using a hyperion for missions and am about to step out for lv 4s, i cant seem to get my tank above 87% resists, my current set up is as follows:
1 large t2 rep 5 t2 hardeners (dependent upon enemy) 1 thermal pump 1 rig 1 kinetic pump 1 rig 1 explosive pump 1 rig
i have tried all sorts of damage controls on top of the hardeners but they always peak out at 87%, my current kin therm em and exp compensation skills are all at lv 3 besides training these higher does anyone know how to get the resists to break the 90% mark? and without the uber expensive t2 rigs if possible?

training those skills won't help if you're using active hardeners. If you want resistance against all types of damage train those skills to 4 and fit two t2 energized adaptive nano membranes. Don't fit armor resistance rigs for missions, fit at least 2 auxiliary nano pumps. Also, consider fitting a damage control II since it gives 15% resistance to all without getting a stacking penalty.
Looks like you need to learn more about tanking and stacking mechanics.

Bad tanking setup is the problem.
Assuming modest skills and Galle BS 4 try this against Serp/Guri:
T2 Large Rep Damage Control 2 EANM 2 2x T2 Hardners 1x Damage Mod
Rigs: 2x Cap Control 1x Nanobot Accel
This gives you over 500DPS tanked against Guri/Serp and you just swap out the hardners as needed per mission.
You can drop the DC for a second damage mod and still be i n the mid to uppper 400 range which is fine for L4's if you manage your agro.
If you really want to up your tanking you could also spring for an Amarr Navy Rep. Galle is just as good as T2, but easier fitting.

For an ubeatable mission tank, go with dual large reps. One hardener for each damage type dealt, so for Serpentis, use a thermal + kinetic + EANM (buffs both). This set up perma runs without the guns going, and lasts for 10 minutes with them on, plenty of time to kill everything in the mission.

cool thanks guys some good input, i shall give each one a go, i can already see the benifit of the EANM over the hardeners thanks again

again, eanm's are good only if you expect multiple damage types. In situations where you know it'll be just therm/kinetic or something go with the specific hardeners.

For missions i would really use active hardeners tbh, just use Eve-survival website to find out what damage to tank against and put 2 of each hardeners for that, also you want a dual LAR tank TBH and you will be sailing through missions. ---------------------- Zomg Penguin |

One other thing to think about is managing your aggro properly so that you don't cause the entire room to agress you at once.

Amarr navy repper+2 CCC+1 ANP + three active hardeners + 2 magstabs, that's in the 5-700 defense for Serps/Gurista/Sansha/Blood raiders. Angels might be a problem with that, but Angels are going to be a problem in a Hyperion anyway. Mercs/drones, well you can take a magstab off & add an EANM or a DCU or whichever thing you prefer.

This.
Most of the time you won't need to try to omni-tank for mercs/drones and angel. If you stick to a 2 active hardener per primary damage type rule you should be fine.
Example: mercs - 50% kin/30% therm, bring 2x kin, 2x therm drones - 70% expl/20% kin, bring 2x expl, 2x kin angel - 70% expl/20% kin, bring 2x expl, 2x kin
Minmatar are kind of an exception to this rule. Missions like Enemies Abound 5 can kick your butt if you're not properly tanked for them, so pay attention to the details when it says they do an abnormally large amount of EM in a certain wave and don't forget to bring some protection for it.

if youve got 87% resists, a LAR, and your cap stable in a hype, I dont see how you need to warp out of a mission really.
I need 3 hardeners and a LAR on my pally, and that usually works fine... 4 maybe, 5, never.
Unless your using the wrong hardeners for the mission...

Ok, this is really confusing me. If all your resists are at 87% then we are talking about... one rep is 800 damage ever 11.25(skilled) seconds you need at least BS 3 for the hyperion so that increases the rep to 980 every 11.25 seconds. 980/11.25 = 87.11 now divide by 0.13 "which is (100-87)/100" this puts you at a 670dps omnitank
You should easily be able to do any L4 with this.

Unless doing more damage, completing missions faster and actually having to pilot your ship means anything to you.
I've found with just about any mission running ship, 1x LAR and 3x Hardeners with about 3-5 minutes of cap for rep/everything else will tank them all, just focus on cranking out that DPS. Make sure to only fit specific resists for the NPCs you are facing, as well as watching your aggro. *** Currently Playing: Trolls from Outer Space Current Equipment: VISAcard chain mail, +2 Amulet of Epic Whine, Self Banstick +2 WTB: +666 E-peen killboard stats |

honestly i cant understand how you have problems with 87% resitance( if its the right reistance type). I use a mega with much less tanking and have not any problem.
anyway, since you have some problems i can point you something:
1) hyperion have repair amount per bs skill level. if you Gallente bs at lev 3 raise it at least to 4 . Its +5% tanking. Also train it to 5 its quite suggested.
2) your rigs will be stack penalized by hardeners.. thats not good even not considering that some of them will be unusefull versus some rats. Its much better pump your repairing amount instead.
So rigs: 2x aux nano pump, 1x CCC (just to have more cap)
3) lows for rats that deal 2 types of damage should be ( example for gurista/serpentis): 1x LAR, 2x kin, 2x therm, damage mod/DC2/CPR ( depending if you need more cap or damage or tank) obviously change resist type if you face other sort of rats.
4) Against rats that deal more than 2 types of damage ( angels, zazzma..<howtheyhellarecalled>,mercs and more ) its better the below setup: 1x LAR, 1x explo, 1x kin, 1x therm, 1x eanm2*, 1x DC2
*) note: this is the only module affected by armor compensation skills
5) remember: LAR and hardeners are good only if you have cap to use it, so you should have enough cap rec 2 in medium slots to sustain your LAR for enough time ( permarun is not mandatory). If using your LAR you run out of cap the problem probably is not the resist but the cap recharge, Imho the best overall solution for hype is 4x Cap rec2, 1x "track comp+track script" , but can be optimized depending on mission.

This is as close as you can get to 87+ across the board without going to ridiculous extremes like implants, or gank bonuses / warfare links...
At max skill it will give you EM 85.8 Kin 89.5 The 89.5 Ex 87% !!! SO CLOSE!
I fitted medium rainbows because they track better and look pretty. Lots of webs to stop your enemies DEAD and a bunch of miner drones so you can mine the valuable rocks that are in missions too.
There's nothing this setup cannot tank or pwn.

You plan on mining off the hulls while hitting them with non-bonused medium lasers?
This is my setup so far:
Highs: 7x 425mm Railgun II (fitted with Anti-matter, Uranium or Lead) [Empty slot] (Drone Augementor if you wish)
Mediums: 1x Target Painter II 1x Sensor Booster II + Scan Resolution Script (Targeting range script can allow longer range ammo, as mentioned before) 3x Cap Recharger II
Lows: 2x Magnetic Stabilizers II 1x LAR II 3x Rat Specific Hardeners IIs
Rigs: 3x Capacitor Control Circuit I
I am assuming you're going up against Serptentis or Guristas, thus I would fit 2x Armor Kinetic Hardeners and 1 x Armor Thermic Hardener. However, I'm not sure what you're trying to tank against. If you're going up against Angels, then my low slot fitting would suffer. _______________
